Of all of the new series that have premiered in 2019, which ones would you say have had the most divisive and most unanimous general consensuses on quality? I feel like these newest 2 have had pretty mixed reactions everywhere I'm looking, with many people being on the far sides of the spectrum for both.
Oh, duh, just thought of a series with a clear consensus.

Spy x Family.

It's been pretty universally adored from the beginning. Funny that Shueisha's 2019 debut with the biggest positive consensus isn't even in the main magazine.

Also a little embarassing that it didn't occur to me sooner... given my avatar...

It begs the question whether the series would be that successful in the main magazine with heavy competition, it is generally unpredictable what's going to happen. I've been away for so long that I don't know the consensus here, but I'm sure Act-Age received praise and I was afraid that it would not receive the appreciation it deserved once it started. Chainsaw-man, on the other hand, made me think how something so grotesque would survive, but here we are.
Spy x Family is great, but where would you put it on the Jump lineup?

Almost every series is divisive, so it's hard to tell, but consensus would be Spy x Family for unanimous love and Kamio You for unanimous hate (there was a time here where everyone thought the series was pretty boring and was going to fail, with few exceptions).

I think people still think Yui Kamio is trash. It's genre shift has just made it even more incoherent, it has little in the way of story, and the whole experience is just a drag to sit through. It's honestly shocking it's gone this long without being canceled TBH.

Mitama and Yozukura are uninteresting for me.
I really need 10 chapters of HxH to survive, But fortunately, chainsaw man is there.

100% agree with this. The plot for each chapter was already pretty choppy, but at least it didn't seem like it was taking itself too seriously. Now, I just straight-up have no clue what's going on, and the serious/horror turn hasn't exactly been too well-done in my opinion. Each chapter just seems like it has a very strange tone to it. I largely think Yui Kamio has the benefit of the author's veteran status plus a handful of bombs from rookie/non-famous authors to squeak by. I'd guess it'll last about as long as Hungry Marie did.

Maybe they'll clear out a larger portion of failing newbies and have a 3-4 new series serialization round around the first issue for 2020.

I couldn't agree more. At this point feels better just pass by the pages and apreciate Shiibashi art than actually try to read what the characters are saying.

Honestly it feels like every new series this year has been pretty divisive.

The closest thing I've seen to a consensus regarding a 2019 series is "Chainsaw Man is underrated," and I wasn't part of the community when it debuted so I don't know if that has always been the case.

If I had to give a "Most Divisive" award to a single 2019 manga though, it might just have to be Double Taisei. People either love it with a passion or they really dislike it, and I've seen very few takes land in the middle.
I think the reception of the second chapter of yozakura was better than the reception of the first chapter.

What's crazy for me though is that even though I totally agree with what you're saying, given the recent serializations, I think Yui Kamio still ends up on the upper half of the ones still going on for me. I just couldn't get into Beast Children, Tokyo Shinobi Squad, or Samurai 8. I like Yozakura and I liked Saiyuki; Double Taisei has been an absolute roller coaster but I've currently liked the last few chapters since they introduced these side characters, Yui Kamio is another roller coaster but I'm currently not loving the serious horror turn and abandonment of ecchi comedy; Mitama is neutral; and the 3 I first mentioned I dropped after 3 chapters.

About Mitama Secureity, is pretty clear that it's a manga aimed more for kids, the humor and how everything was "predictable" make it very obvious, so i will not act like the manga is supposed to cater for me, but said that it was quite a "meh" start, not terrible, some moments were cool but overall it wasn't really funny, it can get better with the next chapters when the mangaka starts to get crazier.

I didn't comment about Yozakura-san and didn't read the 2nd chapter yet but i will say was one of the best starts this year, better than what i was expecting, the author got a LOT better since Poro and i'm happy that he didn't tried to serialize the one shot from GFC, that would never work as a full series on Jump, but this has a chance and if this first chapter gets in the bottom, i will officially lose faith on Japanese readers for the rest of the year.

