Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Vast majority of series get most of their exposure from anime. That said, there are always a select few that tend to get more exposure from sources outside the anime and this could be for a variety of reasons.

I'm assuming Dr. Stone's anime is passable at best (I haven't seen it but that's the general reception I've gathered from this forum). So a popular talk show that does a better job in making the series look enticing would definitely be providing more exposure. This happened with Kingdom as well which had a poor anime.

AC on the other hand had almost peaked out it's exposure prior to the anime due to all other forms of mentions and features. When the anime came (I've been told it was a decent/good adaptation), it didn't increase the sales by the percentage we typically see from a popular WSJ manga.
SxF could well be following AC's path. It might get close to reaching its full peak prior any anime adaptation.
I feel SxF’s peak might be higher than AssClass, if only because it has a wider appeal with its premise. When it does get an anime, I think it will do better than AC in terms of exposure and boost.

To be honest, it's anyone's guess. xD
I hope it grows exponentially with the anime. Imagine seeing two OP caliber series (KnY and SxF) within just a few years of each other. Also imagine the whining about the weekly sales charts being boring.

But I'm cautious about expecting any major growth. We shall see, I guess.

I dont recall AssClass making the charts boring, and it seems unlikely the same would happen for SxF if its anime comes as soon as people want (fall or winter this year), and not at the end of its life cycle where all these legacy volumes would clog the charts like KnY. KnY is, while good for this year, just shows how much money WSJ left on the table for the past few years (consider now its playing catch up with all this merchandise its trying to get out but cant cause Making Product is slow (example, video game on ps4 is coming so late) and you dont know if its a fad, and the loss in all the years worth of Live Events w cast, Radio shows, roadshows, CDs, collaborations with all sorts of media through the years, Stage Plays, Live Actions, like Haikyuu!!, AssClass, and others have gotten throughout their manga lifetimes) it will ultimately be interesting to see if no manga but only an ongoing anime (hopefully????) can keep it afloat like Naruto Shippuden has remained a thing even now (with new arts and merchandise and games) even in the age of Boruto.

SxF could also just crater. (didnt that happen to magi, i recall, incredibly strong start, declined precipitously to irrelevance at the end of its lifetime).

Doesn’t matter how big the increase it will be, I’m fairly optimistic it will beat AC’s numbers in terms of boost in one way or another.

I don't recall Kingdom or Slam Dunk backlog made the sales charts boring before.
KnY is an unique case, which has its backlog hog top 30 positions for like fucking forever.

I said - OP caliber sales, which means you'll see constant growth for months till it eventually peaks out. Meaning how many ever volumes there are at that time for SxF would all probably feature in the charts constantly.
Any other level of growth doesn't apply to what I said.

Pretty sure NO ONE expected KNY to explode the way it did. So any plans to make it into a huge media franchise probably didn't exist until mid-end last year. S8 and the money they invested into trying to promote that also probably put them on the backfoot.
So there really isn't much to blame WSJ for. Games and all other media spin-offs and adaptations they could do would take time to make. And then COVID 19 also hit this year. So, while WSJ has been slow in trying to capitalize on KNY's franchise, they aren't completely at fault for being caught surprised either. Everyone was surprised with KNY's growth.
It's different with something like HQ and AC which were all big before the anime even hit, meaning WSJ knew they had a strong franchise in their hands. It gave them ample time to get things rolling.

Curiously enough, Dr.Stone is actually a good adaptation.
It just didn't catch fire.

Was it? I remember people calling it a slideshow anime. I could be wrong.

Question, which is the greatest slideshow anime adaptation from WSJ? Basically a low budget anime adaptation that was actually solid.

Probably Dr.Stone(though despite the lack of a lot of movement, I still don’t think it’s low budget).

Say what you want about the animation, but the art, the backgrounds, the soundtrack, and the voice acting are top notch. The only thing keeping it from being a great adaptation instead of a “it’s okay enough” adaptation is the lack of character movements

Dr. Stone is a huge slideshow. It didn't help that the first few arcs are slow and are more science class than science adventure.

Also, an anime being a slideshow fest doesn't necessarily mean they had a low budget. They might have had tight schedule, the animators weren't allowed much freedom, the production wasn't able to recruit talented animators, etc.

looks like it has new translators. Kinda weird Manga+ bothered since I'm sure this deal wasn't done in 6 days never mind translation

That was fast! Looks like we're getting the original name, and all chapters available! I wonder how this will affect the MANGA Plus release.
With over 2M+ views on this thread alone, I do have to wonder if Viz/M+ Staff are secretly spying on us. :ninja

Especially, you know, the whole debate about the localized name.

Viz probably decided to pick up the license when work for Chapter 1 was already done, hence first releasing that and later leaving all the rest of the work to Viz. The same translator says it was a lot of work with short notice. Basically:

1. Shueisha offers Kaiju 8 to Medibang and Mediado
2. Both of these companies ask English and Spanish translators if they want to work in the series
3. English says no, Spanish decides to do it
4. Popularity increases, English side decides to work on it
5. After having done chapter 1 and rescheduling the series, Viz decides to pick up the license for themselves
6. Viz will now release everything else

that makes sense. The name change is kinda weird as well unless Newkerzy's theory is right 👀

That certainly makes the release of ch 1 on Manga+ odd. Perhaps it was just a quickly produced teaser while they wait for Viz to catch up?

That or Manga+ will keep up the slow one by the new group and not have the viz version, like how they don't run MHA Vigilantes in English despite Viz being up-to-date.

The Vigilantes thing is not that hard to figure out, since there are only a few possibilities.
1. Shueisha asks official licensors (Viz and Planeta) to upload the series voluntarily to MANGA Plus, with Viz refusing and Planeta accepting. Then Shueisha asks freelancer teams if they want to work on it (or not), and they refuse, hence no English series.
2. Planeta, the official Spanish licensor, asks to add the series to the platform as well as their other added series, Tegami Bachi, voluntarily to increase the catalog.

None of the licensors will ever get paid or get income from MANGA Plus as we have known for a while already and thanks to different interviews with those same licensors, so in the end it will all keep being voluntary.
