Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Jujutsu, Chainsaw Man, Mash, Undead..
Can they carry the magazine in the same way One Piece or any other of the Big Three did? The only one I see being able to do that is MHA and JJK maybe for the future.

I can see Mashle and Undead being successful titles, but not at that level.

I do not read CSM, but I read multiple times here that the conclusion may not be too far.

Jumps clout alone will carry it. Lets leave it at that

I'm confused by some users here who think that One Piece will get cancelled or rushed if it dips below a certain amount of sales. Do you guys not follow WSJ properly?

Even if One Piece lasts another 15 years and sells as low as 50k a volume, it'll still be allowed to run in the magazine until Oda wants to end it. Why? Because its One Piece, the best selling manga of all time, the one that broke records and the one that remained WSJ's biggest pillar for close to 3 decades.

Like, why is this even up for debate!? To quote Mash
This!
Even I am among the biggest haters of OP in this thread, there are only 2 scenarios that OP would be cancelled against author will: Oda falls into a condition worse than Togashi that he can't even continue serialising even with hiatus x hiatus level of serialisation, or Oda commits an immoral irredeemable crime (remember act-age). Both scenarios are pretty much unlikely in any foreseeable circumstances, so nah. A more realistic thought experiment would be when will OP end naturally, 1500 or 2000 chapters.

Far more of a reasonable possibility than OP being "cancelled". I'll tell you that.
Yes that is definitely true

Lel, don't know why i feel you're shitposting ironically.

About OP being canceled or buried, it's literally impossible just because it has lower sales than when it was at its peak more than a decade ago. Also chapter 1k is coming and probably will be shilled and then recover again.

What it seems unlikely to me, its getting brand new readers...probably readers that dropped it long time ago and will give it a chance or anime watchers picking it up because of the chapter 1k hype.

Agreed.

New readers are unlikely.
OP's biggest potential would be gaining back some of those casual readers who dropped it in the long run.

Technically, One Piece's biggest potential are new manga / anime fans in the rest of world but lets keep it to Japan for now.

New readers are sort of a mixed bag.

I see enough new people behind in arcs like Arlong Park and Thriller Park spoiling themselves of the newest opening on YouTube. Which baffles me as the content in said opening covers some big game changing stuff in Wano.

What a funny mix of recent discussions.

Weekly Shonen Jump is the best-selling magazine in Japan and any decrease in circulation is largely an industry-wide trend.

One Piece is the best-selling manga of all time and a narrative that paints it as falling from grace is simply incorrect.

Now can we predict far more important (and likely) things, like whether Me & Roboco will be in the top 5 of the TOC? (fingers crossed)

Best selling manga, yes. Best selling manga franchise is Dragon Ball.

I think Roboco will be in the middle of the toc.

This is all assuming the live action series is actually good. Given the track record with anime live actions, everything is stacked against it. However, the leaked script of episode 1 and the attitude from the writers have been getting a lot of respect in the One Piece community. And it’s seems like the series is definitely movie forward and won’t be in development hell

If the live action Netflix series turns out being good, I can see it getting a huge boom in western countries that it didn’t receive when the anime first arrived in the West

Despite community respect, I just don't feel that One Piece can translate well into live-action. Of all popular comic series, this is the one I can't see working. The different islands, gags, and characterization just aren't meant for live-action. How would the Merry scene work in live-action? I'll be surprised if it gets to Arlong Park. It definitely has the odds against it considering the anime has flopped several times. I hope I get proven wrong.

Don’t get me wrong. Regardless of how good the live action may be, I don’t think it’ll ever be as good as the manga, or even the anime, unless it has a budget of $300 Million per episode.

But there’s a huge crowd of ppl out there who aren’t into “nerd stuff” like comics/manga, and anime/cartoons, because they write it off as being childish and for geeks; but will be fully on board if said series gets a live action film or tv series.

I have relatives and peers who will look at me weirded out when they see me reading a Batman comic book, saying “you still read that stuff........”. But will be hyped when they see who the next A List actor to play Batman will be.

I doubt the live action series will get a lot of westerners picking up manga volumes. But if it’s really good and gets the same level of hype other Netflix originals get, One Piece will probably gain a huge fanbase from ppl who would never pick up the manga or watch the anime.
And it could probably attract that large amount of ppl who are anime fans, but are hesitant to jump into One Piece because of its length. The live action series presents a fresh start to the franchise that they can be a part of with everyone else, and ween them into the manga and anime

I know you you guys don't like YouTubers being mentioned in this thread but let is slide. During Rogers Base reverie love stream, he and the other top One Piece content creators got to speak directly to Matt Owens who is the writer of the live action. Lets just say its in good hands.

Maybe we can see a boost for OP in the west after it drops ehhh ehhh 🥴

Still doesn’t mean it is a 100% chance it will be good. Just like @savethecat said this is a high fantasy battle manga. Not to the degree of dragon ball (at least in the beginning), but still would need a very high budget to look good nonetheless. I actually would rather seen dr stone as a live action adaptation than one piece.

Nah, the go-to-guy for Luffy has to the legend Justin Chatwin. After his groundbreaking and utterly iconic portrayal of Goku in Dragon Ball Evolution, it is clear that no one but him could do Luffy justice :cheez
