No, I think One Piece was attainable 38m isn't that much for a series with about 50 volumes at the time it blew up (less than 1m per volume), 70m is literally insane with 20 volumes. I really don't see it happening..
"Attainable" lol, I hope you realise the closest anyone ever got in over a decade to OP before KnY exploded was AoT with a little less than 16mln. That's not even half of OP's record.

Nobody thought an OP 2011 explosion was going to repeat again. A lot of people were convinced that the best you could hope for nowadays was to pull MHA numbers for a battle shonen. Ironically, despite the fact that the bar has been set much higher, it's easier to see it happen again now that those beliefs have been smashed.

So imagine if the closer to 38m was 16m (22m difference) now the closer to 65m (Will most likely surpass 70m when year end) is a 27m sales difference with the previous record. KNY is now the Michael Jackson's Thriller of manga year.

But unlike kny, one piece was already a one milion seller before it blew up(1.5 milion to be exact), and its blowing up extended into 5 years(2009,2010,2011, 2012,2013),and after that returning to normal levels (not exactly normal but a bit higher)

Also people quite underasstimate what being a 1.5 milion seller means, thats near the peak for attack on titan, and above naruto level popularity(1.3-1.1 milion copies per volume).

It isn't easy to become a 1 milion seller, that's why Kny is considered an anamoly(one piece to a lesser degree) , hell breaking the 1 milion copy per volume is extremly hard(correct me if I am wrong) and it rarer to stay at that level of popularity (like naruto and its consistent 1.2 milion copies).

It's possible another hit could reach this levels, but it's hard to predict.

I just want those 3.5 million fans to check out other manga (not just Jump, other series from other mag too). I'm surprised it hasn't happened tbh. These folks go in the book store grab 21 volumes of kimetsu and dib. :emocat

Top50 first time! Nicely done, UU! Hope to see it break 20k with volume 4 next time which it might do if it has more days to sell.
SxF is just insane. 350k+ in 3 days, wow, just wow. This must be one of the series which got anime offers from volume 1 like in TPG.^^

Roughly 18k in 3 days? Not terrible but yeah certainly could've done better, and definitely not as big as Mashle.
Yeah, someone said around 18.5k for UU is more likely in 3 days and considering its past 4-5 days sales would not be bad of a result. Would have liked 20k in the first week but 3 days is hard to do so and considering the increase in sales on monday it does feel like sales are generally low on the weekend in Japan.

Ay I called it, 18k for UxU.
Grats, now call for 81k so that we can start worshipping you for new series prediciton sales once that prediction comes true. xD

#182 for 1 and #185 for 2.
So slightly better than 2.5 Seduction 6 and that position is around 1k-1.5k sales or 2k or so? Still nice for a daily sale for the older volumes.

Which makes SxF even more of a crazy anomaly as it has over 5 million copies out already and its first couple volumes are already past 1 million sales with no anime to have boosted it.

Hope that means Yozakura got one more year in it. I'd like that for the mangaka after reading Poro's diaries and realizing there are no english translations of it after chapter 1. That's just sad though a lot of the U19 series suffer of the past years suffer from that fate. The M+ translation will prevent that from happening agaín though.

Technocity777 translated some parts of Tozuka recent interview here some few main highlights:

-UU was originally going to be about Andy and Fuuko escaping the Union, but his editor told him to try something else

-He didn't want Fuuko to just be a heroine figure or a reward, so he's trying write her character as best he can

-He made the pacing in UU very fast so that it could compete with other manga in the magazine, and so he could get to the interesting parts faster

-Tozuka says that you can do a lot of theory crafting with UU, but it's also enjoyable as just a battle manga or a romantic comedy

Then I think One Piece will have cover and lead color pages in issue #43 to promote Volume 97, Artbook 9 and OP Magazine 10 release. Last year One Piece had cover and lead color pages in issue #44, so it's possible.

I don't think so. Last two times OP had a break and then came back with a cover (like this case would be if issue 43 was a OP cover) we had a message at the end of the chapter saying "OP will be back with cover". This wasn't the case (Also, for example, My Hero Academia also got a lot of bunch happening last week (main manga volume, Vigilantes volume, and light novel 5 volume triple release) and we are getting a Chainsawman cover, not a MHA cover).

