Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

How would you rank the villains of current Shonen Jump? (Not counting Kimetsu since it already ended)

For me:
1. Shigaraki
2. The Jujutsu Kaisen villains (aka Mahito, Getou and his gang)
3. Black Clover Dark Triad
4. Beast Pirates
5. Mashle Slytherin
6. The Chainsawman villains (ranking them so low because they don't have enough weight)
7. The Yozakura Family new villain (if he sticks and doesn't become minor character number 482)
8. Ratri (Neverland)

Still not counting Dr.Stone new characters because we don't know enough of them. If they turn to be really antagonists, they would jump to place 5. I'd put the previous Dr.Stone in place 7, at the level of Ratri. And if we want to count Kimetsu, I'd put Muzan on 3.

I still don't have clear if count Victor in UndeadxUnluck
1. Kimetsu no Yaiba's sales (literally every manga via Oricon)
2. The Axe (all 7 newbies)
3. Shueisha not hiring any female editors (most female characters in battle shonen)
4. Togashi's health (HxH)
5. The hellish schedules of veteran mangaka (OP, MHA, BC)
6. Moral Guardians (CSM, Yuuna)
7. Overseas (JJK)
8. Shueisha's constant moving the 'Climax' goalpost (TPN)
9. A refusal to properly canonize romantic leads to potentially keep the series interesting (WNL, Yuuna)
10. Nobody giving a shit once the anime actually does come out because it looks boring (Act-Age)
11. The general disinterest in sports manga/anime outside Japan (Haikyu!!)

Haven't read enough Jump manga to formulate a ranking, so have something a little more meta.
Wait, there's a villain in Mashle literally named Slytherin? I thought that was just a joke. The hell. xD

2) Do other shonen magazines have female editors? Just curious
7)????????
11) From what I have seen Haikyuu is popular outside Japan. Maybe not kimetsu/mha popularity but pretty popular

2) Yes.
7) I don't think Jujutsu Kaisen isn't as popular overseas as it should be, especially for a battle shonen. Chainsaw Man's outdone it in popularity, and depending on where you look, perhaps Act-Age as well.
11) I have it ranked last on the list because honestly, this isn't much of a problem for Haikyu!, as it is quite popular and very beloved. Still, not a lot of anime fans tend to watch sports anime, and that's really the only problem I can think of that Haikyu could be suffering from.

1. Tserried - Nuanced and terrifying.
2. Mahito - Very hateable.
3. Kikuse - Garbage editor.
4. Makima - The mystery around her works well.
5. Shigaraki - Interesting Satanic archetype, wonder how he'll develop.

The Sign of Abyss is finished too (there's still another chapter to come, but the story is obviously over. Just like Spotless).

At this rate, MangaPlus is gonna run out of running series by next month.

How would you rank the villains of current Shonen Jump? (Not counting Kimetsu since it already ended)
1. The Umas in Undead Unluck
2. The demons in TPN
3. Those flashy guys from Dr Stone (are they even villains? oh well)
4. Those creepy guys from Mashle
5. Those psycho guys from MHA
6. Those dark guys from Black Clover

... Is it me, or did individual villains go out of fashion somewhere? It seems all of them work in groups now.

Wait, there's a villain in Mashle literally named Slytherin? I thought that was just a joke. The hell. xD
Nah, there's only the Lang dorm ('ability and ambition').

The students haven't been named yet.

Group villains outnumber individual villain. I'm guessing you mean individual like Hisoka, L, Koro-sensei(?) - The 2nd God of Death, Orochimaru(?) - but even him has minions, Kira (jojo part 4), in fact most of jojo part 4 villains are individual villains

The problem I see with jjk right now is simply the fact that it's running alongside chainsaw man. Before chainsaw man, I remember feeling much more invested in jjk. Yet once Chainsaw debuted it just stole all it's thunder.
Both try to do rather similar things and strike a similar feel for me. As good as jjk can be, it always feels stale on Sundays because I also have Chainsaw Man to read. Even the worst Chainsaw chapters are better than the best of jjk, and that's not a knock on jjk. It's a cool series. It's just not on the same level as chainsaw man.

I am frankly baffled as to this comparison on multiple levels. Jujutsu and Chainsaw have very, very few similarities on a narrative, tonal or characterizational level.

Jujutsu is essentially a new reinterpretation of Japanese 90s occult fiction filtered through the modern advancements in battle manga which happened over the last 30 years. It's main influence is Bleach and the works of Yoshihiro Togashi, with its main themes being built on the characters personal motivations and how said motivations intersect with the larger narrative.

Chainsaw meanwhile is a manic splice of Go Nagai-esque uproarious content and Fujimoto's passion for cinema underlined by a rather cynical look at human worth and meaning. It's arcs are positioned heavily around the exploration of its thematic narrative more than to build some kind of "world", and it's tone is far, far different to standard Jump fare. If anything, I'd argue through Denji it more acts as a deconstruction of the stereotypical shonen battle manga, re-framing it on the lens of reality as Fujimoto sees it.

