Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Women can be homophobic as well, they aren't different beings and there's tons of examples out there. And women aren't half of WSJ, we have no sources for that as the only thing we ever got was numbers for some WSJ series, not the overall magazine.
Sure they can, but studies show that women are generally more accepting of homosexuality.

"In Japan, where about six-in-ten women say homosexuality should be accepted (61%), fewer than half of men share this view (47%)."

Also, "In Japan, 83% of those younger than 30 say homosexuality should be accepted, compared with 71% of 30-49 year-olds and just 39% of those 50 and older."

If WSJ is targeting the younger crowd, they really shouldn't worry so much. The vast majority is fine with the idea, and the numbers have probably only gone up since this study came out.

(That doesn't mean the majority will want to read about it, but there's plenty of people who aren't into romance or sports either and they're still making series about those.)

Any series can survive as long as it's interesting.

What makes you so sure they aren't?

Granted, Deku and Asta have girl crushes (which still doesn't guarantee they are straight, but close enough), but as far as I can remember Tanjiro, Luffy, Senku and Hinata never expressed romantic interest in anyone. You're just making assumptions here.

If Tanjiro suddenly started blushing around Inosuke in the next chapter, do you think people would stop following the series?

You're sounding a little racist/sexist here. Surely not all Japanese men are close-minded bigots.

And roughly half of the readers are women anyway.

Including Yui Kamio, three. Four if we count the girl from Mitama as the main character (she has at least three times more screentime than Mitama).

If we can have 20% women, surely there's room for one gay guy.

You really think Japan wants to use China as their moral compass?

So?

It's not like they will stop liking the series when there are actual gay relationships in it. Quite the opposite.

That'd be cool. Though Jump+has been using gay main characters for quite a while already.
Just because the characters you mentioned haven't shown any romantic interest in anyone doesn't mean they are gay either. Also you mentioning tanjirou is just dumb because he obviously isn't gay. He's from a time period where he thinks boys gotta act a certain way and eldest brothers have to take all the responsibility and blah blah blah. All that ancient japan stuff. Just to stick to that theme he definitely isn't gay. Also he's blushed at women many times. (For example when Kanroji was just wearing a bath robe) as Hinata. Sooooooo.

I mean most people would be more 'surprised' if character would be gay than straight.
That's what makes it fun. 😈

Being gay is something you are born with, so the time period really doesn't matter. Though it does make it less likely we'll see an actual gay romance.

And I never said he was gay, I only said not to jump to conclusions when we can't be sure one way or the other.

Everyone, don't link 4chan here, please. And yes, this line of discussion is getting off-topic, as I said previously.

Let's change the subject.

I agree that Women generally are more accepting compared to men, just not that a women will for default think this better.

Also, I don't disagree that it should, but should and could happen are different things. While other magazines are already open for that for ages (even into other shueisha magazines) even when they aren't yuri or BL focused, I don't think WSJ will do that at least until quite some decades. There's not even sex scenes into the magazine and other aspects that their competitors like Shonen Champion, Shonen Sunday and Shonen Magazine have, for ex, so I doubt we'll see anytime soon such changes.

Okay, so I'm gonna have to clarify the topicality rules again.

Everyone, this topic is not a hub for all discussion of Shueisha series. Series that are in WSJ and mangaplus/jump+ are the only series that are allowed to be discussed here.

For instance, previously a user brought up Twin Star Exorcists, which is a Jump Square series. While that is a Shueisha series, it's not in the magazine/online magazine I mentioned, and as such, is off-topic.

We can talk about series without it being out on mangaplus?

That isn't the issue, the issue is that the series that was being discussed has over three volumes released, which means it's off-topic.

I'm having to repeat this a lot lately, so I don't think everyone is understanding me. Over three volumes released = off-topic, even with spoiler tags.

Anything under three volumes released is on-topic, so long as plot discussion is spoiler tagged.

Guys, discussing potential pairings from a series with over three volumes out is off-topic still.

How about we say which authors we'd like to see return this year?

confused why civil discussion is being squashed.

It isn't. Off-topic posts are being deleted. I said LGBT discussion as it pertains to the magazine is fine, however, plot discussion of series with over three volumes is still off-topic, even if it pertains to potential LGBT pairings.

Ah, I see, I thought that only could be talked when the series were out on M+

That has to do with the 24 hour spoiler rule, and mostly for the scanlated series. The series that are allowed to be discussed here are the new series that usually aren't scanlated. We wait for the M+ release because that's the first time to for us to read the newer series.

However, they're exempt from the 24 rule, so literally as soon as they're released on M+, you guys are free to discuss them. I petitioned the admin team for that to be allowed, and they agreed.

Looking at that new Jump app, is there a reason Yonagi and Denji are absent, yet Hachimaru is present? That's just weird to me.

Given that Jump adapts a lot of Trigger series into manga, do you guys think we’ll ever see the reverse?

Trigger adapting a Jump series? Given that Trigger usually sticks to anime only series

Actually, taking it a step back even further, what exactly is the point of this new app? How exactly is it going to be different from Jump+ and MangaPlus?

It allows reading WSJ issues for free if enough people are connected together through Bluetooth, from what I can understand.

Japan does not have a MangaPlus alternative where free chapters are posted when the magazine is out, so it is a bit different.
