Sorry but no, I stand for what I said, whether the epilogue as a whole was good, bad, or average it barely did Soma any favors. Sumo deserved the GIGA treatment over Soma any day of the week
By that logic what favor would do for Zumou too? showing a marriage? Isn't pretty clear that it was Kawada choice not doing epilogues on GIGA or even a special chapter on Plus? They didn't even started anything weeks after the manga ended in the magazine, if Kawada wanted to do why the editors wouldn't allow him to publish some epilogue on GIGA or Plus when even Higuma had one? You're just being biased saying that when in the end of the day Souma has more value for Shueisha over Zumou at any day of the week, since you know, Souma is a actual lucrative franchise, and this is from someone who loves Zumou, but this talk about "X deserves more than Y because reasons" is just bullshit.

Calm down, man. I just said that it was very enjoyable to me as a Shokugeki fan who was disappointed by how it ended. If you don't agree, that's fine. As for why it received such treatment instead Hinomaru Zumou, it is simple: Shokugeki no Soma was a solid series until the end despite its final decay, produced many anime seasons and good popularity in the occident making the authors to come to events in the US and probably in some other places. Hinomaru Zumou was never such marketable series.

But I'm actually surprised that I enjoyed the original DB period that much. Even more than the "Z" one. Does anyone agree with me? At least from what I see, most people enjoy Dragon Ball more after the Saiyans are introduced.
King Piccollo/Piccollo Jr. is my favorite arc of the series, The first search for the Dragon Balls is so much fun and all Tenkaichi Budokai are super fun. The only thing I didn't really love was Red Ribbon, I thought it was kinda stale in some parts and I wished we got a little bit more Launch.
I have the same sentiment. It applies to Naruto too. I remember being thrilled by the tactical aspects and small team fights of early Naruto, namely the chuunin exam. It gradually lost its appeal to me when the story evolved (or devolved) into massive scale power level, earth-smashing battles, and mass resurrection like nobody's business.

I’ve been meaning to ask this...

...but do you think Demon Slayer will follow in HeroAca’s steps and gain a foothold in the West? I’ve been seeing quite a bit of buzz about it here ever since Episode 19, and it hasn’t stopped. I expected to be one of the most popular anime in the seasons it ran in, but not this popular.

Perhaps in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t much and eventually the hype will fade for a bit as Ufotable makes another season. But seriously, I’m starting to think Demon Slayer could be the biggest new thing since HeroAca.
Very unlikely. Kimetsu is simply not set up for the long run like HeroAca or Black Clover. It definitely doesn't have HeroAca's staying power. The hype will die down once the anime ends, and the manga itself probably won't reach 30 volumes at max.

He's right tho, Soma isn't deserving of those extra chapters. The series has been on a big downward trajectory in sales & the series came from a 3 year long saga prior to the final arc. The final arc did a bunch of rushing as well. What good popularity did it have when sales have been a downward trajectory since volume 14 despite getting multiple anime seasons? The manga currently sells lower than it did pre-anime, that's not really good popularity.

HZ may not marketable but it's still very well received and clearly the editorial department saw something special in it which allowed it to run for so long while being a 30k seller. Anyway my prayers is that it gets some sort of epilogue in the final volume.

At least Gintama getting the extra chapters was well deserved, it's an incredible franchise with a successful anime & live action under its belt. The manga sold well for what it is too. Soma on the other hand, not so much.

Guys, let's try to communicate with each other with a little less snarkiness, please.

There's no reason to take all of this so seriously/personally.

One thing is having a personal opinion about certain series, i really dont care about it, but other thing is let this personal opinion form a entire biased opinion like that, it's annoying as fuck, Souma had a very good and popular life on Shonen Jump, a cooking manga having 7+ years of serialization, multiple anime seasons and selling at least 200k per volume, try to twist this as much as you want, but will never change the fact that Shokugeki no Souma is/was a quite popular franchise and will be always part of Shonen Jump history, this "deserve" thing is like i said, bullshit, let's try use arguments instead of 100% biased opinion when talking about stuff like this please.

