Stivie, Beelzebub wasn't any mega hit and Hungry Marie was a flop in sales and rankings, you can be sure Shonen Jump did not expected even half of what Ayakashi Triangle did since Yabuki is a larger successful artist than Tamura and didn't had a flop serialized few years ago, isn't a comparable situation.
Still, beelzebub was a manga that lasted about 240 chapters, and that is no small feat.
even though hungry marie was a failure, that doesn't change the fact that Corp and doulphin should have done so much more. Tamura is not a newbie shinuke.

It’s impossible for us to know what Jump’s expectations for Cop and Dolphin.

If I had to guess, I’d imagine they do probably expect it to do more than your typical newbie. But I highly highly doubt they have the same expectations they have for Ayakashi Triangle. Yabuki has multiple successes under his belt

Beelzebub peak sales ~ BC peak sales. And Beelzebub was a comedy-battle manga. It's 300k 297k sales (or 250k to 300k if you want to get really picky) was definitely big for the type of series it was.
Hungry Marie also sold more than Cop and Dolphin.

I do think WSJ probably would have a reduced min. expectation from Tamura after HM's failure but I certainly don't think selling as much as Robocco or Agravity is what they had in mind.

Cop and Dolphin's sales are not decent by any measure. Heck, neither are any of the other newbies. Only difference for all of these is that the magazine is in a weaker state right now.
So literally anything around that range can probably last a few volumes until WSJ gets some bigger hits.

I think if Cop and Dolphin had done more than mashle or undead unluck (maybe 25K), and had a reprint it would be good.

Cop and Dolphin is clearly underperforming. Keeping series on the roaster like C&D or HSF just because they are from veterans make WSJ a weaker and less exciting magazine...

Beelzebub wasn't a 300k seller, peak of it sales was 297k in a entire year at volume 5

We're really going to start this "what is decent or not"? at this point is more than clear that 10k is the decent/survive line for WSJ, specially for newbies, that Cop & Dolphin "could" do better, that's obvious, but if for Shonen Jump the series is underperforming, for sure the signs would be all there in the ToC for a while, the series would be much probably stuck in the bottom because they think it flopped and etc, but is doing pretty decent, which implies that they don't see as a flop, Hungry Marie lived in the bottom for basically the entire run after flopping in sales

Especially when at that moment when you lost 5 series that sold more than 100K and now you can lose 2 more series.

New thread, hell yeah! Last one got really large, let's see if we can get this one to 2k pages though I doubt it will get there because 2020 was so full of surprises, scandals and epic record breaks that we had a ton to talk about non-stop. Maybe 2021 will be a bit quieter, I at least hope so. As for the WSJ release:

JjK: Awesome cool fights as always.

MHA: Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm~ I am really starting to pity the bad guys, they just can't take a break even with so many Aces in their hand.^^;

OP: Zoro a cool, Sanji..... well, not so cool.

Mashle: More elites to be crushed by MUSCLE MAGIC. Common sense (or at least what counts as common sense in this magical world) has no hold over Mash.

BC: Not reading.

SD: Pretty cool moves there, the wife obviously is the one with the pants on in the relationship. I guess with those rules most hitmen missions are a bust for future arcs.

DS: That was close! Senku and co escaped by a hair.

Magu-chan: Cute date. <3 <3 <3

BK: Would have liked to know who lives in that house and puts his clothes out to dry in a HURRICANE! Anyway the continent has been reached and the port looks pretty sweet. Maybe a Build King is already close by?

MYF: Well, that's one way to get trained.^^

M&R: One of the weaker Roboco chapters for me.

AT: All hail Queen Suzu! Matsuri will be a knight now, a Ninja-Exorcist-Knight, lol. Also this means we gonna get to see more friendly and "grey" Ayakashi where Suzu's Queen duties might clash with Matsuri's Exorcist duties, that will be interesting to watch.

HBC&D: Okay wtf? That house is amazing but no reason to be so mean about it!

WNL: Yawn. the Sensei arc has been surprisingly boring. Never expected to miss Senpai, but yeah, her arc was much more interesting than Fanservice-Sensei.

CSM: DAYUM! Makima knows no chill! That was brutal and gory! Loved their awesome fight!!! <3

HSF: Little sis made her first highschool girlfriends, yay! She really is a very fast learner, poor Papa became the first casualty of her "puberty" phase.

UU: Aww, I don't want the flashback arc to already be over. Seems Fuuko has grown a lot during that time in Post Civil War America. I really liked the last part where Fuuko said those words and realized what that means for her. Same with Andy telling her of his oldest memory and then Fuuko telling him of the future when they will first met. So he wasn't there by chance in chapter 1 but followed the echo of a very old memory? Oh well, onwards to Washington, to the next Andy secret!

