Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Dude, you're just passionate for this site and everyone who does their part in making sure people can enjoy manga. So I totally understand where you're coming from! If anything, I came off a little strong too so I'm sorry lol

Though that's only for Viz, right? Some people can only access MangaPlus, which doesn't offer that.

Or does MangaPlus have all the chapters available in countries where Viz can't be accessed? I don't know.
No, here in Brazil is the same, most series with deleted chapters and no access to Viz.

I've always assumed that was the case. If I'm wrong though, that does make me reconsider my stance.

Dammit, great interview, There's so many interesting points that I don't know what to go. I mean, considering that Shiro is 21, wasn't she picked when she had 19-17? And she did fanarts before? And both Usazaki and the editor knew her? Also nice that they even recognize how much Shiro evolved from chapter 1 to later on, it's impressive how she did, even more when now we know that she wasn't a mangaka before but was discovered and then trained to be one. Really shows how much talent that girl has.

Also, interesting how it mentions "ACT-AGE is the first of its kind, taking on a genre that had never graced the pages of Jump before." but you can bet that people will call it battle shonen when the anime comes, like they do with Dr. Stone.

Uzuzaki's pixiv is still up if you look for it. She did some Samon fanart.

Jaiminisbox just announced this on their discord.
So mangastream isn't completely dead.
It's somewhat nice, as I do enjoy some of their non-Jump series.

I mean, it is kind of true. I didn’t read it cause I thought it’d be immediate axe fodder. I’m genuinely surprised that it’s managed to survive and build up an extremely dedicated fanbase. I really like that more diverse titles seem to be making their mark in Jump in recent years.

MS is dead. They deleted their site and Twitter. JB is the one that isn't completely dead, as far as we know.
Well, rip chi no wadachi then.

It's funny because years ago, like between 2012 ~ 2014 the talk in many places were about how "diverse" Shonen Jump was becoming and that battle shounens were facing a crisis, this because between 2012 to 2014, Jump was struggling a lot to get a new battle shounen (WT were just a mild success and the rest a bunch of flops) while you had Nisekoi, Haikyuu, Ansatsu, Souma, Saiki, Isobe, also Kuroko no Basket becoming a giant success, all of them being the new "Jump Generation" and none of them were a battle shounen, only after BNHA started the genre came back at full force in the magazine.

Good riddance to JB and MS. All my appreciation and goodwill disappeared a year ago, as their work became completely parasitic to the industry. I just dont get why they continued to release the leaks instead of translating whats not simpulpubbed or just wait until after the official release to provide an alternative, unless there was a significant amount of money involved. I seriously doubt this would have happened in that case.

I know it's true, nothing similar ever was there. It's kind of a Bakuman, Death Note and Neverland situation My point is that even with that said, I still see people saying that the manga is a battle shonen. Which tbh, it's a term that I already dislike when battle manga is a better and the real term anyway.

Also, still about the interview, nice to see that WSJ editors are scouting and observing for artists on the internet to be mangaka. Shiro was one of those cases, so I wonder if some of the other more recent artists are as well.

I don't think WSJ will ever pick a manga that is from pixiv or twitter like other magazines did like One Punch man, Nagatoro, Wotakoi, Tsurezure Children, Anjou-san, Shogi Girl and such but picking the artist itself is already nice. I say that they wouldn't because I think that unlike the others, the making of the manga for WSJ would make those very different versions if they ever picked so I don't think it's very likely.

These "pixiv" mangas have the tendency of being too "casual" for Shonen Jump, they could just publish the mangas like they are but i doubt most of them would survive on Jump (excluding OPM)

That's Yuko with Rena? hahaha
Most of the series I follow look pretty nice. I wish Yuuna could've been over by Rena Haze (and Yuko) so we could've seen her reaction to everyone seeing a spirit. I am a bit bummed out though that Makima was used instead of Power.
So much happening today wtf.
So:
-Color pages everywhere
-Awesome Jujutsu Kaisen color page
-Neverland and Shokugeki dates
-Act-age interview

I dunno if Mangani or Raf have already posted this:

I'm so glad Act-Age struck a chord with the readers and managed to become successful. I'm hoping that Mitama can have a similar growth trajectory as Act-Age. In some ways, both of these series gave me the same feelings at the beginnings of their serializations. It took a couple chapters for each of them to become interesting, but they pulled themselves together really quickly, expanded their casts nicely, and are really able to weave between comedy and serious developments quite well.

Shiro did some supremely awesome World Trigger (apparently her fave?) fanarts before she went pro and also some great My Hero stuff. It's really a shame that she nuked her pixiv after going pro, but I guess that's rather common practice (thankfully I saved some faves by coincidence before all that happened~...).
I already consider her one of the best artists in WSJ, at least when it comes to portraying varied faces and emotions (the aspects a series like ACT-AGE rly needs). Definitely one of the biggest talents in the industry rn, considering her age.

Jump Festa 2020 Poster

It's really cool seeing characters from the top Jump+ manga (SxF, Jigokuraku, World's End Harem) essentially be as prominent in this poster as some of Weekly Shonen Jump's heavy hitters. Also, goddamnit, what manga is the girl with the skull eyes at the bottom from? That caught my attention and I remember seeing her before.
