Last week was surprisingly good. Maybe some of these newbies still stand a chance after all.

Ball Parade: Nice chapter again. I like the characters, and the story is going somewhere (I still don’t get why this is rare. You’d think it’d be the first thing to think about when starting a series).

WW: This one was cute for a change. I’m happy for the boy, he needs to be able to relax more.

Mashle:
Kind of fragile for a legendary blessed ancient treasure. Also kind of repetitive after last chapter.

ES: Don’t put your eyeball in someone’s nose, it’s rude. I’m glad they are making plans, but it still feels slow.

HSF: It didn’t make me laugh, but it did make me feel like eating curry.

Build King: Pretty polite for an Eldritch Abomination. But seriously? This poop joke series is now doing political intrigue? And we are STILL getting more exposition and no building? What’s this guy’s editor doing, letting it drag on like this when it should be going out of its way to try and win back the kids?

I tell c: Um, wow. I hate to admit it, but that was actually impressive. Touching in the first part, surprising in the second. And it seems like we’re shifting genres now..? Was this all just an extended prologue?

Dr Stone: Holy shit, I was not expecting that. They’re still leaving an opening, but still. Damn.

Magu: I kinda sympathise with the frustration of the villain. “You’re stupid too?!” was my favourite line.

PS: Oh, tense! And it’d look great in anime form too.

BC: In the beginning I thought the power-up was boring, but then it got pretty cool.

C&D: Hahaha! This was great. I’m really digging all the quips and twists right now.

Sakamoto: Seeing them take the initiative for once was really cool. Shin is still great, they’re lucky to have him (I know he’s a little know-it-all, but that’s allowed when you actually know it all). The ending surprised me.

Yozakura: Wait, so that guy is still alive? Good chapter, but now I’m wondering what their end goal is and why it’s so important.

MHA: Decent chapter (but man, no pressure!). I probably would’ve been more interested if I was a real fan instead of a casual reader.

UU: Again, no pressure! That was definitely interesting, but I am looking forward to a real battle plan, since everything so far is still shrouded in mystery.

AT: I don’t like her. But at least the end result is positive.

M&R: That was lame. I’m sorry.

Ron Kamonohashi: I’m really liking this one right now. Toto stopped screaming, Ron developed some social skills, the eye thing is treated as more than just a gimmick and the cases are still good. Only the number of breaks is getting a bit ridiculous, I hope the writer is okay.

Btw, when did grey hair become the new hype? Judging by the thumbnails on M+, there are 5 grey-haired WSJ protagonists right now, on top of 2 white-haired ones. I know manga hair colours are all over the place, but it’s such a weird choice for young people (well, I guess Andy could be considered old…).

Both of these are incredible, the spread is very rich and full of life, and the way the CP is colored makes it look like anime screenshots instead of a colored manga, I don't know how to describe it but it's something I rarely see and I think it's pretty cool

Grey/white hair means you don't need to use any tones on it, so it's a good fit for a main character who's going to be around almost every chapter.

Blonde works too (super saiyans are blonde for example because Toriyama got tired of drawing Goku's black hair all the time, according to some interview) but tends to be specifically associated with delinquents or foreigners, while grey and white are more ambiguous.

My rank this week. MHA having a really good chapter, Dr.Stone with its best chapter probably ever, and Kowloon having a really really amazing chapter. In the opposite round, Witch Watch this round has been a little plain, I Tell C has been meh for me, and Build King is already smelling to Samurai 8 with how things are going.

I like that Yozakura is mixing things up by having a 2v2 and less of a head-on confrontation, but we'll have to see if it falls into the same pattern the last two fights did

Undead was great, really entertaining fight with some interesting lore bits teased at. Seeing spoil back is nice too

Mashle was good, solid action with a satisfying finishing blow. The usual stuff

Ayakashi was alright, chapter didn't do that much for me, but since it looks like it'll last at least another chapter there's potential for it to be good

Magu was the usual, nice to see more humor after the previous serious chapters

I liked the underwater worldbuilding in Dolphin, but the action didn't do that much for me

Roboco was good, felt a bit weaker than usual but the gag at the end made up for it

Phantom was pretty good, solid stuff as always, elevated even more by the art

HSF was good, I liked that it wasn't focused on school stuff and instead outside of the school, which made it feel refreshing

