Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I didn't a lot of early canceled manga before Manga Plus occured. However I really liked Stealth Symphoni, and Noah's Nota had an interesting plot imo. I had huge expectations for Beast Children but it really wasn't that good.

For Yozakura, I've been part of the one who ad been really hyped in the beginning by this manga, but like a lot of you right know I don't where it wants to go, and even if it's not bad it is not what I thought it could be.

Mitama is probably the biggest surprise to me. After the first chapter I was like "what did I juste read? how can this be published in WSJ?", it tooke at least few chapters, but right know I am really enjoying it, we are starting to have several spirits with their own characters and the lore is starting to get explored so I'm excited to see what ill happen next.

ZIPMAN is pretty cool in my opinion, nothing original that's for sure, but I like the art and the story isn't that bad so I'm stiking to it and hopefully it will good. The 3rd chapter fight wasn't really good, has I wasn't into it, but how the brothers interacts made it more appealing imo.

Last but no not least : Agravity Boys. Well, after the first chapter, I thought that it wasn't for me. But to be honest this second chapter made me rethink that, I even laughted. The thing that happen during that chapter made me thing that it could create funny situation and more that just the original plot woth the "who is going to be the girl", I think it could really develop something and we are in space so other non human characters could complete the cast. I am looking forward to it, even if I doubt it will stick arounf for a long time! Wait and See !

Yozakura's going too fast if anything, it's too desperate to bring in all the characters as quick as possible. What it needed to do was slow down, actually establish characters properly before jumping to the next one, and tie stuff together properly so that it doesn't feel like a scattering of random filler episodes. You do that stuff when everyone's already attached to the characters and wants to see the silly SoL antics they get up to, not as the initial way to introduce everyone.

Ne0lation, TSS, etc have similar issues as serious manga. They just kept doing new arcs about some new unconnected villain without taking the time to connect them together, so it felt like nothing it did actually mattered and hence wasn't giving a reason to check out the new chapters. Granted ne0 did eventually introduce a way to connect stuff together but by that point it was already dead.

if yozakura were fast, he would be in a serious arc right now.
Since Chapter 9, the manga has focused on closed chapters of comedy and romance between the two protagonists.
I think it has slowed down a long time ago.

Fast paced doesn't just refer to serious stuff, comedy series can be fast paced too. Introducing a new likely recurring character by squashing an entire arc of content into one chapter is very fast pacing for an intro. Especially doing it 3 times in a row.

The manga pretty clearly wasn't meant to be that "serious". It was clearly marketed as a "romantic comedy". Why is everyone expecting a Gintama style serious arc when there's no reason to?

I see. So now One Piece, MHA and Demon Slayer are their new big 3. Lmfao
It's expected. This is the same magazine that put Toriko ahead of Bleach before it's 3rd year and despite selling half of Bleach's volume print at that time.
Although, it isn't "official" till a double issue cover shows it.

My point still stands
No. No, it doesn't.

That is true. The series description in Manga Plus says it all:
Taiyo Asano is a super shy high school student and the only person he can talk to is his childhood friend, Mutsumi Yozakura. It turns out that Mutsumi is the daughter of the ultimate spy family! Even worse, Mutsumi is being harassed by her overprotective, nightmare of a brother, Kyoichiro. What drastic steps will Taiyo have to take to save Mutsumi?! A spy family comedy - the mission begins!

No. No, it doesn't.
Maybe this is exactly what led to Toriko's downfall. Jump rushed to promote Toriko ahead of Bleach, a much more established series which was at its peak during that time, and that led to the promotions backfiring because of the way they obnoxiously put it in front. The magazine misread the timing of Toriko's popularity.

Yes, I know it had great tank sales. But I doubt Toriko was slowly becoming a household name at the time, whereas with MHA, you could tell it was slowly making its footing in households.

Meanwhile, placing Tanjirou right beside Luffy and Deku makes perfect sense here because they have a much stronger basis to go off of (i.e.: word-of-mouth, hype).

Yeah, MHA and KNY placement is totally acceptable and reasonable. Watch WSJ do a 180 when KNY ends and put HQ back in the top 3.

Toriko's downfall was solely because of WSJ's and the network's decision to push it on little children. Got them good ratings and merchandise sales because it became a kid friendly show but didn't really translate much to anything else.
That said, I do think the network wasn't completely wrong with how they chose that direction since Toriko seemed like a kid friendly show until later when shit hit the fan.

It does. It's bad writing to flesh out all your characters right at the start of the story. What will be left for the rest of it?

no one's saying fully develop them. We're saying give them an actual reason to be in the story which aside from Mutsumi, Taiyo and Kyoichiro, none of them really do 17 chapters (end of volume 2-early volume 3) in.

...You continue to let them grow as the events in the series shape their further development?
It's better to do a little bit of fleshing out at first so it doesn't feel completely random and overwhelming 100 chapters in when you're getting these massive infodumps on characters you should have been building long beforehand.
We aren't asking for full chapters on every members backstory. Just subtle little character and world building here and there.
Without it these characters have no reason to be there or cared about.

Exactly. So why did you make it sound like it should be done in 17 chapters then???

Because if you're going to bother having all these intended secondary characters and introducing them all in the first chapters then during those first four months you should at least START to develop them or do literally anything with them for that matter instead of acting like they simply don't exist outside of the first chapter.
It just feels to me like laziness or lack of creativity.

It also feels like you're missing our point. You don't have to have 17 chapters of backstory for each indvidual character, and you definitely don't need to just randomly decide to give them infodump backstory and development years into the series.
There's a middle ground that a mangaka who knew what they were doing would be treading. What we are saying isn't a hard thing to understand and its clogging up the thread repeating ourselves over and over.

Same here, Karura ftw.

I just got caught up with Mitama. I gotta say that this manga has serious potential to be really amazing. If it continues at the rate it's going, this may very well be the case.