I just hope the main girl emotes a little more. The series could be a bit more entertaining if it didn't seem like it was just some random dude flipping out and crying while a girl stares at him with a mildly shocked, dead serious face. Honestly, the spirits and the girl's comments about them were probably the funnies parts for me. You're probably right about the target age though since this definitely felt like a replacement for Jimoto ga Japan, even with the less-refined artstyle.

Like it or not, it is impossible to deny that we are dependent on the goodwill of the Japanese.
After all, jump manga popularity polls are made by letters, not open to the internet, otherwise there would be many series that would not be canceled.

Speaking of the new series (Mitama and yozakura), I liked both, I think this lot is much better than the previous one, only losing to chainsaw man.

Gonna give some thoughts on the May serializations because I can:

Honestly, I feel like Samurai 8 has been kinda...forgotten, I guess? Since the series dropped in TOC it has just kinda faded in terms of discussion. Either way, even though I can say it's gotten "better", it still feels...underwhelming, I guess? Like, no matter what Kishi does, it feels like it's always below the standard of the other series.

Double Taisei is a hilarious train-wreck. I have no idea what Fukuda was thinking at any point, but goddamn is it baffling to watch in action.

Beast Children was a complete disappointment IMO. I and I think a lot of other people were hoping it could be the new Jump sports hit, only for it to instead be a generic as hell spoken that copied large parts of Haikyu, along with shaky art and weak pacing. Real shame.

Tokyo Shinobi Squad is...I honestly don't know. It's not especially terrible past the VERY questionable backstory, but it's become utterly directionless. I get that the author wanted to do something along the lines of Kekkei Sensen, but that doesn't really work in Jump, and the scenarios aren't interesting in spite of trying to include social elements.

That's a good point but...why? Why would you try getting a manga clearly aimed at a younger audience off the ground when survey data shows that there's likely not a strong enough readership there for it to compete? After I'm From Japan had to move to Saikyo (where it's in a far more appropriate position), you'd think Jump would've learnt their lesson.

Uh...there is a digital version of the poll. It's with the digital version of Jump. You know, the one a large amount of the youth readers read from.

That sums up Double Taisei pretty well. I had very little idea what was going on with how drastically the author kept shaking up the story each chapter for like the first 4 or so chapters. I get authors wanted to keep people on their toes, but it's a bit hard to call something a plot twist when the plot basically hadn't been established yet in the first place. However, it did somehow manage to keep my interest up through now, and has actually had multiple enjoyable chapters in a row. While I haven't read much of that shogi series by the Noah's Notes author, this at least feels more alive than Momiji did.

In fact, if I am not mistaken, this has been commented several pages ago.

WSJ always tries to attract new young audience, because they really need this audience to survive in the long term.

Even if the manga is a flop and a short series, it wouldn't be a real failure for the magazine if this still attract certain amount of younger readers.

Soooo these sorts of series are basically designed as sacrifices of sorts? Is that why they're placed at the back?

Double Taisei: While I defended earlier chapters, I dropped it some chapters ago since the story was going nowhere. Just skimmed through the chapter and WTF is going on?
Mitama: I liked the first chapter. On the first 10 pages or so I was just like "WTF is going on here? This is uninteresting" but when Mitama appears things got funny quickly. Some things like the gun were a bit over the top, but this can be adjusted in the next chapters.
Yozakura: I felt bored while reading, may drop it soon.

All in all the new series seems like axe fodder to me. If things continue like this we may see Yui Kamio passing the 50 chapters mark.

The younger demographic is still a large enough portion of total overall readership that it shouldn't be completely ignored. What they're probably looking for is a series that's popular with both young kids while still attracting a good deal of older-reader support. I'd imagine a series like Spy x Family probably having a larger young-reader support as well as older readership

What's the series in the lower left corner? I feel as though I've seen it somewhere before.

To sum up Double Taisei's recent chapters: an up-and-coming shogi prodigy plays shogi against a barrage of borderline mentally unstable up-and-coming shogi prodigies all while pursue the ultimate goal of overtaking his ultimate rival; "himself."
