Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Generally speaking I'm on the perspective that series should be read from the perspective of binge.

Once it's out, it's out, and nothing can really change that. It's pointless to argue for a weekly read because that kind of experience is only fleeting. If an author is unable to make a full experience from their story, I'd consider that a failure of creative design.
MHA I think manages to pull off that weekly experience when Horikoshi gets really into it. Current chapter leaks read like a suspense manga when you slowly and slowly realize the dread setting in and go OH SHIT.

Chainsawman is slowly starting to move from weekly to binge. Current arc is a weekly epic craziness and madness, but it also is giving me an impression of wanting to re-read the entire arc from the start to see the whole picture.

BTW, not commenting anything else until tomorrow, but I've seen almost all Jump chapter leaks for this week, and My Hero Academia and Chainsawman are pure awesomeness.

Can't wait for this current arc of My Hero Academia to end for reading it entirely again.

Because I feel some of us need a refresher, here's the current volume sales for all of Jump's series with volumes out + some of the notable Jump+ series.

If you go back to old series though there's probably a bunch of huge trendsetters that were really unique for their time, like Harenchi Gakuen pretty much creating ecchi manga.

What? Gintama's comedy is mostly three things, poop and dick jokes (which have been around since WSJ started), parody, and commentary on society (which definitely weren't new concepts in 2004). It was nothing new in terms of comedy.
This. I think Gintama comedy feel like a tone-down of Zetsubon-sensei with more toilet humour.

What do you think about a Magical Girl serialization but with a bit more mature theme to it? Like Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. I think it would make waves if done well in WSJ and it’s not a bad deal. Also have there ever been serializations about magical girls in WSJ?

Dunno about that.
I feel, magical girl manga nowadays always try to come up with a twist: magical girl but actually boy, magical girl but actually sadistic villainess, and the mountain of garbage that is just magical girl but edgy, tho some of them can be funny (I blame madoka for this).
All I want to say is, mahou shoujo as a subgenre is kind of like isekai. You have to be already onboard with the core concept to enjoy most of it, which is just the core concept with different skirts.
And, I think, majority of Jump readers would look down on magical girl, for being too 'girly' for 'manly' jump boi.
So, tough luck.

I'm not sure how much of a deal that would actually be. There probably is one but I can't personally think of any acting manga in a shonen or seinen magazine, only shoujo and jousei and act age seems to be doing fine. Well I guess technically not WSJ, Blue Flag was a lot closer to shoujo romance being based more on drama and emotions than comedy and cute girls most shonen romance focus on.

Hell according to your links, Ore to Hero to Mahou Shoujo and Mahou Shoujo Site are shonen and Looking up to Magical Girls, Mahou Shoujo Tokushuusen Asuka, and Machigatta Ko wo Mahou Shoujo ni shite shimatta are seinen (with Mahou Shoujo of the End not having a listing but the bar on the cover says "Shonen Champion Comics" so I assume it runs there) so they seem to do well enough in shonen and seinen magazines.

Well, you do have a point, but, compare to other shounen magazine, jump is the most orthodox and boyist.
Also, to be specific, site and of the end ran on the monthly spin-off of weekly champion (kind of like jump sq, or bessatsu magazine which AoT is in), so there were more leeway for their edgy content (site used to run on weekly champion for a while, but champion is wacky so lmao).
Meanwhile, Ore to Hero and Looking up run in only really, really (it pains me to emphasis this) obscure web magazine
Thus, you can't trust magadex demographic tag, my friend, most of the times they are really token.

Also, that was off topic as hell.
Back to my first point, for modern magical girl manga to success, readers need to be familiar with its core concept. And it hurts me to make this statement, the number of wsj readers who enjoy a classic magical girl manga (the kind of card captor Sakura) would be really low.

But like, a Shonen Jump manga is made to be read on a week to week basis, that's the distribution method, like, I love bingeing series and it's how I read most before I get caught up, as yeah a good manga can be read either way, but I don't think you can really argue that the weekly read is some superficial experience.
This doesn't totally seem like a fair argument. What about novels originally released in a serialized format? They [binging/volume reading vs. weekly reading] certainly provide distinct experiences but I wouldn't say one is necessarily better than the other. Especially when mangaka know their series will be read both ways by different audiences.

Cardcaptor Sakura deals with a few pretty progressive topics though that may or may not fit well with WSJ audience, like actual LGBT representation that goes beyond the usual shonen fujobait (dunno if I've ever seen anything more than just fujobait in WSJ tbh lol). But yeah anyways I would have thought it's pretty clear that a shonen magazine's target demographic won't be too engaged in a shoujo story, no?

Maybe magical girl manga like Cardcopter Sakura might not work but something like precure or lyrical nanoha which are more action oriented could work.

It is more an issue of execution over premise. There are manga/anime that I enjoyed that the subject matter doesn't really interest me when I started them like volleyball and acting in Haikyuu and act age. Then you have Samurai 8 which had some of my favorites elements in fiction (samurai, cyborgs, space adventure) but didn't keep me interested past chapter 5. So maybe a magical girl series can work, you never know

There was a Magical Boys oneshot a number of years back.

Didn't Togashi do something like this?

I see a successful contemporary mahou shoujo Jump manga trying to strike a chord similar in tone and style to Yuuna's serious arcs as full series. Hell let Miura do it.

Yeah, in a perfect world, with perfect execution, anything could work on wsj.

Now thinking about it, has there been any official cross-over between sailor moon and Togashi works?

You can read looking up to magical girls if that is what you looking for (with yuri go up to 140%)

Didn't Togashi do something like this?
Sensui and Itsuki were a in-canon couple.
Togashi also drew Hiei x Kurama yaoi fanart. Wanted to make them a couple in canon but editor wouldn't let him.

Killua definitely seems written to have a one-sided love of Gon. Even declaring his love for him at points to other characters.

I think they have had only cameos

In the Alluka/Election Arc of the 2011 anime, we see Alluka playing with some familiar looking dolls in one of the flashbacks. Extra points for this shout-out since Togashi is married to Sailor Moon's manga-ka.

In turn, the series received a Shout-Out in Sailor Moon Crystal, where Ami and Usagi are at an arcade and one of the arcade games is Greed Island.

I would say that would probably work only for champion and magazine since they do tend to not be afraid to touch on subject matter a lot more dark than jump but who knows we have chainsaw man so I think there is a small chance

No, but it seems evident that she's been an assistant of his since after the Chrollo x Hisoka fight maybe even before. Her art style pops up a lot.
