Usually I don't like this kind of argument, but it really feels like Beast Children was launched with the increased attention to Rugby from the 2019 Rugby World Cup, which will happen in Japan from 20 September – 2 November this year, in mind. I'm guessing they'll wait for that to be over and if the series hasn't caught on until then, it'll get a quick axe.
I said the same thing some pages ago and I was dismissed mercilessly despite being obvious.

Yeah, very possible. Would just have to get to chapter 23.

If nothing else, it would be kind of fitting if they ended the series together with the tournament.

Yeah, well, it has been a very common thought ever since Beast Children was announced ;)

Just because Beast Children was created for Rugby World Cup promotion doesn't mean it won't die before then. Jump has tried plenty of times to launch new soccer series for the World Cup, and a good number of them died before the event even started.

Enough with this nonsense. Just give me my great ice hockey manga Shueisha. Would be the next big spokon. And not that rubbish that Amano came out with.

Golden Future Cup is really dead right? it should be happening right now, in the last 3 years it happened from #39 or 40 to #44, they will even publish a one shot next issue. Not really a big surprise seeing how none of the winners since Beelzebub survived but i will kinda miss the competition.

It's entirely possible they're just skipping it this year (apparently they did so in 2013?), but I wouldn't be surprised if they've decided to just stop. The contest had basically because a minefield of promising talent being given too much power too quickly, and, after the 2016 winner did one of the worst selling manga in Jump history, I wouldn't be surprised if they reconsidered how they ran things.

We already have our hands full criticizing the lineup, we don't need more things to criticize. :P
I think it is much more efficient to put oneshots sporadically like they are doing and seeing the reactions than putting pressure on newbies within a competition.

There are some series that are serialized that you ask yourself what made the editors think that they were good enough to be published on the most prestigious manga magazine in the world. We sometimes treat the magazine as if it is nothing, but it is no laughing matter how big it is. If I had the opportunity to interview Jump editors I would probably ask why they thought that load of crap above was worth publishing. XD

There was someone who legitimately tried to defend U19 on here on time.

It was a very strange convo.

I'm here since 2012 and although I was absent for more than a year and came back now I passed a long time here and I've seen a bit of everything, nothing surprises me anymore. (I'm sounding like an elder)

It's not like the current batch is any better. Jump is just not as ruthless as they were one year ago. Maybe they can't afford to axe new manga left and right any more, due to many established series ending?

Sporting Salt was way worse than U19. It looked like it was drawn using the mangaka's foot. Not cool.

True

Also, if they axe all the mangas in the bottom at this time, the magazine would be too empty (currently, the magazine should have one or two more series). They can't do that.

At least, they need more mangas (with better sales) before they can replace the current mangas at the bottom.

This is why I would say TSS still has a chance. Although it would require too much good luck (and very bad luck for other mangas in the magazine).

Expected, but somewhat worrying. They’ll be caught up with the manga in no time at this rate. I don’t feel like they’ll stop it, so I wonder if they’ll pull a typical Pierrot and do like 50 eps of straight filler lol.

They’ve got so many empty spots with more on the horizon that there’s not much point axing stuff early. Stuff is lasting twice as long, yet we’re still on track to get the regular ~13-14 new series, which essentially means we have twice as many free spots as a few years ago. There’s no competition between series anymore, just whether something can find even a smidgen of an audience on it’s own. Rather than cancelling at 2 volumes, they’re better off waiting another 2 and seeing if anything pulls a Kimetsu/Act-age I suppose.

I think that's a valid argument, but there's def a break. Like, if something sells 7k on Vol 1, it might be worth keeping it around a bit longer to see if it manages anything, but, if it sells 2k and people have to reminded that it even exists (which a friend of mine says was happening with Taisei), then it's prrrrroooobably not worth the effort.