This comes off as just a blatant attempt to assert your favourite series as "superior", and I really don't like it.

I prefer Jujutsu. Chainsawman I honestly just skim, read whenever theres a Lord Chainsaw x Beam moment. I just cant get into the unfinished artwork.

Jujutsu's familiar, fun, and a pure and utter blast

damn good work So 21 is the most and WT only had 10? Going by math by chapter 100 CSM should have 20 in total

For all those words you included zero substance. Pretty much everything you said about each series could be said about both respectively. Both are series that are inspired by previous decades (especially Togashi) and focus on psychological writing, horror, bizarre characters, black comedy, and very stylistic over the top battles. Both try and experiment more than the other battle series in the mag. Chainsaw is just better at it imo.
I'm baffled you're trying so hard to pretend you don't see why people could find the series similar.

As much as I love Chainsaw Man, there were a few moments in the story that didn't hit for me. For the first 20 or so chapters, I didn't enjoy it at all then the Katana Man arc started and it became one of my favourites in the roster. Chainsaw Man's pure madness is also something that misses sometimes, don't get me wrong, I love when the series goes nuts, but sometimes it just goes overboard and it borders confusion. Also, a great majority of the cast doesn't stand out to me.

On the other hand, Jujutsu Kaisen is a series I have enjoyed since the start. The action is always on point and the series never stops in its tracks, it's always high octane arc after high octane arc. A great amount of the cast is pretty charismatic, with many standing out on their own. Also, its light hearted moments are really fun. If I have to criticize anything, is that the battle system is too intricate sometimes, so much so that sometimes you have to do a double take to understand.

All in all, both series are super enjoyable but, Jujutsu Kaisen takes the lead for me.

Fair opinion. I think the difference between preference depends on what the reader asks themselves while reading.

Chainsaw Man fans usually ask "What will happen next?" But Jujutsu Kaisen fans generally ask "How will this happen?"

A lot of the people who post here ask "What?" And have more faith in the author. It's common with western fanbases considering people didn't expect Bleach to fall apart in certain ways.

I remember liking Chainsaw a lot, more than Jjk at first, but it got repetitive, fights get resolved in ways I find contrived, interesting characters other than the Denji and Power duo get very little paneltime; making their deaths lack weight, and Fujimoto is starting to add jobbers without killing them off.

My appreciation for Jjk gets better because I love how detail-oriented it can be, specialy the fights and powers. It has a basic and common formula, but what it does is generally done well.

Mostly a theory, but it looks like this from my perspective considering Chainsaw fans have an appreciation for the series nudity, and Jjk fans tend to appreciate the detailed fights.

The action is always on point and the series never stops in its tracks, it's always high octane arc after high octane arc.
For me, that's my least favorite part of Jujutsu Kaisen. The characters and individual arcs are good, but the overall story structure is all over the place. Arcs seem to randomly begin and end without any time to breathe (the flashback arc, good as it might be, is the worst offender in this case). It just doesn't feel that cohesive to me.

On the other hand, there's a lot more to Chainsaw Man than "pure madness" that people don't give it enough credit for. The madness doesn't just happen out of nowhere, Fujimoto takes a lot of time to build up to these events and give characters more room to express themselves which makes the shocking moments even more shocking. There are plenty of chapters completely dedicated to fleshing out characters with very little action. The overall pacing may be fast, but it's well-planned and methodical.

And personally, I've found that CSM's craziest moments are much easier to follow than JJK's (which end up being kind of convoluted with the power system).

Akutami is a little too reliant on text to explain things for my taste (yes, I know that sounds weird coming from the person with a HxH avatar, but Togashi's writing is much more enjoyable/interesting to read, imo). Fujimoto has a really good understanding of comics as a visual medium, and takes advantage of that to create beautiful and compelling moments that speak for themselves.

Me personally
Fight scenes- jujutsu kaisan
Characters- jujutsu kaisan
Art- jujutsu kaisan
Comedy- chainsawman
Overall arcs- chainsawman
Suspense- chainsawman
Horror- jujutsu kaisan
Character designs- chainsawman
Paneling- chainsawman
Writing- chainsawman
Power system- jujutsu kaisan
World building- jujutsu kaisan
Light hearted moments- both
All in all I feel both series master what each series sets out to do. I don’t see the point in comparison since they are completely different series (jujutsu kaisan is an occult fiction battle manga while chainsawman is an experimental series that branches off of multiple genres (battle, suspense, horror, comedy, drama, and romance). Both are very amazing jump series in there own right.

People are selling jjk short on it's creativity. It also draws from multiple genres, and Akutami like Fujimoto is a big film buff and that influence also comes out in the dialog, imagery, characters and setpieces.
It's not just some generic battle manga.
