Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I think ghostwriter cover is kinda bad as well. Main issue is the logo being flat while rest of the cover is from a top down angle. Tbh, kinda nitpicking, but when compare to the rest of this cover batch, you can see it clearly, with the logo is parallel with the background or in the same angle (WNL and Mitama).
I didn't even pay attention to that logo. The logo looks really out of place. I definitely expected a much better cover from the artist, who is insanely talented.

Designing covers for authors? How it is work? Telling them what to draw?
The artist probably draws whatever they want to draw, and the designers probably just do what they can to make it work best as a cover; like placing the logo(or even making the logo), maybe the borders, or or patterns that repeat in the background. And like goes over into other things such as organizing the spine, the back, the inside sleeve, etc
I was surprised at first, but it makes sense when that's one less thing the author has to come up with. And when it's so tied to marketing/presentation, understandable that this design team/the higher-ups would get priority.

Here's their sketch and then Horikoshi's version for #3 2015.

But its only goes for magazine covers I hope? Not for volumes and color pages?

Knowing that the concept of rejected cover exists and that some mangaka sometimes include rough sketches of those rejected volume covers on what ends up being the final volume, we could guess there are more people involved in designing volume covers other than the artist and editor themselves. And probably mostly due to the necessity of adding the Jump Comics tag and the placement of other information such a mangaka names, the necessity of designers involved could be a possibility.

Rejected covers proves nothing because it might as well be author who cant decide on which one. I dont thing they are that stupid that cant keep in mind where place logo and names. Using designers for mag cover is understandable though it also gives you idea why they often just boring. Going as far as not having freedom to draw volume covers for you own manga is just sad.

That’s sorta the reality of the publishing industry as a whole

Or their Jump editor rejected the respective cover idea.

Manga+ just updated with ch 2 and 3 of Kaiju #8, by the same people as the first chapter. which could mean Manga+ and Viz will have different translations?

I guess we'll see tomorrow
This is getting weird.

But as you say, we’ll see about that tomorrow, I guess.

Or not. We dont know. Like we didnt know how mag cover done. Now we know. That all just means there is no point in praising or scolding authors for magazine covers.

Real life is harsh, my friend.

Drawing volume cover is a collaborative effort, with design, detail, logo and pose came from studio, art by the mangaka and approval by the editor.

All you need is basic reading comprehension when reading these pages

Can anyone offer a plausible explanation for why the fuck they completely changed this panel on the mangaplus version of kaiju no.8 (both in Spanish and English)??? It is kinda important to the story and this expression by Ichikawa doesn't make sense in context

I'm assuming Dr. Stone's anime is passable at best (I haven't seen it but that's the general reception I've gathered from this forum).
Dr Stone late night slot was terrible and didn't help it either

Question, which is the greatest slideshow anime adaptation from WSJ? Basically a low budget anime adaptation that was actually solid.

That was fast! Looks like we're getting the original name, and all chapters available! I wonder how this will affect the MANGA Plus release.
Chad Kaijuu vs Virgin Monster

Bone collection surprised me, whoever looks at it doesn't imagine it's a comedy manga.
that's because it isn't
not intentionally anyway :3c

It is about magazine cover. And the more I think about the more it makes sense that it is decided by editorial. Magazine is their territory after all. It also explains why they are so generic. But volume covers might be very different even in one series. Beside you dont need to know much about manga to make design for mag cover. But you need to know a lot to make particular volume cover. Does that means designers have to read manga ongoing? Maybe young authors do have to consulate with designers but I cant imagine someone beside Oda came up with 92 volume cover.

Its common for the publishing industry as a whole makes complete sense.
The cover not only has to well represent the content of the book, but also needs to be something interesting enough to pull in sales.

Sometimes the mangaka themselves won’t have the best idea for those sort of thing. It’s likely that a team would say something like “Hey I know you want to put Mirko on the cover, but the highlight of this volume is the Twice and Hawks fight. So you might want to make the cover something illustrating that”.

And also, illustrators and graphic designers aren’t jobs that always go hand and hand. There are some illustrators that can make a great design layout. But a lot of illustrators don’t have a good concept of logo making, and creating the overall layout of a book. Which is where a designer comes in.

You know, I see why you picked that as an example, because it's very likely that that's what happened.

Speaking of MHA's Mirko, would you guys say that she's made the series more popular, even if only a little?

TPGW title looks so out of place on the cover. The title of TPGW looks like word art you'd use for a school project in elementary school lmao
