Well, that's a really sad thing. People can enjoy manga without tolerating this kind of fanservice. There's tons of really good series that don't resort to it. If you like it that's another story.
This new Zombie series lead CP's really lame and I honestly feel ashamed that in 2020 that's still seen as normal...
About the TOC, I'm really happy with Mitama's CP and looking foward to its sales numbers.
Or they just thought Yuuna wouldn't sell and then the license got snatched away. Or they just hesistated for too long and the license got snatched away. I doubt there was an active decision here in the vein of "Oh no, this manga is too dirty, we will deliberately not pick this up!"
Series like To love ru, gantz, tenjho tenge, were all Shueisha series that would have definetly sold well(so viz had first pick on them) but they didn't.
Even Kenichi mightiest disciple was surely going to sell hot (the anime did super well for funi apparently).
What do all these manga have in common? Ecchi/Almost ******-esque content
Viz actively avoids picking anything with ecchi/fan service on it, the one exception was Shokugeki no soma which I don't think rank in their Jump app? (Or maybe I'm wrong, I know it was published in manga plus, but what about Viz's app)
Iirc they later picked up Tenjho tenge and released it uncensored after other publisher left it incomplete, so at least they are willing to publish "adult" manga (read: "ecchi" manga almost reaching on ******) in extreme cases.
Honestly, I always think this argument put too much responsability in a fictional work, not enough in our society problems.
To be clear, the smut manga directed to women that use this kind of style is something a good amount of female readers should enjoy (or wouldn't exist).
The CP of Undead Unluck is directed to men, but it won't necessarily make a lot of women uncomfortable.
To be honest, at first, I was pretty uncomfortable when I read these situations in manga directed to men or women. Overall, I was uncomfortable with the excessive fanservice.
However, since I wanted to enjoy manga and anime, I had to learn to tolerate most of this (not all). I even enjoy some things.
That said, that doesn't mean I don't know the difference between fantasy and reality.
I was gonna stay out of this topic but this comment...;
1. This is a magazine aimed at a children and teenagers. One of the biggest driving influences behind teenagers and children are the stuff they read and see aka stuff like this.
2. Learning to "tolerate" something does not make that thing right. People have been "tolerating" sexual harassment for decades. Does not make it right, in any way or form.
3. You underestimate how often people find it hard to distinguish fiction from reality.
I've witnessed this first hand multiple times when walking with my best friend (who is a female) when random guys catcall or sing romantic songs as she walks by. Something that is overly seen in Indian movies.
She has two options in that scenario. Either just walk off and not say anything thereby giving these men the impression they can do it again to someone, or call them out publicly which often forces them to say shit like "i'm sorry, sister. I was just singing, sister" and run scared.
4. WSJ should do better. It's not the 1970s or even 90s. We are in 2020. Having a series with that as a LCP is literally the most degrading shit ever.
I understand a genre called Ecchi exists. But WSJ should really start drawing a line. If they thought a series like AOT was too graphic for their magazine, shit like this should be too obscene for their magazine.
Fiction and non-fiction can both absolutely desensitize people to certain things and create societal problems.
Not that extreme content shouldn't exist or be censored. The nature of art is to elicit emotional reactions from people. However, are we forgetting the fact that this is a KIDS MAGAZINE? Arguing that pornographic material is also made for adult women doesn't change the reality that there will be young girls reading this as well being taught that having their chest violently groped is no big deal and also funny. This isn't a seinen or adult magazine.
It's a huge cultural problem in Japan that kids and subsequently adults are so desensitized to the seriousness of sexual assault.
Shonen Jump isn't a kids magazine, it's a teenager one. Kid magazine are Corocoro, Saikyu Jump, V-Jump, etc. If this was a kids magazine, To Love Ru and Yuna never would be on it.
Not only that but other shonen magazines have content similar or even worse in their lineup. This isn't some exclusivity from shonen jump but something that is there on many of them from the past to this day.

