Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Don't think so. With so many bigger series ending this year WSJ will be careful which new series they gonna give up on. They need replacements first which they believe have a chance of gaining a readership. I actually think most of the newcomers will stick around for quite a while aka none of them gonna end in U19 club expect they are superbad. We will see what WSJ decides on their next axe meeting, if they got enough new series in their backhand, they might given Yokazura and Mitama and others the cut, if not they might give them a 2nd chance to gather more fans. And I think the latter might rather happen than the first.
As long as sales improve in the second volume, I think at least Yozakura is safe.
I believe that zipman should be cut with 19 chapters, after all with the latest events of WnL it should be finished in March.

Hang in there boys, we ain’t down yet. Shueisha recognizes Mitama and Agravity Boys to be our new gag overlords of this new decade. Give them your life force 🙌
Well, looking at the acceptance of Undead unluck, the jump may not need the mitama that much.

Ok guys, the information on the latest batch of reprints is out and there's no Yozakura and no Mitama listed, meaning Mitama dropped on it's 4th day out of bad sales indeed. Other than that, there are reprints for the KNY fanbook going out on the 27th.
Damn that's bad news, hopefully next volumes do better and it doesn't get axed before then. I know it doesn't have the strongest start but I think it's gotten quite a bit better and knows what it wants to be way better than most of the newbies atleast.

He just hesitate for some seconds, he still was going to kill the chinese guy, but he used his powers on Andy to stop him.
I think his power is something like Undecided, meaning that humans are complex creatures who both want and don't want at the same time. Like in Izumo's case she wanted to run away but was also so scared that her body wanted to stiff up, then the chinese guy amplified the one part he wanted and she couldn't run away. Same with the slash from Andy, Andy probably wanted to like 99.9% kill the guy right there, the 0.1% of him noticed Izumo coming towards them and wondered how she'd feel if she saw him kill someone in cold blood. If the guy had not used his power Andy would have followed his 99.9% and killed him on the spot, the 0.1% whiners be damned. But due his power he could enlarge the 0.1% to basically 100% stopping Andy straight in the tracks. And as long as he keeps you in his eye field you cannot overwrite his command over your will as that funnily enough is still your own will just enhanced by somebody else.

Is it safe to say that Shueisha is the most profitable publisher in Japan right now?

Do you just mean for manga? If so I wouldn't be surprised. If in general I've seen a lot more non-manga/LN stuff published by Kodansha. In fact, I don't know if I've seen any from Shueisha although I'm sure they have done some.

Despair! The sales of Jump gag manga has left me in despair!

Pretty sire Yozakura was meant as an Action Comedy with Family SoL. Mitama makes lots of japanese wordplays and strange poses and exaggerated expressions and is all in all pretty wholesome.

I only read the first two chapters of Mitama, but one thing I noticed was how dated the artstyle looked. It had that Toriko thing where the artstyle looked like it was from the 80's or earlier.

Could that be a potential reason for why it's doing poorly?

Uh....I've seen 80s gag manga, and Mitama looks nothing like them. The series art-wise is more styled off female-directed BL and shojo manga.

Talking about Kubo new series, i didn't see anyone talking about the genre, but if there's something that i noticed during the Fullbring arc despite being a pain in the ass to follow weekly, is that Kubo really knows how to create a mystery and dark atmosphere with his art, something very suitable for a detective/thriller manga, the whole suspense and mystery about "what is everybody hiding from me" "Is this character a traitor or not" was well done, but i don't know if Kubo would be able to deliver in the plot since these genres are plot heavy but he could do some great stuff with his art.

About Mitama, i think you guys are forgetting that the first volume not selling that good doesn't mean the second volume will not do better, unless the manga drop to the rock bottom of the toc it can perfectly well grow with the next volumes

Be that as it may, do you think the artstyle hurt the series?

Not really, more traditional gag mangas usually don't have any great art, David-kun had a really good art and bombed, so i doubt that Japanese readers care much about artstyle in a manga about silly comedy, .

The one shot of this was in the 2017 Golden Future Cup. How did it took this long to make anything more out of it? And this is only just another, but longer prototype, a volume long mini series, like the Jump Giga stuff were, right?
