Oh I don't disagree. I adore that movie.I personally thought it was fine. On the technical merit side, I think they deserved it. It also helps that they have good storyboarding and direction, but most of all, for an adaptation, it doesn’t make newcomers feel lost in the midst of things, whereas the Mugen train would require prior viewing of the last season. That’s why I think Spiderverse wins out here.
Granted, purists will complain, but for what it’s worth as a self-contained movie, I enjoyed it.
I'm just going against the notion that Kimetsu's S1 requirement is why it didn't get nominated. You think the grandpa Academy voters knew about any of the previous lore of spiderverse when awarding it? Nope.
There are tons of threads and questions in spiderverse that are technically unanswered if you don't include the known things about that universe (which the movie doesn't explain). It didn't stop it from getting awarded.
Spiderverse worked with it's intended crowd, people already familiar with that universe. Not newcomers to this lore.
Same with Kimetsu.
That's my point.
Honestly, I don't care about Kimetsu not getting nominated because I knew it was a long shot. Had an American company made the exact same Kimetsu movie, it'd have gotten nominated without doubt.
But people using this opportunity to go "Heh, you think Kimetsu deserved a nomination. Kek" under the assumption that Oscars or any American award shows are based on actual merit, deserves to get clapped back with facts.
Anyway, this is getting off topic now. So I'm gonna stop.
