Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Why do we still care about wnl position?
We all know it just go through the motions, do its own things for the last three arcs, voila.
Is there any differences between last place, first place, colour page at this point?
WNL's position is completely irrelevant, we already know where it ends. I was just pointing out that it has CP and is not ranked. That's preeeetty much about it.

Wow, this has to be the most bizarre ToC in a looong time if its real, Bone Collection in 4th, Black Clover in the bottom, Yozakura in last? wtf???
Also isn't 5th the highest rank UU got so far in TOC? I expected it to end up somewhere near ten after its CP, glad to see that's not the case.
But yeah, BoneC in 4th for first chapter, wow, same for Yozakura being last despite its increase in sales, maybe too little too late or AT got such a grand review from the readers that they consider it the replacement of Yozakura in a couple months already?

thats a massive dumpling or a tiny human
She uses them to stuff her chest obviously.^^

A detective manga??? Now i'm really interested to see it, never thought Tamura would be the author to bring a detective manga back to Jump
How long has it been since we last had a Detective manga in Jump? Now ofc I don't expect Tamura to actually showcase real detective work, it will be mostly comedy and some brawls, but the setting could allow him to flex his brain muscles if he wants to.^^

New reprints update

Partial reprint for UU1 and 2? Better than nothing I say. At least it means UU1 is still selling somewhat to be in potential need of bookstores needing supply.

They're still being cautious with Undead Unluck, huh. I thought they would at least send some of those reprints to the stores already.
Maybe until a series gets 30k in their first week they consider it as "not popular enough yet" to warrant full reprints because there is still a risk in supporting the newbie too much? Maybe the S8 incident left a real trauma in jump management, who knows? xD

Well, I guess that means we’ll see MHA’s cover soon. BTW, we’re going to have back-to-back volumes in December, right? Or was it supposed to be 21-22?

I don't know how many times we have to repeat this, but the reception of a chapter doesn't show up in the following issue, it takes weeks until it happens.

We'll get previews of all covers in next week's issue. My Hero Academia's might come sooner since they usually post it on twitter. Also, Kimetsu no Yaiba 22 is going to come out in October.

Well, too bad Zenitsu I guess. I'm almost certain 22 is gonna be Muzan and 23 is gonna be Nezuko and Tanjiro.

How many series are supposed to end rn, considering there's still 2 incoming ? Or Guardian of the Witch will be the last for now ?

There should be 1 more. Yuuna, TPN, Guardian make 3 and there's 4 new series.

I was just thinking... A detective with a unique adopted daughter sounds awfully similar to a certain Jump+ smash hit about a spy with a unique adopted daughter which also just so happens to have a very similar style of comedy and tonal versatility as the returning mangaka.
I think I remember somewhere he mentioned that he felt hungry Marie failed because it was so different than Beelzebub.
I hope he didn't lose all his confidence and proceed to just recycle his old toy with the packaging of a new huge hit he feels personally threatened by.

Also, this to me really shows that WSJ really wants their own answer to Spy x Family with both Yozakura Family and now this. Wonder if other weekly magazines will put out their own Spy x Killer. Spy x Family could end up having a very strong legacy as not just a high seller and flagship of Jump+ but also being a highly influential series.

I knew it was gonna be Yushiro and Tamayo for cover #21. The #22 can be in group, the final one would be like the first one but happy.

are you sure it wasn't "too similar"? I admit I didn't read a ton of it but it felt very Beelzebub just switch out demon baby for gender bending. MC even looked a lot like Oga and Marie like Hildegard and I remember a few others looking like major Beelzebub players. I mainly dropped it because I felt I'd rather just re-read Beelzebub since the demon baby was more interesting than hungry woman.

This is a huge stretch "personally threatened by" seriously how did that even come up ? So because a ordinary person adopts a strange girl, it is wsj answer to spy x family? You are really making connections where there are none. Plots of this nature that are common for comedies.

Now that is reaching. You haven't read a single page of it yet.
This is just like you judge UU by the cover again.

Nak the hack strikes again.
The way this thread treats Nak bears a resemblance to how Europe used to treat Jews. Sure, anything wrong is due to Nak?

Personal speculation of course, but Spy x Family is clearly inspired by the Tamura playbook. So I find it kind of odd that when Tamura returns after a failure it's with something very similar to Spy x Family on paper. Perhaps he may not be threatened, however it's not hard to see how this series could clearly be a response to Spy x Family and possibly a personal one from Tamura

It's not a leap to assume a series about a father employed in an investigative agency with an adopted daughter who has supernatural abilities would read similarly to Spy x Family. Especially when Tamura is the one behind it.
Also, are you trying to imply the first handful of UxU chapters weren't extremely problematic? Toning down that element of the series doesn't erase it's existence.

Also, I've ever said anything about Nak. Don't put words in my mouth.

Aye, that’s going a bit far.

But personally to me, Nak’s record haven’t been thrilling ever since he took over. It feels like he just tries whatever. Although it’s true that successes can come unexpectedly in the history of Jump, just randomly throwing darts blindly and hope it sticks isn’t a sustainable business model. There’s a reason why there’s so much criticism against the animanga industry practices nowadays.

We don't know what actually happens behind the scenes though. Maybe Gag mangas are the next hit, or maybe he's trying to contrast the super dark of the magazine with super light. Maybe he's just trying to get a confirmed gag hit since those usually do really well and maybe it's good for increasing magazine circulation(?)

also Eden's Zero Anime announced and Tokyo Revengers anime announced pretty close to yonkou's announcement. Not saying we shouldn't be wary... but Fire punch??????????

Nakano has churned out multiple hits every year since he became editor in chief. He also presided over the Kimetsu (and to a lesser extent The Promised Neverland) explosion even if it was serialized a year before he became EiC.
Plus his willingness to experiment is resulting in Jump having extremely unique hits like Chainsaw Man and Act-Age.
All that looks great on a resume and for legacy.
Most criticisms of Nak are nitpicking.

What criticisms? If you're referring to people outside of Japan criticizing industry practices, that's just them projecting. Aside from overworking the employees (be it anime or manga industry or any other industry for that matter) there really isn't anything wrong with the business model. Even overworking as a mangaka is partly dependent on their skill levels.

WSJ has always thrown darts blindly and hopes it sticks. If there was a sure shot method to know what series would do well, WSJ would only have hits every serialization round.
Chainsaw Man would not have been serialized before in WSJ. Yet here we are with arguably the most interesting and intriguing series in WSJ since Death Note.
