It's interesting looking back at what the magazine's lineup used to be like, around 2000 they had

Rookies
Whistle
Rising Impact
Prince of Tennis
Hikaru no Go

all running together, a full quarter of the magazine taken up by successful sports manga. Compared to only 1 now. It's hard to imagine getting 5 different hit sports manga running at once in current Jump, I really hope they can get at least one success before Haikyuu ends.

It's interesting that aside from POT, all of these ended within 2002-2003. And we also got Eyeshield 21 from 2002 which was pretty big (most importantly launched Murata into the spotlight)

The thing about Whistle for me isn't that it has run at the same time with these manga. Is that with almost 20 million copies sold, Shueisha treats it like if it doesn't exist. Kinda odd to see Shueisha ignoring in all terms of promotion a series that I'd put on Shokugeki tier in popularity terms.

Fun thing: Whistle! was the last anime to come to Spain before the Selecta Vision era, and the last anime to be aired on Spanish TV, in 2009 or 2010 (in both cases, the following anime to come was Assassination Classroom, already for PC platforms, DVDs, etc).

Man-gatarou started a series on Jump+ that'll depend on direct reader input to decide the plot.

I know there's some independent webcomics like that but I don't know if I've seen an officially published one before.

a battle shonen oneshot about construction and buildings starring a silver hair protagonist
where have I seen this before? :eyeroll

giant hermit crabs using human houses as seashell is pretty cool concept

Not before Reborn, but at the same time and year, D.Gray-man author.

I recall Dragon Quest Dai no Daiboken and Hikaru no Go had female authors, but they were co-authors in both cases. I am having the doubt of Hoshi Engi now
both Inada and Sanjo are guys, you can see them both on Jump covers back when they put authors on them

I had no fucking idea D-Grayman's mangaka is a woman. Or I think I forgot.
Yeah I think D-Grayman would've been bigger than Reborn had it gotten the chance.

Jeez, wouldn't that be the dream. I put her on the same tier as Togashi.
here's a mind refresher for you all, a lot of the criticism Bakuman received was how its treated its female cast
one of which is Aiko who went from being their highschool rival to being a damsel in distress

what makes this kinda creepy is Aiko is based on Katsura Hoshino and Hoshino was Obata's assistant

Bring on the fortnite one shots

Build King is such a cool concept. I wonder if that'll come after Burn The Witch.

Sounds a lot like what's going on with the gag/comedy manga now.

I hope the 55th anniversary Jump game will be so much better than Jump Force.

JF felt like it did not know what direction to go. Dark, serious, and devoid of charm. Whatever happened to the tagline "Laughter, effort, and friendship?",you know the magazine's motto? J Stars Victory VS nailed this aspect more. Or hell, most of the older Jump crossover games.
Oh, we’re trashing on Jump Force? Excellent. It’s a damn shame this game had good sales in the west. For a 50th anniversary game Jump Force is an insult, and their choices of series only becomes more hilarious now that Kimetsu no Yaiba is a huge success and it’s nowhere in sight. At least Victory VS was smart enough to add Koro-sensei and Saiki before they got their anime adaptations.

For that matter, can Bandai Namco just drop Spike Chunsoft already? Sigh...
If only ArcSys made a Jump VS game instead of Dragon Ball Fighterz...

That wasn't the criticism of Aiko, the criticism is that Aiko went from being a novelist to being a manga author purely to rival Takagi and "win" his love, unable to accept that her crush from high school on him is not mutual.

Namco probably can't do shit about it since they don't have the license for Kimetsu games lol. But other than that yeah, it's very much a disappointing game.

Didn't Bakuman have a whole arc dedicated to how this was generally a bad idea?

Unironically thinks the one-shot looks more promising than Build King.

Regarding Bakuman...uh...oh dear. Oh, oh dear.

Well, it's not like anyone was expecting KnY to take off that much. Even HeroAca only got one character in the base roster, and at that point it was one of the biggest things in the magazine. I'm sure Tanjiro and Co. will get their due in the next game, if licensing allows it. If anything, it's the older series that got done dirty. Jump Force is supposed to be a celebration of 50 years of Jump history, but instead it's pretty much just D.O.N ft. Bleach.

Yes, that’s true. But like I said, Assassination Classroom and Saiki were added to Victory VS even though they didn’t have voice actors/anime adaptations. If Jump Force wasn’t so focused on filling Dragon Ball, One Piece and Naruto for some reason, they would have added up and comers to the roster.

Jump Force was a game aimed at western audiences, that's why more than half the base game's roster is taken up by DBZ, OP, Naruto, and Bleach and why it went weirdly dark and gritty. J stars was for Japan, Force was for the west.

I hope, if we get a new game for the 55th anniversary, they target Japan again so we can have a more varied list of characters (and I hope they get a different developer but I'm not expecting much).

The Gintama and Kochikame snub is a crime. I know they've never been big in the west, but...bruh. Most people in the west have never heard of Dai I'm pretty sure and he's still there. They could have added Arale at least. Some people know her because Toriyama.

Dai was probably in because of Dragon Quest 11 doing really in the west (and to get people curious about the character in preparation for the upcoming anime). Ryo's in Force because he has a gun and a west-aimed game needs guns.

I wonder how long it'll take to get news on Dragon Quest's anime anyway, if everything's getting delayed.

I've read City Hunter's inclusion is because of the director being a fan of the series. It was also clearly done with the French audience in mind since Ryo was revealed there (same went for Seiya and Latin America).

The lack of gag characters is a crime.

Yes, because all Jump properties were always 100% serious. lmao
I think the issue is less that they didn't include gag characters, and more that the general tone was wrong, period. They marketed and presented the game as if it were a Marvel movie, when Jump's series generally have a tone that doesn't even come close to that.