I never denied it was popular though. What I denied that its "good popularity" (Im guessing he meant that the popularity was impressive and/or to justify an extended ending). I dont see how popularity was impressive when it spent more than half its lifetime in a downward trajectory, despite its anime seasons.

Explain then why, during that "downward trend", it got in the Top 10?

The cutoff gets lower each year, especially in 2017

SnS was at the bottom of the list for franchise sales in 2016 and didnt appear in 2017/2018. That too, the cutoff got progressively lower with each year

I don't know if I'm allowed to comment old Jump series here, but I'm currently reading Dragon Ball. All I knew about the manga was from the few DBZ episodes I watched it as a kid, but I wasn't crazy on them or anything (from the popular battle-shonen in Brazil at the time, I was more interested in Saint Seiya) and as I aged I started to have some kind of misguided vision of the series, thinking it was just a over-the-top battle manga and skipped watching/reading it.
Then I started it last week and.... oh boy, I really liked it. REALLY.
But I'm actually surprised that I enjoyed the original DB period that much. Even more than the "Z" one. Does anyone agree with me? At least from what I see, most people enjoy Dragon Ball more after the Saiyans are introduced.

I’d only seen DBZ and Super, but I’ve been reading it slowly myself in colour, and it’s pretty incredible. I can barely think of any series that handles it’s main cast so well. They all get so much screen time and are often recurring. Not many of them are gimmick characters either, like in the case of many series with large casts (Fairy Tail, Black Clover).

Goku’s innocence, nonchalance, and lack of understanding of society makes for some hilarious comedy too. And it still manages to pull off incredible, and often hilarious fights as well. Art is simple, yet quirky and expressive, and it makes the universe believable and alive.

Coming out of DBZ or Super which pretty much ignore most of the cast, and spend their whole time focusing on hair, it’s hard to imagine they were written by the same person. Especially so if you skipped the original like myself and many have, you probably never considered Dragon Ball a series with impressive writing. And even more impressive is that most of it holds up incredibly well today, just showing how far ahead of its time it was. I guess that’s why it didn’t perform particularly well until a few volumes in (that fake out ending was hilarious though). There’s so much all this cancel fodder could learn from looking more closely at OG DB.

Man, you really have some blind hate with Souma, everything you say could be used with so many big hits in order to spin in a negative narrative, picking a detailed sales chart to say "look, since this volume the manga doesn't sell the same thing" doesn't mean anything, you can apply this to virtually every popular franchise and claim that it's nothing impressive, how Souma didn't have a good popularity? because some people on internet complain about? the manga had a very healthy serialization for basically 30 volumes like everybody can see in your chart until Tsukuda made all the mistakes and despite all the drop in popularity the manga still managed to outsell more than half of the magazine and get another anime season.

Going off-subject (partially because I'm getting sick of it), but I'm getting the feeling Yuuna might end soon. The manga has more or less hit a brick wall in terms of things to do both in terms of story and ecchi, and the sales have been decreasing for a while now. Wouldn't be surprised if the manga spent the next four chapters having some fun ecchi stuff, then go out with a final volume arc for a neat 21 volume run.

I could be wrong (Yuuna has had multiple fakeout endings at this point), though, but that's something I've been thinking may be the case.

I mean, the difference is that Dragon Ball was, at the start, just meant to be a fun, whimsical adventure story. It was basically Dr Slump with a plot, which was actually the entire reason it was made.

September to next year February (4th year anniversary) is 5 months, so around 20~23 chapters. I could see that happening.

Ok then... Show me these many big hits where they have this criteria of their anime running (pretty much every year) when the series was spending more than half of its lifetime in a downward trajectory & dropped down to pre-anime sales. You can call it successful sure but it's not impressive (especially to justify an extended ending). Like I said in my previous post, I didnt deny its success but what I do deny is that its somehow impressive enough to justify a 3 chapter extended ending.

Iirc wasnt it mentioned that it got another season due to its popularity in the west?

It's kinda weird to think that Yuuna has already surpassed TLR in length, discounting Darkness of course. Granted, TLR was ended prematurely because of Yabuki's personal issues, but still.

It would be hilarious if Bokuben ends before Yuuna.