I really don't know what's going on with Build King now. I don't dislike the idea of the exam getting hijacked, but it feels too early into the exam and throwing too many new concepts, characters, and factions at us. We've hardly got any actual exam content, and now we're jumping into battle stuff with a ton of things I don't care about

Sakamoto was pretty good, nice wrap-up to this arc. Interested to see where it goes from here

Elusive was good, the exaugurated characters are growing on me, and next week should be interesting

I also have no idea what's going on with i tell c right now, felt like it was going a mile a minute and I don't know where it's going. I can't tell if it's in danger and is throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks or if it's supposed to be like this

Witch was good, solid humor but the bit about Moi's fashion sense felt kinda random

Kowloon was great, glad to see it's still interesting even if we're going to be going slow recruiting members for a while. Art impressed me too

JJK was incredible, Chousou is such a MVP. Dr Stone was great too

I Tell C was largely great but then the final pages was like train wreck territory...why would you do this, are you ending soon or something?!

Build King is doing stuff that should be happening in like the 20's and 30s, not the single digits, really just strange storytelling.

Witch Watch chapter was a wash and shouldn't have happened this soon.

Nine Dragon's Ball Parade is the only new one doing sensible storytelling and showing big things happened. Beautiful and emotional.

Elusive Samurai has been on a roll for two weeks in a row, keep it up.

DS: Dang, talking about crispy. No idea how they gonna get outta that situation considering their plan A seems to be failing, but Senku better not betray the hopes Kohaku has put him, so he should get his act together asap.

JjK: Again, cool fights. Still feel a little lost though.

OP: I am not sure this is how treating a virus works but okay... If that ending is real though then that is absolute BS though, so it better be not real.

BC: Not reading.

MHA: Yeah, ofc, a "test", what else. Oh, come on!

MYF: Sis showing off her Matrix equipment. Was a bit boring to read.

WW: First I was like this spell should be illegal, then I was like okay if it is only half of the fashion, then that's fine. Can't make money of it and ruin an entire industry with magic. Moi being a vintage fan was a surprise, not gonna lie.

M&R: SON OF A-, we were this close to greatness, THIS close!!! Jk, Meico gets a chapter with Roboco and it was fun, but cannot crack like top20 fun chapters of M&R so far. Happy she got some growth though.

TES: Ok, the part about worrying about the animal abuse was actually funny considering plagiarism was the deathblow to forgot its name and i tell c is trying hard to make Aioi's love for criminals not something criminal. How does a Japanese Official know what eye conducts are though? And how can you talk through them?

Magu: Was okay SoL.

SD: Was really good, that knife moment, damn, had me for a moment there as well. Hope we get to see a bit more family life though.

NDBP: Nice, some actual Baseball play. Really liked the part with the foot sounds to make a feint, nice detail. Batter looked like a Samurai with his hairstyle change. Obviously he gonna join and he gonna be badass for sure. Also liked how eternal affects like wind can even undo a great hit, doesn't matter how skilled you are, if you are unlucky or the wind simply hates you, your hit was a foul.^^

Mashle: I am not sure an IRON racket is supposed to work like that on a ball, then again I am not a tennis expert so what do I know. Somehow those one-hit finisher fell less satisfying than it does with Saitama. Probably because Saitama can just evaporate monster into a bloody mess and if Mash did the same he became a criminal and ended in magic prison or just get killed. If he can be killed that is. How in hell did he survive all those stab wounds?

i tell c: I like the Novel criminal and I see what Ukon's role is supposed to be which is interesting. I also liked the Novelist making fun of Aioi's love and it is always cruel to tell someone their love is worthless which makes it easier to sympathize for Aioi even if her love targets are a bit... you know, out of the norm. Interesting that even Aioi cannot love a "monster" while being fine loving the worst kinds of criminals who's murder out of jealousy or for their hobby. A real cliche chapter that did some stuff right in my opinion, although I doubt this will save it from getting axed. Only question is if they get U19 axed or managed to rise above it before the axe comes down.

UU: Cool Pokemon fight between Spoil and Burn, really liked their talk and how it gave us more insight in the UMAs. I expected this fight to end in a draw but it seems Spoil's brain ain't spoiled, that was a nice quick thinking of him. Now there's only Billy's answer left to Juiz's question next chapter.

