Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

This doesn't totally seem like a fair argument. What about novels originally released in a serialized format? They [binging/volume reading vs. weekly reading] certainly provide distinct experiences but I wouldn't say one is necessarily better than the other. Especially when mangaka know their series will be read both ways by different audiences.
True, perhaps I was being a bit unclear in my wording. I was less trying to argue against binging, cause yeah, if the author of a weekly manga is doing stuff right, it works either way, and more just trying to prop defend the weekly read. Probably should've made that more clear.

Because I feel some of us need a refresher, here's the current volume sales for all of Jump's series with volumes out + some of the notable Jump+ series.

It’s crazy how spy x family is one of jumps most successful series yet it doesn’t even run in the main magazine. I think that once this gets an anime jump plus will explode and it can cause most of the more popular series sales to increase and jump plus could even go to the point of being a legitimate money making site for sheuisha.

What are the chances for Spy x Family to switch to the main magazine and become a weekly serialization? I think it could be a possibility. Has anything remotely similar ever happened to a series?

And to think, the ridiculous number of characters is because of Captain Tsubasa. Damn you, Tsubasa!
I think you've beaten the record (assuming it was #1), Togashi. You can stop now.
Can you explain this please? Or was it just a joke?

I think there's no chances. It's better for Shueisha to have a big title like SxF in another magazine than WSJ.

Next to none.
Jump+ has a different editorial crew whose jobs depend on having successful series on their service.
Plus, the series is clearly growing just fine in Jump+, doing better than most of the Weekly magazine as it is. It doesn't need Jump, and shows that digital distribution for manga in Japan has a real audience that can be tapped further.

I see a successful contemporary mahou shoujo Jump manga trying to strike a chord similar in tone and style to Yuuna's serious arcs as full series. Hell let Miura do it.
Miura should do a fantasy battle series. I kind of want him to do something a little different
Can you explain this please? Or was it just a joke?
Togashi's 2016 Jump Ryu interview has him say that he wants to surpass the amount of characters introduced in that Captain Tsubasa arc. He even had sheets of paper with all the characters so he can keep track.

Cardcaptor Sakura deals with a few pretty progressive topics though that may or may not fit well with WSJ audience, like actual LGBT representation that goes beyond the usual shonen fujobait (dunno if I've ever seen anything more than just fujobait in WSJ tbh lol). But yeah anyways I would have thought it's pretty clear that a shonen magazine's target demographic won't be too engaged in a shoujo story, no?
Idk

Sorry I screwed up the spoiler tag lol

@perroloco

To that "manga which made their own genre" list of yours I would like to add World Trigger as "Team battle" manga.
I have never read a shounen series where "team battle" was such a huge focus, the main focus even, and with it ofc tactics, strategy and terrain, equipment, mistakes made by combatants and much more. Even "harassing" Operators by putting on and off Wormbag to slice their attention has a meaning and an impact on the battle and thus on the story as a whole.
Usually shounen are all about 1 vs 1 even though most start with a "team" of main characters around the protagonists. Like Naruto who in this first couple dozen chapters had to fight his teacher and enemy ninjas with his teammates but later on it came down to 1 vs 1 battles where new powers got wiped out to keep the readers invested. Many shounen mangas seem to follow that, introduce MC with other main characters as a team and then later in the story let them do 1 vs 1.
In WT even side characters can beat a really strong opponent as long as they play to their strengths, have a plan and the opponent makes a mistake/underestimates the enemy. Like Osamu will hardly ever achieve much on 1 vs 1 but in WT it is shown that it is even a win if you don't win as long as you keep the enemy occupied for your strong comrades to clean up another front and it also showed how being prepared helps to increase your chances of survival and achieving your own winning condition like how Osamu was able to use a new trigger through planning and preparing ahead to keep 3 opponents occupied with occasionally support from Chika. A MC that "wins" through his team even if he loses all the time because he is so weak? That is pretty refreshing in a shounen, same with Osamu being a true weakling as in staying weak throughout the story and not suddenly getting a powerup through a gift or an awakening of a demon entity or due finding a new powerful weapon.
Also with those team battles the side characters have a rare chance to shine constantly unlike in usual Shounen where they often get shown like once and then like never again, forgotten or only to be used to be curbstomped by the new enemy to show off how strong they are which sucks because that way side characters are treated as power measurement and not like people with their own hopes, dreams, goals and the likes which makes them people and not plot devices. I really enjoy how even the side characters in WT can be a threat in battle due working together, a surprise action or someone concentration just being bound to someone else and aren't just there to make the MC look good.

Not to be a pessimist, but we may never have a magical girl manga in Jump.

Even Magical Taruruuto-kun is basically "Doraemon with wizardry".

I love to define Jujutsu Kaisen this way: "the MC is a comfy guy who fights like Dr.Strange, and has a Kyubi with the personality of Gilgamesh"

I love Jujutsu Kaisen fights and power-style. It drink from Yu Yu Hakusho but does very well its stuff. The Dr.Strange fighting style is also original in a Jump action manga.

PS: I wonder if we are getting a Yozakura cover for its 1st anniversary

SxF has had special chapters in the main mag. We can pretty much think of it as an honorary member of WSJ at this point.

I'd personally be quite surprised if we ended up seeing 1st anniversary covers for either Yozakura or Mitama considering neither one of them are big sellers or firmly established in the magazine. However, I would love to see each of them defy the odds and get anniversary covers.

So has Tokyo Ghoul, Kingdom, and Terra ForMars. Having a special chapter for advertising purpose doesn't make something an honorary series. Shueshia jjust likes to promote their series across their various magazines at times.

That's pretty common for popular Jump+ series. Summer Time Rendering and Jigokuraku (along with a few other less popular ones) also got special chapters in Jump, but they're all still distinctly Jump+ series.

None of these series need to be tied to the "main magazine" to qualify their success, they already speak for themselves (especially SPY x FAMILY). I couldn't be happier that Jump+ is beginning to establish itself as it's own unique service.

The double page spread of Itadori and evil brother 3 in the bathroom was crazy.

LOL ok - but I'm talking about normal, not hyper-stereotyped, gay/lesbian characters and relationships being shown without it being made into a big deal, which rarely ever happens in WSJ (if at all) and I don't expect it to for some time. Cardcaptor's Touya and Yukito is an example of what I'm talking about (I guess Togashi kinda did do it too but that's the only example I can think of), where an actual romance between developed and also highly-relevant characters, whilst not the main focus of a story in any way, is portrayed in a subtle yet clear manner.

I don't think we'll be seeing something like that in WSJ for a long, long time (though I'd like to be wrong). I mean, it only fairly recently started to become normalised in Western shows and media too so I'm not surprised.

Jeez I said this before but I would like to see in WSjump a series about fashion design, like Runway de waratte.

Btw, are we getting PVs for new volume releases?
