All volumes from a series sold in a single week and yes, it's a boost for Jujutsu Kaisen, it's the first time it has ever sold over 300,000 copies in a single week.
Quartet Knights numbers are added too? if not this is a pretty good 2nd week for BC, even if discounting backlog, vol 26 probably sold more than vol 25 in it 2nd week (63k)
- Overprinted volumes
- Overpromotion that didn't pay off
- Decreasing sales
- Bottom of the ToC for most of its run
- Info dump and relatively unpolished art that didn't please a considerable share of the readers
I’ll put it this way then. I’ll never understand these things happening in the first place. The art only got better and the info dump stopped being a thing pretty early. Plus, I’m pretty sure info dumps aren’t anything new. Why hasn’t every series that uses it gotten cancelled? People are really hostile towards S8 and anyone who enjoyed it aren’t they? So weird. Always ready to tell them that nobody likes it and that’s it’s bad. Like I said, I thought this place was devoid of haughty no it alls. But I should know better. Most anime and manga fans fancy themselves 5 star critics.
Not sure why it's hard to understand that the milking of the franchise that Kishimoto made can affect his reputation especially when it's acting like a direct sequel.
Just like how spin offs can positively affect the main title (and Kishi's reputation), it can also negatively impact the main title.
About S8s cancellation, others have already answered that.
Milking of a franchise? What does that even mean? Why would you get angry at a series for continuing? If you don’t care, then just leave it alone. How do you see it as a negative? Fans want more of a series they loved. I remember people were asking for a sequel series with the characters in their “The Last” incarnations.
And I don’t know where you’re getting your info from, but nobody stopped being a fan of Naruto if they disliked Boruto. They just insult Boruto then go on and on about how much more they like Naruto. You guys like making up your own narratives, don’t you?

Not talking about anyone in special but yes, hostility towards S8 isn't anything new, even if some pretend they're not being that way when talking about it, you can totally sense it kkkk

Except GT (like Boruto it wasn't written by Toriyama) started very shortly after the Z anime ended and ended up being a disappointment which damaged the brand to the point where we got no new Dragon Ball material outside budget video games for a decade.
Except this is a false narrative. You’re crazy if you think Dragon Balls popularity ever waned because of GT. When Super or the new movies came out, nobody was saying the series has been redeemed. People just didn’t like GT, but they didn’t start to to dislike the series as a whole. You sure you guys just don’t desperately want these popular authors to start getting bad reputations and hate? Because it seems that’s what you’re kinda pushing for... I’ve yet to see anyone say they dislike Naruto or Dragon Ball because of Boruto and GT respectively. That’s just idiocy.
What an ironic name. But that’s usually how your type likes to see themselves. You guys really aren’t helping your case here. What a rude awakening. I actually had a semi-favorable look on this place. But I guess it is just another forum.

By the time the art got better it was too late, not to mention any important moment (safe for one) didn't feel compelling. The info dump never stopped, just read the second to last chapter. Kishimoto had plenty of interesting ideas but he never executed them in a proper way. And Samurai 8 got cancelled because it's circumstances were very peculiar, Jump bet too much on the series and they didn't get what they wanted in return. These are facts.

Yeah, it’s strange. I can understand not liking it, as I don’t like a majority of the magazine right now. But people really want to put down S8 every chance they get, which is why I really believe in my earlier theory of both Naruto fans and detractors hating on S8 so it doesn’t reach Naruto’s popularity. What helps this theory is some even saying how they don’t like that it got special treatment because of its big author. I doubt it’s the sole reason, but I believe it’s a bigger reason then they’d like to believe. They don’t want to see those in top go any higher... which makes me wonder. I know he said he wouldn’t do one, but I can only imagine the vitriol that a new series from Oda would get. You can bet your bippy One Piece fans would exclaim on how it’ll never be better than One Piece.

