Okay, the "Uh... I knew it all along...?" had me laugh.

Got a bit of whiplash from the rest though. But I guess that was the intent.

Hmm, this same poll has Spirited Away as number 1, so I think the definition of isekai they use is very broad.
This article says "The isekai genre is wide and varied, but it typically follows a group of people transported to “another world” of sorts."
Going by that definition even Yu Yu Hakusho and Dr. Stone can be considered isekais.
Yeah. In itself, the isekai genre should be wide and varied, since it just mean travel to other world.

However, a particular style of Isekai, where a MC travel to other world and becomes overpowered quickly (and usually gets an harem), has satured the market.

The thing about world trigger. It's not about an mc from human earth transported or reincarnated to an mmorpg and gets an harem for whatever reason and only focus on jesus mc saving the day. As long it doesnt follow the traditional blue print of today's isekai, (aka truck-kun). Jump will allow it, otherwise it would end up like that one manga that wanted to be an isekai too but got instant axed.

As long the manga distinct itself from the typical. it's ok. Otherwise Nooooh

That's what the oversatured market exist in the genre now, and talking about it already give me an headache.:fry-_-;:sweatdrop
Your post really shows how you're out of touch with what Isekai when your only example is the same one that people mostly says out there. lol Isekai exists in many forms in its market, which is the light novel market: There's a ton of Isekai with female MC be it on male or female focused imprints (which in many cases they don't have harem, not even "reversal"), there's Isekai focused on Slice of Life, there's Isekai focused on cooking, there's comedy Isekai, there's otome isekai, anyway, there's a ton of genres out there. Isekai is just a premise of a person going to another world, the rest is just up to the series to chose what they want to do and what genre.

At the end of the day, those opinions of Isekai comes off to me as people just focusing on male MCs and ignoring female ones (mostly because they either don't look for manga adaptations of them or don't read LN at all) and other genres that are made within Isekai, which also comes with the first part. Like hell, one of the best Isekai LN (and one of the best LN as well) out there which is Bookworm have an anime adaptation right now, with Abilities Average also being out there, but I hate the adaptation.

didnt meant to bash you, i had a discussion earlier with isekai here but got debunked ofc how unrealistic it feels having it in the magazine. if its an well-done done isekai like WT,YYH, Bleach. not the junk food ones. also it should be limited for 1 isekai in the magazine, not more. im not reading jump to read an isekai anyway, so
None of those are Isekai. Otherwise, everything that has a realm or alternate dimension is isekai.

No, it hasn't, as there's many series out there which don't even get into those tropes you mention. And it's not one or another example, there's hundreds and hundreds of them. lol

And I wonder what market you're talking about when in the manga market, Isekai is irrelevant outside of adaptations (which outside of Tensura Slime and a few ones, they don't even make good numbers and are just media mix effort), and it only is relevant on light novels. lol Because heck, even in anime, they're not as big as people make them to be, when there's over 40 to 50 anime released per season and the quantity of adaptations of them goes from 1-2 to 5 depending on the season, which still gives a huge number of anime for people to watch. So yes, really overblown as I ignored the ones I dislike many times and it made no difference to me as I still had what, 10 anime which I could watch?

It seems the vol 3 cover of Futari no Taisei will complete this one.
And this Saiyuuki cover is SO GOOD!

well... i mean i dont want to praise sao much but sao is The ''isekai'' even tho its not an isekai that opened the door for the new gen, made the blue print and pretty much broke the web light novel industry. where publishers it finally took them seriously in the market. sao is pretty much the ''dragonball z'' of isekai. and also a few other that only populairize it such as Problem children from another world, overlord

ofc you can talk about earlier isekais or HACK. series that also paved the wave for its genre. but sao is the one that refined it and most importantly, broke a freaking industry.

for my reason i will call Sao ''well-done'' even tho that it had errors and still for my reason has.

also dont you find it bizzare that almost every isekai mc nowadays has pretty much a kirito rip-off design :derp hint hint
SAO didn't broke a thing. Isekai was popularized on Japan due to Shosetsuka ni Narou, which is where the boom of web novels began at the end of the 2000s. It's also the reason for why publishers like Kadokawa, Shueisha, Shogakukan, Kodansha, Micro Magazine, SB Creative and many others began to pick up popular works from Narou and other websites like Arkadia to contract the writers of the works to rewrite that story in a light novel format with an illustrator and editor. After all of that, the companies began to release their media mix efforts with manga adaptations and then anime adaptations for their works.

There's also a reason for why Kadokawa has for years a website called Kakuyomu where people can publish and read web novels, which they created to compete with Narou. And Line also did the same thing and established this year LINE Novel, an app and website where you can publish and read novels, to also compete with Narou. And like with Narou, the most popular works are often picked by the publishers to be light novels. The current anime adaptation "The is Overly Cautious" originally began on Kadokawa's Kakuyomu where the own publisher of course picked it, published as a LN, made a manga adaptation and in this year the anime is out.

Here's the Kakuyomu site: https://kakuyomu.jp/
Here's Shosetsuka ni Narou: http://syosetu.com/
Here's a list of works that originally began on Narou (ofc, not everything, only the ones that got anime and others which are included on wikipedia), which includes works like Kusuriya no Horigoto, I want to Eat your Pancreas and Mahouka (there's many Isekai out there, but there's also other works which aren't it)

And of course, this thing of publishers picking up amateur works on the internet and publishing them isn't an exclusivity of light novels, as the same happens with manga. Many manga on the 2010s began originally on twitter, pixiv or in other parts of the internet before being picked to be officially released like Wotakoi, Tsurezure Children, Shogi Girl (the one from Takagi-san author), Nagatoro-san, Anjou-san, One Punch Man (which had a remake of the webcomic by Murata on Shueisha), Pseudo Harem and so many others.

no freaking shit pal... i have been an fan of isekai for a decade, but its totally freaking useless now talking about isekai with a setting of now and then, here and there or inuyasha. i would love having these differents kinds of isekai kept being adapted but those are way less desired ofc. while you have shitty junk food isekais throwed in your face. these will always be the most populair for this age of isekai. its such a mixed bag now, its too toxic to have it in wsj

you got the sources right but these isekai novels before never really > Bombed < as easily as now or just they are just known.

that denial of SAO is super biased for someone with sources. Sao made it the most populair for the new gen, with several other backing it up

Wait, Beast Children's cover is actually really good. I thought the manga's art was supposed to be bad?

I should admit I exagerated my point.

I know there are other other types of Isekai (and I prefer some with female MC).

However, many isekai adapted to anime tend to fit the description I put (although it's true this season have some "different" Isekai). Also, a lot of light novels mantain that pattern.

I just realized how packed January will be. 12 titles from the main magazine are releasing volumes (including Yozakura and Mitama's 1st volumes) plus new volumes of SXF, Boruto, World's End Harem, Darling in the Franxxx and OP spin-offs. Surprised they

Is this the first time OP or any Jump series released not in the first week of the month? It's weird seeing it released on a different pattern..

Both volumes have had great covers. Seems like the author is a bit lacking at storytelling, but amazing at colour work. All the more a pity that it didn’t do good enough to get more colour pages

Yeah, this cover is pretty great. The color choices and just the overall feel is pretty spot on.
I guess his art is good, if he has time to put the effort into it? Maybe a weekly serialization just makes him draw bad overall in order to meet the schedule.

OP alone has released multiple volumes at the end of a month (volume 1 was released at the end of December as well).