Plus we have Jujutsu Kaisen anime happening. Issue 43 is 99% going to be Jujutsu Kaisen to promote the anime starting the following week.

PS: Today is the day My Hero Academia movie 2 is finally coming to Spain cinemas

Considering the spoilers for next chapter, yep, that dude is FAST with his series. I would have never predicted that as next step of the story, real shocker to me.

Best news to wake up to. Really happy to see Mashle get more love from the magazine and it's a cover and a LCP. Crossing fingers for some great stuff from Koumoto. Good for Undead Unluck as well. But I'm really curious about the second part, I wonder if they already have some in mind or if they are riding on expectations.

Oh Nakano... New generation just two manga?
I mean, it does say part 1 and those are undoubtedly their biggest hits since Chainsaw Man.

It totally makes sense with the last chapter, things went by way too fast and it feels like the series is going to reach the big battles already.

They'd be damned if they don't give Jujutsu Kaisen the cover before the anime starts airing. If they don't do it on issue #43, they'd have to do it on issue #46 and 3 episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen would have already aired by then. And as Mankichi said, One Piece usually gets an editor note on the chapter before a break saying it will get the cover and the LCP on the issue it comes back.

Personally, I don't see UU's sales as really bad, they just cool down very quickly and Vol.3 might be the first to stay in the top500 Shoseki Sale estimate for a whole month while after the reward both Vol1 and 2 returned to Top500 and stayed there since a while now.

Undead Unluck, first Week volume sales

Volume 1 (3 days): 7610 copies

Volume 2 (4 days) 13521 copies

Volume 3 (3 days) 17934 copies

Mashle, first Week volume sales

volume 1 16k (4 days)

volume 2 24k (6days)

So far UU has yet to get a 5-6 day sale week. With 3 more days I am more than certain that UU would get over 20k sold volumes, probably close to 25k. It just had a slower start than Mashle and that ain't a crime, AA also needed some time to reach 30k sales from what I remember, could be wrong though.

The Editor Tozuka got is pretty good though, he must have made that suggestion to the story direction change early on like chapter 3-4, considering when Shen's offer happened which led to Andy and Fuuko joining Union. Also given that Void actually had a background story and character design and everything it seems like originally he was not supposed to die and Union would have been the "hunter of the week" for a while as Andy and Fuuko travel worldwide using Andy's hideouts and weapon arsenals everywhere. I like this Union direction more, the Union characters are memorable and I like the buddy/family feeling they got while also being shared goal which allows them to accept killers of former members among their midst as long as they help them achieve their End goal.

I suspect we will get to the "midpoint" of the story at chapter 50 or so. UU might run like 150-200 chapters in total before it is finished at its current pace.

Another possibility might be an MHA-like pacing. I mean, we certainly didn’t expect to get AM vs the Big Bad within the first 100 chapters. Horikoshi was writing the first saga as if his life depended on it, even though he was already more than stable enough at that point. Once we got into the second saga, things slowed down a bit, and Horikoshi was clearly trying out different things, with mixed results as he had more confidence in himself and the series. Even then, the pacing was pretty fast compared to other series, in past or present, as it built up to a large payoff arc which is currently happening now.

I was wondering if those two would get the cover soon. WSJ's been fine on covers recently since there's been tons of new series but, now that there'll be a bigger gap before the next batch, they don't quite have enough older series to use on the covers without frequent repeats.

Which is why I'm wondering if WNL might get the cover when the final route starts in #46.

Editor note announcing cover and lead color pages not always appears. For example, in chapter 948 they announced the break but not cover and color pages for the return (and it was One Piece 22nd anniversary in that case :XD)

But I'm with Mankichi and you, probably cover and lead color pages will be for Jujutsu Kaisen. I didn't remember its Anime when I wrote my last post :sweatbunny

I'd love so much for My Hero Academia to get another cover this year, but with Hori's health I see it difficult. But since a lot of big hits are over, who knows.

I just hope Shigaraki makes his debut in a Jump cover. Overhaul and the villain of the MHA movie 2 got covers. Time for Shiggy to also get one.

I wonder how 2021 will be. MHA is now in that frontier between very succesful Jump manga of its age and Jump mega-hit that will live for generations.
