I share the sentiment of those who are wary of reading new series in Jump until a certain chapter count. 18 years reading/watching Jump series and I have lost track of how many times I have been burned. Losing Hungry Joker to see Black Clover live did something to me, though I am happy Tabata is having success. :(

Reading: HxH, Jjk, Chainsaw, Neverland, Mitama, Agravity, UU, One Piece, Mha, Mashle, WG

Anime only: Yaiba, Dr. Stone

Dropped: Zipman, Yozakura, Black Clover, Samurai 8

Plan on reading and/or watching: Act Age

I read/watch series depending on my own entertainment, regardless of safety or popularity. I'm not a completionist so I don't care about endings that much. Luckily, I still haven't read an axed series that I wanted to continue.

Full interview between Otacon and Nakano.
Reminding me of the Taguchi/S8 situation.

Hiroyuki Nakano: The editor is the very first reader, so it’s important not to hold back and say things like “it’s interesting”. The readers can be a tough crowd, so it’s important to let the author know when what they’ve written isn’t interesting. The editor currently in charge of One Piece is still relatively inexperienced, so apparently, if they don’t give a thorough explanation of their judgments Oda Sensei gets upset, saying things like “Did you even read it? I need to know what isn’t good.”

Problem is, Kimetsu's already entered the endgame, and it's not likely to be extended past this half year. The way I see it, Kimetsu's popularity will wind down in the next 1-2 years or so, which is when the anime adaptation probably ends. That said, it will still go down as part of Jump's "Twin Pillars" alongside Heroaca in the 2010s.
I sort of disagree... I think Kimetsu’s popularity will wind down eventually, it happens to all series, but the anime alone will keep people invested for the first half of the decade. It was the anime that brought the manga into mainstream prominence to begin with, and with all the money they’re making, Ufotable would be crazy to not fully adapt the series. From what I’ve looked up, they could probably do 2 more two-cour seasons after the movie. Either way, I can see it joining alongside HeroAca as the two big Jump series to gain worldwide attention after OP, Naruto, and Bleach.

......But that's exactly what I meant. Kimetsu's ending soon, that much is clear. But as far as its popularity goes, it'll go on for as long as the anime airs. After it ends, Kimetsu's popularity will slowly wind down. I expect the anime to end in 2-3 years.

Kinda funny that Nakano oversaw both of Shimabukuro's serializations, and yet Shimabu still has yet to make a comeback.

I read every series in Jump currently, I love how it's now possible to do it. Though I admit I mostly skim through Samurai 8 and Zipman.

I'm kind of looking forward to Yuuna ending since, while I enjoy that series, it being replaced means we can finally have every series from WSJ with official chapters coming out.

Seems CSM is a beacon of change for WSJ.

I do think it is interesting that out of the last three series to stick, only Jujutsu really seems super like a "Jump manga" while Act-age and CSM don't really.

Even Jujutsu doesn't feel like the typical JUMP ideals to me, it's specifically Bleach-like in style I'd say, with maybe a bit of investigative drama influence, which is a bit different from the whole 'friendship, effort, victory' historic slogan. Compare it to stuff like Zipman, Shinobi Squad, Higuma, Ne0, that felt like they were trying to be as typically JUMP as possible.

I wonder how much of it depends on the editor too, we know some get very involved in the manga and are a full co-writer, while others are mostly hands-off only stepping in when they really don't think an idea works or for minor dialogue changes and such.

I imagine a lot of it comes from kids growing up and wanting to make manga like their old favourites that fit a JUMP style, but I imagine some editors must be a bit pushier and want to change a maybe riskier idea or a distinctly non-jump-like scene into something more typical for the magazine.

Noticed that Gotouge's pronoun was translated as "he", I wonder if this settles the debate. Of course I'm aware that Nakano may have used "aitsu" which is gender-neutral, but we don't know for sure.

Considering what the anime director has said, I'm 90% certain that it's just a translation hiccup.

Incidentally, with Mitama's sales...not looking great, now I'm really hoping they bring Shun Numa back.

Could be a guy who prefers gender-neutral pronouns. No contradiction.

It's just the nature of Japanese and English. It sounds pretty awkward to talk about someone in English without using he or she, while in Japanese you just say their name each time and mostly don't use gendered pronouns, especially when talking formally.

Look at Soul Eater for example, the dub turned an unknown gender character into a boy because it's hard/awkward to avoid using he or she.

I will still continue to believe in my wackjob theory that Gotouge is a being that is able to switch between genders. Man, with Araki being an immortal vampire, Togashi being a human that hibernates, and Tsurun being a literal pigeon, I have to say that mangaka truly are facinating wonders of the world...

Dont sure about this. I mean many believed that Akutami was a woman but then he went and said "Sorry this is mistake. I am not a woman" In Gotouge case this was " Lets use gender neutral" Feel the difference as they say. Why would man hide the fact that he is writing shonen manga? But if she is she it might be to prevent readers from fear that shonen written by woman might not be very good.

Though I imagine there's no need for them to worry about that at this point, right?

I'd imagine it be more due to how...odd some otaku treat women. Paru Itagaki was once sent a bag of condoms.
