From recent manga sales ranking posted here in this thread, MHA older volumes manage to be in top 500 shoseiki. Is this mean season 4 manage to boost MHA sales like some predicted some months ago or this is just a normal tiny occurance do to the new season?

In the latest daily shoseki isn't BNHA not there?

The thing isn't whether readers care about the underdeveloped female characters or not, it is that readers don't care about the "lack of developed female characters".

This is the vicious circle:

"We're only putting in underdevelopped female chracters -> people don't care we're only putting in underdevelopped female characters -> this proves that readers don't care enough about females characters, so there's no need to try and do better"
Or maybe readers just don't care enough about undeveloped characters in general.

Also, stop pretending you guys can read minds, seriously.

Yeah, but I mean as overall. Not just the latest one. Can we consider MHA do get that boost or not.

There are 14 volumes charting on the latest daily ranking and all volumes charted on the previous day.

No, it does have several backlog volumes sprnkled through the list. But people don't bother listing every single WSJ volume in Shosheki.

We dont need female editors because it'll magically improve the representation of female characters in WSJ.

We need female editors because their perspective will help in taking a step towards having better female characters, provide opportunities and inspiration for more women to enter the field (both as a mangaka and as an editor).
The lack of female editors can be blown away with the nonsensical statement that "it's a shonen magazine for boys" but you can literally use the same biased argument for literally any form of art and media consumption.

That said, I dont think itll apply to a series like Yuuna which clearly was meant for a specific kind of audience. It will matter for something like OP which someone pointed has great character story IF you exclude the fact that women in that are basically wearing bikinis all the time and have the figure of an hourglass in distortion.

Also. 1000 pages. Next stop, 1500.

There doesn't need to be a reason to allow female editors. Discrimination based on gender is bad and shouldn't happen. That's really all that needs to be said.

True.

There doesn't need to be a reason to allow female editors.

As I said, regardless the gender, editors will push what is popular for the magazine.

By far Samurai 8 lol
We got almost 100 pages of discussion just in the week it came out
200 or 300 if we counted all those deleted posts :celebrate
Kind of overkill, I guess. I don't have any desires to dicuss it anymore.

By the way, I remember reading somewhere Jump is often derisively called 'Shojo Jump' because of its big female readership and having some series that seem to cater to that female audience specifically (Reborn was mentioned iirc).

Is that actually a thing?

I find it ironic that all of this is being said but... there's no thread for Shoujo and Josei magazines here. Zero, in all of those years. lol

Disagree. We don't *need* anything. Female editors will not lead to better female characters. Male editors certainly haven't lead to great male characters all around. We don't need more women to enter the field, nor do we need more men to enter the field. The field is fine and whoever wants to enter should try doing so.

"Discrimination based on gender is bad and shouldn't happen."
Agree for the most part. As long as you're not incorporating forced equality on all fronts in this, e.g. "if all CEOS aren't half male half female this is discrimination".

The only time we got actual numbers on anything female on Shonen Jump was in many years ago, which is why this argument even exist, even though not only it was an information for like 5 or 6 years ago, but it was for readership on series. What we have today? Arguments based on anime viewing, not readership, because Shueisha didn't share this for years. And from what I remember the time that happened it wasn't even from them but from a research of a different company. So yes, we have no actual information from Shueisha for WSJ be it older or current be it about series readership or the magazine itself.

I think we really need to migrate to another thread.
