My ranking of the current newbies would be

Yozakura = Mitama > Agravity > UxU > Witch > Mashle > Zipman.

The only one's I'd be really sad about getting axed are the top 3 though, UxU I'd be a little bummed about too I guess. The bottom three are fine at times but I'm not at all hooked.

Also, for people who have really been loving Mashle, have you guys all read/watched Harry Potter? I never read the books or watched the movies, so I'm not sure if I'm missing out on some of the charm or humor of Mashle by not knowing much about Harry Potter. I know enough about it to know quidditch is a thing, who the principal is parodying, etc, but I would easily missing more obscure references.

but really, the only one I really care about is Mitama. Guardian and Mashle are okay and I want them to get more time, Agravity had some good chapters and a lot of bad ones, and the rest I actively dislike.

So far it is parodying the obvious HP things, so as long as you know about them you are fine. I have yet to see schoko frogs which are alive or jellybeans which taste like everything including puke and such.

That's what I was figuring. If it appeared in a Harry Potter commercial, then I could probably recognize it being parodied. I guess it's just the art quality and one-note gag that making me lose interest a bit. It's not nearly as bad as the example I'm about it give, but this reminds me a bit of Seiji Tanaka - poor artwork and over-reliance on a single joke

I don't consider Yuji and Megumi having a rivalry. If there is one, is pretty weak.

Yozakura - not my favorite series, but enjoying it

Mitama- still haven’t read past first chapter but plan on to

Agravity Boys - like Yozakura, not my favorite, but I enjoy it enough

Zipman - Don’t hate it, but don’t like it enough to read

UxU - hated it so much I dropped it after 2 chapters

Mashle - can’t get past the ONE similarities. Dropped after chapter 3

Witch Guardian - nothing horrendous, just bland and forgettable, so probably dropping soon

I read the books once, long ago, but don't really remember much of the details. I hadn't even noticed Mashle was a HP parody, I just saw it as a OPM-like gag manga in a fantasy setting. (In fact I still don't associate it with HP, the tone is just too different.)

I still enjoyed the first chapters a lot (last one was meh), so I don't think you really need the background.

I have watched. And while I think it's a fun parody of HP, I think it's more than that at the same time. I hope it survives as I've been liking every chapter.

I'm not saying you're disputing but that Mashle's HP parody is so "in the face" that's basically impossible to not notice, also the logo is for the franchise, not only the books, the last movie was 9 years ago and the franchise still everywhere.

I was enjoying Mashle for it's first 4 chapters, but this most recent one just didn't hit the spot for me. I feel like him burying the teacher was just dumb and wasn't satisfying as the previous "acts of brawn". I suppose that joke is getting stale now...

Wow, so many amazing chapters this week. KnY and WNL were especially great, but JJK, CSM, MHA, A-A and UU were also fantastic.

As for the newbies: dropping GotW this week. The current fight is meh, drawings feel stiff.

UU is still great and Mashle is growing on me.

I don't know why I'm still following Zipman, might as well drop it. It's not as bad as for example Ne0 or Tokyo Shinobi Squad, but damn it's one of the least exciting battle series I've read in a long time.

Yozakura and Mitama were solid, glad that they are both doing good for now.

Regarding that S8 possible break/ending, I feel like it needs more than just a few chapters to wrap up. Unless it's just super rushed axe&forget style. New chapter was okay.

Im loving Undead and Mitama and Yozakura grew on me with the romance in the center.

Mashle still makes me laugh, but despite that I can't call it a good gag manga. Always the same predictable (but still effective) jokes, and worst of all it drags out something that would be one page in a better manga, like Saiki, into ten pages. This chapter really only had 2 or 3 jokes if I'm being generous, spread out over 19 pages. It's just too light for gag, so I'm hoping it at least develops more of a narrative, but instead it again just whipped out more shameless HP parody.

Witch isn't offensively bad, but it's still the only Jump manga I've read in ages that had zero merits. At least Zipman has awesome art, but this has some of the worst action scenes I've seen Jump.

The rest of the magazine is consistent, Jujutsu keeps being the best, Black Clover keeps being the best comfort food of manga, and Neverland keeps nosediving and I'm only sticking with it to see how the freefall ends.

I wouldn't say stale, but rather... missplaced? Like, up until know, whenever Mash punched someone I thought they deserved it. And while I certainly don't like the vize principal and his discriminating way of thinking, I feel genuinely sorry for him. Mash clearly overreacted in this chapter and I don't like the fact that he's getting away with it, as others have already mentioned. Also - as you said - the whole idea of burying someone was kinda dumb. I guess the mangaka wanted to try something different than the usual one-punch, but it still felt out of place. I hope the next chapter is better, because I actually like the series.