The only fact was your last sentence. The art got much better during Ata’s fight, and the manga was filled with nothing but compelling moments. I already know you dismiss everything about the series, but Hachi and his dad’s relationship was sweet. Ann not being able to see Hachi as anything else but her brother was compelling. The town where kids got the name “Nanashi” was compelling. Nanashi herself was compelling. The gradual gathering of the Samurai was super compelling, and Ichigo would’ve been something exciting to see, as she was apparently the greatest one. And idk if it was just me, but I always had a sneaking suspicion that Ann was going to take up the main character role at some point. It just felt right. I didn’t even have to reach for any of this stuff. It was all right there, but people seem to think things getting explained to them is grounds for dismissing an entire story. Better cancel Hunter x Hunter next, cuz lord knows those newer chapters especially love to explain what’s going on.
People just didn't want to buy the volumes because they weren't a fan of it. I don't think that means there was hostility towards S8. It's reasonable that they axed it when it's sales were going down from Jump's view, so idk what you are trying to get at. If people don't like the series, it does not mean they are hostile to it. Just accept that people were not a fan of it (once again doesn't mean they are hostile towards it), and you can't force people to buy the volumes.
If you still don't agree, then explain why you think S8 should have lived (not because you like it, but from a logical view) since you said before it didn't deserve the axe?

I think the past few pages alone prove people were hostile towards it. It’s kind of sad that you apparently have to have been a fan of it to see it, when it’s so plainly seen. You guys love to bring “logic” into things, but then you say stuff like this...
Ok but, from a logical stand point, why you think it should have survived? Try to think in a rational way rather than being a hardcore fan. All the comments you posted are mostly complaining about why people have opinions or providing facts about what you asked. (excluding the it's shit comment of course).

Well first off, I have no hostility towards the series. I haven't even read it and I don't really care to so I'm pretty neutral on this. But that isn't the point. How is it hostile just because a person doesn't like a series. Can people not voice an opinion? I didn't see people say "look at the hostility towards Bone Collection or GOTW" on this forum. S8 is clearly a disaster, and it is not because people were hostile to it, it is because people didn't like it. The people on this forum who are saying it's bad just don't like it. You can't have everyone loving your manga.
I know you are a fan of it but you are acting as a fan who blames others for the series doing poorly. You still didn't answer when I asked why do you think it should have lived?
There was plenty of hostility towards Samurai 8, i can talk because i followed the reactions and opinions in many places during it almost 1 year of serialization, and precisely when it was clear the series wasn't a "success" many came out of the woods with a pretty obnoxious attitude towards it, trashing both the manga and Kishimoto for "flopping", some were definitely using Samurai 8 low sales as a scapegoat to talk shit about Kishimoto since talking shit about Naruto today got out of style and it was a mega hit seller, even that "famous" Bleach fanboy that has a YT channel was literally making fun of the cancelation on Twitter specially because the "Shonen Jump dumped Kishi for Kubo" narrative, that narrative that resulted in threads on the Bleach reddit making fun of the cancelation, so there was quite the "cheering" for Samurai 8 and Kishimoto failing, ofc it wasn't like a overwhelming sentiment because the series had the fans and the people who just didn't bother, but also had the haters + Naruto/Kishi haters taking advantage of the series flopping.
Alright, I guess I can see there is hostility but it's more like a loud minority hating on it. Every series has haters, and the people cheering the axe are toxic. However Dag said people where hostile here tho, comparing it to twitter which I think is incorrect (at least rn, as I don't see many people saying they are happy that S8 got cancelled publicly here).

Any news on the ToC? Expecting it early this week, since the magazine is. Usually would have had the cover by now, too, considering it's a One Piece cover.
47: Dr.Stone (new arc)
48: Black Clover (new development)
49. My Hero Academia? (nothing new maybe, or maybe new arc starting, but I mainly put it for elimination since it would be the only important manga with no cover post-number 40. And we all know WNL is likely not going to get covers anymore).
I'm 100% sure about Dr.Stone getting next cover. Issues 48 and 49 and MHA stuff are the things I'm not sure.
Random, but whenever I look through old TOCs and Old Covers going all the way back to the 70s, I always find it crazy that since Jump’s inception the Magazine’s mascot has always been a pirate.
As a kid I use to think that probably became a thing after One Piece became huge. But it feels like t was almost destiny that the Magazine’s biggest manga would be a pirate series
It's not that hard to understand
If you expected to sell 200,000 and turn out only 20,000 then it's a flop
But the same 20,000 with the expectation of 10,000 then it's a success.
