Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

im curious when and if yozakura will get the circulation announcement. Right now I think it's got like 80-90k in circulation
They will probably only make an announcement if Yozakura starts selling more. They value their circulation numbers a lot. Hinomaruzumou never got an announcement and Dr. Stone only got it when it reached 2 million and that was only at volume 11.

Over 2 million views in Jump+ app for Kaiju No.8 after only 2 chapters.

This one will sell like hotcakes when the first volume drops.

How do we know its not bots boosting it? It seems suspicious.
Even if 50% of that were bots, that's still 1 million views for 2 chapters. Split that and thats 500k for each chapter. Even if only 20% from the 500k buy the first volume, that will be 100k. That's still pretty darn impressive.
This might turn out to be the biggest hit from WSJ / Jump+ since SxF

I made this post couple days ago

Spy also reached 1 million views for the first few chapters, and it translated to around ~50k first week to 104,136 copies in a month (and still growing to 940k now)

If Kaiju reaches 1/4 of that, it will be top 3 highest selling SJ+ series, and beating out multiple WSJ series

Is there a list of recent first month Jump+ manga sales? I’d love to see a comparison.

Guys, I hate to say this again, but views won't automatically translate into sales. You can take other examples just on Jump+ as well.

Dorei Yuugi: 117MLN views, 74 chapters
Sales? Well, here's the day 1 ranking of its latest volume on shoseki.

440 9784088822686 奴隷遊戯 11 集英社 木村隆志 2020.3.4
Lasted 2 days in top 500. Didn't make top 500 weekly.

Abyss rage: 85.921.268, 79 chapters
Physical sales aren't even there anymore, because physical print did so poorly they just switched to releasing it digital only instead.

Of course they probably sell better digitally (like Rengoku), but sales are probably still nowhere near as good as you'd expect from their views considering neither even has a circulation number released (and Dorei already has 11 volumes out+2 for its sequel, yet still no circulation revealed). This is why I say there is a lot of overreaction going on here. It might turn into a big hit, I'm not saying otherwise, but there is a lot of overreaction going on here.

Oh I agree. I'm just saying that its not wrong to be considering the possibility that maybe even 5-10% of those views can account for sales.
None of it should necessarily mean it automatically does translate that way.

There is the fact that it was also trending.
That said, it doesn't take that much to trend on twitter these days.

The possibility that they translate into sales exists, but the assumption that they will is always wrong when we have seen so many times on Jump+ that it isn't the case. High views doesn't mean high sales, basically, otherwise jump+ would have a lot more big hits than they actually do. It could still be a big hit, my point is that it's bizarre to declare it as one off views.

What do we think the chances are of Burn the Witch starting in #35 to replace Haikyuu? Obviously makes sense that the magazine would go back down to 20 series but with Me and Roboco possibly having a lower page count than normal and Burn the Witch as a mini-series I wouldn't be shocked if it starts on its own before the next round of new series.

I was thinking maybe that, like Burn the Witch has longer chapters while Roboko has shorter

Burn The Witch is supposed to be starting very soon since we're already on Summer in Japan.

I agree that correlating views to manga sales is bizarre as there's many factors that goes into view counts (i.e botting views, reading multiple times, etc.). We don't know how they count their views too.

That said, I'm rooting for Kaiju and I think it could be a hit depending on how the series develops in the upcoming chapters. Even a 30k seller is still quite the hit for Jump+ standards

I think Burn the Witch's spot depends on how long it's planned to be.

Dr Stone Reboot took a spot in the magazine and it was 9 chapters long, as did The Comiq which I think was 7 chapters long. If it's 6+ chapters like those it'll most likely get its own spot for the run, but if it's just a short 3-4 chapter thing like the newbie mini-series we used to see it might not.

I think it will do pretty well, ofc not going to say it will be a new SxF and yes views don't reflect in sales and blah blah blah, but Kaiju has all the ingredients to become a hit seller, it looks and feel modern and refreshing, it's very mainstream for the japanese public in terms of theme, all different than series like Abyss and Dorei that looks more like is supposed to be in a seinen magazine from Shogakukan or Kodansha.

I expect the first to volume to sell at least higher than Mashle, which is pretty good for Plus standards

30k is a hit for jump standards as well.

I am pretty curious about how long Burn the Witch will be. It exists to give more content for a movie to adapt, so I think 1 volume is a pretty reasonable expectation and that's normal length for WSJ mini-series.

The oneshot was ~60 pages I think, so if it fills 1 regular sized volume it'd need 6 chapters at ~20 pages, or 4 chapters at ~30 pages. Though of course volumes can vary in size so we could see just 3 chapters or even 10+.

You should write that everything that comes after "08/05 Kimetsu no Yaiba Vols. 1-11" is going to be stored by the magazine. Everything until that is going to be completely distributed to stores.

Dr. Stone's slow and gradual growth from where it was is reminding me of World Trigger.
The most amusing part about Dr. Stone's growth is that a variety show mention did more to it than the anime itself lol.
