Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Goddamnit, is it literally impossible for a Jump gag manga to anything close to positive numbers now? Tamotoy, David, Mitama, all these series with clear promise behind them, yet end up selling pennies.

I swear, I'm about to lose any and all faith a new gag hit could even exist.
Agravity Boys to save us la don’t worry

At this point based on opinions seems like half of Shonen Jump is ending in the next weeks/months, because Neverland is supposed to be ending for months, We Never Learn is also supposed to be ending, Yaiba is in the final battle, now people are thinking that Yuuna is ending soon too, also there are comments about Samurai 8 wrapping up and today Zipman and Yozakura are possibly ending too kkkkk

I'm voting no for WSJ should foresee the seasonal anime adaptation only and here is my point.

1. ) STAFF MATTERS!!! Whether it adapt Long running or Seasonal, all of it are depends the staff's direction.

2.) Not all seasonal anime does succeed and some of it are either rushed or poorly adaptation or not getting popular.

3.) Long running anime are quite profitable than seasonal but It depends on WSJ on what manga should adapt that's why the Big 3 gets the honor.

4.) It's 2020, Long running are getting more quality production that can put out match against seasonal nowadays and it's insulting to think of long running anime are dying and to all animators are working hard in tight schedules.

5. ) I'm ready to attack me if you hardly disagree my points that WSJ should continue to adapt Long running anime more in the future because it is their tradition.

Ok, thanks. See this girl could in a U19 series for example complain how ecchi mangas get so many chapters, sales and even anime and merch just for flaunting tits and butts just to break down and cry that maybe her series would have continued if her mangaka had drawn her in a bikini to rake in some perverted fans.

Also did Momiji really sell 30k? Holy shit, this are some numbers other newcomers wish they had nowadays. xD
Momiji didn't sell 30k.
A little bit of explanation, it was a term for wsj manga that weren't axebait nor in the big league aka mha, haikyuu, op, gintama, soma. Stuffs like samon, hinomaru and even kny were member of this club (another ancient meme, welcome to the dojo).
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

So, in that meme pic about u19, it's about momiji want to be at least in the 30k club, in case you still haven't figured it out.

Not really, the first three are obviously ending, is just that are a LOT of "this is possibly ending in few chapters" lately, at this point there are like 7 series ending in some chapters according to the thread which to be honest would be something to see kkkkk

1) This is quite true, as at the end of the day, it depends on the staff and animators working on it. However, there's more to it than just staff (even if I think a seasonal schedule allows the animators more time to breathe and polish their work). There's the problem of pacing, mainly by making sure the anime doesn't catch up to the manga. Some long runners add filler arcs, some slow down the pacing drastically. Not a lot of people like filler, and many people skip the One Piece anime despite how good it looks because of it's slow pace.

2) This can be true (Nanatsu no Taizai Season 3 is an example), but there's also cases where an anime can grow in popularity despite its relative lack of quality in it's adaptation (Quintessential Quintuplets). And there's anime that had a great adaptation but failed to gain much in popularity (Fire Force sold abysmally and didn't seem to boost backlogs much despite its adaptation, though that was more due to unfortunate timing than anything).

3) To be honest, I'm not completely well-equipped to argue this, as I'm not too well versed on the ins and outs of anime development, but some of Shonen Jump's most recent big hits have come from their seasonal anime. MHA has been and will continue to be popular worldwide for years, and Kimetsu is a phenomenon in Japan and is gaining a worldwide foothold as well. Meanwhile, Black Clover, while popular, has never really managed to reach those heights, part of it due to having a lackluster and slow start that alienated many potential viewers.

4) From what I've gathered, there aren't a lot of long running anime nowadays - really, the only long-runners I can think of that aren't Black Clover are from franchises that were established decades ago, such as One Piece, PreCure, GeGeGe no Kitaro.

5) I'm not trying to (or I don't mean to) attack you. I just want to share my perspective of this. Also, the anime market is constantly changing and evolving, and as such Jump has to constantly evolve as well, and that means abandoning some traditions. Many of the series that they're publishing now wouldn't have been published 10 years ago. Case in point: a lot of the more recent series in this batch really don't feel like they'd come from WSJ, but they do and they're doing well here.

I could be wrong on any of these, and if so, feel free to correct me. This is just my perspective as to why I forsee Jump sticking with seasonal anime adaptations from now on.

If Mitama thing is stock issue, they actually did print less for it than Yozakura, which is surprising given that seems people were all really sure they were expecting more from Mitama than the other one. Reprint information will tell us what happened.

When should the reprint info become available?

When it becomes available. There's no schedule for it. Anyway, the fact that Mitama is still available on Amazon meanwhile Yozakura is not makes me really doubt the first one really has stock issues or is actually pretty much sold out in a lot of stores.

There are many other benefits of long running show. One which I rarely see people mention is that they tend to maintain the same core staff for a long period of time (there are some exceptions). This allows them to improve as the continue to work on the series. Take Hiroyuki Yamashita as an example. He started out as an animator in Naruto Shippuden and as time passed, he progressed to the point where he became an episode director. Madara vs Shinobi alliance was his debut and he also directed the famous Kakashi vs Obito episode. Later on he was given the opportunity to direct the Boruto movie which ended up being a box office hit and then eventually became the series director of the Boruto TV anime (He stepped down after episode 66).

Another example is Chengxi Huang. He started working on Naruto Shippuden during its last 2 years but also had a similar growth like Hiroyuki Yamashita. He ended up directing Boruto episode 65 for his directorial debut. That episode took exactly 5 months to finish but it was all worth. This is the beauty of long running. Basically long running shows are training field for animators and directors.

If WSJ had made Naruto seasonal, it's very likely we wouldn't have had most of those iconic episodes.

Yes, but those iconic episodes are far in between....

You can check out this list and that's a lot of long running anime. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_anime_series_by_episode_count

Currently Boruto, Black clover and One Piece from WSJ. Outside from magazine there were Anime's are still on-going to this day such as Detective canon, Doreamon, Chibi maruko-chan etc. If you counted re-brand shows like Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon, and some kids anime like Yo-kai watch, Zoids etc.

Long running anime is still a thing in japan but unfortunately they were never been worth streaming like Funimation or Crunchyroll that's why they thought it's dying medium.

I could say the same for seasonals. Haikyuu s4 director has been through poduction I.G training system and came through the ranks to become director. Yutaka Nakumura has been animating what is basically sakuga porn for 4 continuous seasons for My hero academia. It is the studios that are the training field for animators and it is their policies about how the training goes not necessaryly because of long runners.

Let me give you a link to explain better. The article is about haikyu, its production and production I.G training methods.

You seem to be ignoring that the vast majority of "long-running" anime that air nowadays are kids anime. Congratulations, you miss the point behind why these series are long-running to begin with.

Have to say, it's really disappointing what Zipman turned out to be.

The idea of a Toku Jump series could've been really cool, and instead it's...nothing.

I could see a FighterZ type game made by Arc System Works.

But maybe that's being too hopeful.
They are working on the next Guilty Gear. So that's very unlikely to happen any time within this year or the next I think.

Act-Age 2nd Anniversary will have a "commemorative plan". Popularity poll, most likely?