MK: OKIIIIIIII!!!! Seriously how many times has this butterfly died by now?^^;

AB: Eh, war okay I guess. Baba is great but Ash not so much.

PS: She's a cutie, but is she a dangerous cutie?

OBO: Well, that was pretty boring. Again.

SxF: AWESOME!!! Loid really can thank Anya and her luck, like she deserves a huge bag of peanuts as reward after this chapter! XD

HPJ: 120 chapters and I haven't read any of them, I really should get to it someday...

And Hungry Marie's sales started out better than Corp and doulphin's. And that already makes Tamura's situation worse.

But Tamura will have plenty of time to improve the manga and have better sales.

The thing is that the WSJ we have in the beginning of 2021 is unfortunately less diverse and exciting than years before.

We've lost thriller-suspense-horror (The Promised Neverland, CSM), spokon (Haikyu!!), action-drama (Kimetsu no Yaiba), romcom (WNL)... and basically now we just have gag and battle manga.

The genres are now really unbalanced and I hope the new series coming on 2021 start bringing again new genres to the roaster.

I agree with that. I mean, look at WSM. We have action-battle (Edens Zero, Fire Force, Shangri-La Frontier), action-drama (Tokyo Revengers), romcoms (Kanojo Okarishimasu, Cuckoo's Fiancee (which has been the 2020 serialized shonen with best sales numbers out all magazines), spokons (Ace of Diamond, Blue Lock), drama-real life (Runway de Waratte, Hitman), etc.

Meanwhile, current Jump roster: action-battle (One Piece, My Hero Academia, Black Clover, Build King, Undead Unluck, Mashle, Yozakura Family, Jujutsu Kaisen, Honomieru Shonen (dunno if catalog JJK and Honomieru here since it has also horror elements. Same for Mashle and Yozakura, they are more like action-battle-humor), gags (Moriking, Roboco, Magu-chan, Higshchool Family), and little more. Ayakashi Triangle is a curious case that I dunno where to catalog, since it feels for me an action battle manga, a romcom and an echi (well, it has way less echi than To Love-Ru or Yuuna).

Actually Sakamoto Family feels original compared with what the roster has now, but dunno. Jump needs spokons and romcoms.

Lol. Alright.
Said 300k for ease of typing but there, corrected.

Cop and Dolphin has been in the bottom 5 - 4 times. Of which it's been in bottom 3 - 3 times and lowest bottom most ranking - 1 time.

It's gotten better rankings in the past 3 issues, sure. But it's DEFINITELY not doing well (and I want it to do well).

Actually it has been out of the bottom for the last 5 consecutive issues.

Doing well WELL isn't, i said is doing decently and that for the moment isn't in any danger, we will see what happens in the next volume and next weeks.

As far as Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin goes, there are a handful of series doing worse or likely to end before it, but it's definitely not doing well either. Selling less than both Me & Roboco and Magu-chan when you'd surely expect it to outperform both doesn't inspire hope for its longevity. It's another series in the magazine where its surviving mainly by virtue of the current lower standards rather than by its own merits.

I'll consider it in serious danger if it fails to increase in sales against its relative newcomers from the same batch and rankings don't maintain where they are at the moment. Things could change, but I'd say Tamura is looking at a mid-2021 end if he doesn't find an audience soon or push the series in a better direction.

It's funny to think how if we still had the veterans that ended in 2020, it would be a real struggle for any of the newcomers to survive. I'd reckon only Ayakashi Triangle, Mashle, and Undead Unluck would be safe, the rest would either be U19 or fighting for only a couple of free spaces in the magazine.

The 4th volume could be filled with extra content, illustrations, etc... Moriking is probably ending in the next batch after the January's double issue along with WNL, CSM and Our Blood Oath...
Moriking's Volume 3 should be covering from chapters 18 to 28 to cover for all the 184 pages it has, being 176 from those chapters. One-shot is not a possibility given it's already included in Volume 2, and we're now into Chapter 31 this week, which would give 3 chapters to Volume 4 and around 48 pages. We still would need 8 more chapters, which would give a span of two months (a bit more due to breaks) in order to reach again 11 chapters that fill enough pages for that volume. I'd love it if it was cut shorter and it got filled with illustrations, or just was made a shorter volume with less than 180 pages, but at this point, it's just hard to expect anything.

Jesus.
So its basically a tag team featuring KNY and JJK. One series takes the top half for bit and tags out for the other series to come in and take the top spots.

Yeah, this basically happened because Kimetsu no Yaiba's reprints only start going out tomorrow and Jujutsu Kaisen just got restocked so Jujutsu Kaisen should stay on top for a few more days.

I think Mashle circulation numbers will come out by January when the 5th volume is out, maybe reach 200k as well.

Also think Phantom Seer would've been in a better position if the series was more of horror mystery rather than horror action. I like it a lot but it hasn't done anything to distinguish itself yet.