Teenagers are kids.
Regardless, shonen mags are typically aimed for pre-teens/young teens who are easily influenced by what they consume.
I've also said over and over that I'm well aware this kind of content is not new to manga or the shonen demographic.
I'm arguing that it's a cultural issue that Japan needs to evolve on as a whole.

I don't really see how this is so different than past offerings. Is it just because the LCP has the character groping? Because other LCP had nude girls or almost nude in many cases, be it ecchi focused or not. Same for manga itself. Where is the drawing line?
Also.. just reading the last couple of posts from the last couple of pages.. has Kimetsu no yaiba sold 12 million in like less than 2 months (iirc the were oricon yearly numbers were published in late November, so I assume they track November to November every year, correct?)
Call me a hater all you want, but I would just be very pissedif Kimetsu ends up even beating One Piece's 2009 (or 2010?) 40million high that was driven by Strong World and Paramount War.
I mean if the hype doesn't die it's a real possibility this happens.. it has sold 12 million so far, and it will probably publish 4-5 new books this year, I assume they will probably sell 2 millions each, that's 22 million.. it "just" needs to sell 18 million of backlog..
I just don't know why I'm feeling like this lol, like such a hater haha, it's probably a combination of me not really seeing Kimetsu's appeal (from the first 9 episodes of the anime, so pls no spoilers because I will eventually continue it) and me thinking other manga deserve more recognition (like I don't think Kimetsu is "bad" but it's only "fine" and when something is just fine... Well it's not "good" lol).

Either way, about what you're arguing, don't expect that to happen. Call me cynical but if the country itself isn't changing, I don't expect this here to somehow change inside capitalism. If this ever change, we won't see it on our lifetime, same for other issues on other countries. But that's another discussion.
Why would having worse content in the magazine justify the fact that groping is already disgusting.
Also, just as a side note, the zombie character in the One-Shot ends up looking to have sex with the female mc due to some plot reasons, so yeah, he's fully aware of what he does, not like he's dumb or whatever. He literally just uses the girl as a method to accomplish his goal, which kinda emphasizes the idea of objectification on the character.
Am I being maybe too radical? I honestly don't care. This is not content that should be exposed to the audience this magazine can actually have. Other than inappropiate, unnecessary and stupid. Next series, please.
PD: To the idea of the final result of the first chapter can be different compared to the one-shot! Sure, the CarbonCopy Boys experience has told me enough.
I like Undead Unluck’s art (though I feel like the coloring could be better) and the main female character has a pretty cute design.
Still, I don’t think having the very second thing you see of this series be the main male lead grope the main female lead makes for a good impression for your average reader. Especially if she’s visibly uncomfortable.
Granted, we’ll have to see what the chapter’s like before I can really make any real first impressions.

It’s more of an argument that just because it’s not the worst offense doesn’t mean that it isn’t wrong. The whole groping thing will most likely be played off as a joke, much like Meliodas and Elizabeth from Seven Deadly Sins. But times are changing, and things that may have been once acceptable as a joke just aren’t anymore.

You are pissed because Demon Slayer is over hyped. I never usually call things over hyped or overrated but in this case it's just true. Imo. But I ain't pissed because I wanna see something actually beat one piece more than once. That would be really interesting

They initially passed on Shokugeki no Soma for a while. They didn't add it to the english edition of WSJ until the chapter count was in the late 90s. This was before they starting translating the first few chapters of each new series. For comparison, My Hero Academia was added to the english edition of WSJ when it's chapter count was in the early 30s. That was also before new series had their first few chapters translated.
They didn't think AOT was too graphic for the magazine. They simply didn't think the artstyle or story fit WSJ. Nothing's ever been said that I know of about them finding it too graphic.

It's not to justify, it's to show that this isn't something unique. It's not like I have any thing on this, the only thing I'm interested to read are the other two manga coming. lol

Are they not that acceptable anymore in Japan? Well, things certainly change, much like panty shots pretty much stopped on the 2010s in general. So we'll see how this is going on this decade.