AT: Rochka a cute, a mega cute. More foreign Ayakashi please. Also Suzu a pervert, a mega pervert. No wonder she was all aboard this plan. xDDD

HBC&D: That was a cool explanation for an Underwater city. Rest of the chapter was so-so.

BK: We are already at a 9th color if I understood this chapter correctly? Wtf...this is moving at lighting speed. And where in god's name is the building part???

HSF: This was fun, little sis is 2nd best character after dad and her and big bro having the same idea for their money situation was nice. They gonna be a great work duo.^^

PS: Kay. Fight's lost, all hope is lost, time for our hero to enter and save the day next chapter. Like this set-up chapter does everything right, quick explanation of the bad guy's motive, smashing the good guys, kidnapping the girl, etc and etc. But somehow for some reason it just doesn't feel exciting reading it for me. Really wonder why this keeps being placed so low considering it seems to sell better than some of the other newer series.

I mean, you said it yourself, its not exciting.

But on another note.

While it could be an enjoyable read, other series are just always a bit better that I cant think, in a system where one ranks their 3 or so favorite series, that phantom seer wouldnt struggle to be in anyones 1 2 or 3.

Does I tell C go to U19, as they say ?

I've been seeing a pattern in jump bound sales since 2019, when a newbie is placed first and isolated from others, that newbie's sales are generally good (at least compared to other newbies in the same pack).

Besides, May will be a relatively weak month, because together with I tell C it has only:
Mashle, undead Unluck, Yozakura and Phantom seer. There is no veteran and only Mashle has strong sales (but I don’t know if he crosses the 150K barrier in the next volume).

So I don't think they would put I tell C in May if they knew there would be poor sales.

This week's top 5:
1. Magu-chan: God of Destruction - Great to have a relaxing SOL chapter after a couple more serious ones. Very interested to see how the story will progress now that a primary antagonist has been introduced into the series. However, there are still some wildcards that could still be pulled out later on down the road too.
2. Mission: Yozakura Family - Massively hyped chapter this week, and those color pages were stellar. That one CP looked like it could've been some anime screenshots put into manga panels. This is really starting to feel like it isn't going to end up being the final arc, which satisfies me greatly.
3. I Tell C - Not going to lie, I found the developments pretty interesting. Honestly, this author character almost feels a little bit like a fourth-wall type character to me. I feel like the author wanted to do a romcom similar to their Bunkiten miniseries, but somehow had the concept altered to be a thriller/suspense series. I hope that wasn't the case, but it kind of feels that way a bit.
4. Mashle - Another very satisfying follow-up chapter. I wish Finn could've done more, but Mash always manages to conclude his fights in such a satisfying manner.
5. High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku - Finally a funny chapter involving the sister. Honestly, the series has been on a bit of a hot streak lately.

The best of the rest:
6. Witch Watch - This chapter had its funny moments here and there, probably more so than most of the previous chapters. I'm not sure this will ever make it into my top 5 if the series keeps up like this, but each week seems to fall somewhere between passable and pretty good.
7. Undead Unluck - Interesting developments mentioned throughout the chapter, even if the battle scene wasn't all that entertaining to watch. I haven't been too big of a fan of the Billy character since he was introduced.
8. Me & Roboco - A little bit better than the last few weeks, but still not as great as the ones from a few months ago. Somehow, the two main characters of the series are normally the least entertaining to see in the series, but it really comes alive when focusing on the supporting cast.
9. Sakamoto Days - Wasn't too big of a fan of the CP, but the chapter was better than last week's for sure. Nothing too much really took place, but I'm interested to see what's going to happen in the next few chapters.
10. Ayakashi Triangle - Interesting new character introduced, but nothing really happened otherwise. Curious to see what her deal is going to be though.
11. Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin - A shame that I find the story and humanoid sea-creature designs so unappealing since the author is really talented after drawing landscapes and wildlife.

Highlight of the issue for me was hands down Dr. Stone, things will end up fine because they always do in this series, but still DAMN. I still like I Tell C but am sort of curious to see where it's going to go from here. Also Build King continues to be a mess.
