Apart from one piece, might have to say the veteran manga had the weaker chapters, nothing too exciting about Deku facing one of the most unimaginative antagonists...again or Asta swinging his sword again (was cool) but still compared to the other chapters, hard to really stand out.

Easily one of the strongest weeks for WSJ in quite a few months. Out of everything I read, I thought the chapters were equal to or greater than how much I typically enjoy them for most of the series.

This week's top 5:
1. Magu-chan: God of Destruction - Magu-chan and friends coming in strong with the cosplay. The only thing that could've made it better would've been buff Napu trying to pass off as a student as well. It's also refreshing to see the timeline moving along at a normal pace in a SOL series, since those sometimes just feel like time stands still for most of the entire series.
2. Mission: Yozakura Family - I'm not crying, you're crying! Just as tragic as I was anticipating for the little girl's backstory, but I was pretty surprised by what the poison guy ended up doing. I'm really hoping that Yozakura can get the cover and LCP in the upcoming weeks once this arc climaxes.
3. I Tell C - Yet another ending that completely keeps me invested in trying to determine what will happen next. I heard that I Tell C was also trending on Japanese Twitter with this chapter, so even if everyone's confused, at least it's generating discussion lol.
4. Blue Box - Although I liked the oneshot a bit more than this, it obviously needed to be tweaked in order to have enough depth to sustain weekly serialization. I thought the first chapter was pretty nice, and the new characters introduced seem like they'll be pretty interesting to see as well. The twist at the end, although obvious a handful of pages before its reveal, caught me off-guard since I didn't think it would take that direction from the start.
5. Mashle - Humor was on-point this week, and the development at the end seems pretty hypeworthy. I thought I was going to hate him at first, but Maracon is actually a pretty interesting character. I hope he doesn't completely disappear after this arc.

The best of the rest:
6. Sakamoto Days - The chapter was actually really funny, and getting to learn a bit more about the characters' pasts is always a nice thing. Next week should be a pretty great display.
7. Ayakashi Triangle - Lol at those last couple pages. Ayakashi is currently on a roll for me, so hopefully it can keep up the momentum.
8. Me & Roboco - A solid chapter for Roboco, and easily the best CP it has ever had (which isn't saying much though since the others were pretty weak). Even though they barely appeared, Bondo's friends somehow managed to steal the chapter with those shirt designs lol.
9. High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku - This week's chapter, while not as strong as the last few weeks' chapters, was still pretty good. I got some nice laughs here and there since the dad is by far the funniest character.
10. Witch Watch - The new guy's face looked a bit off in the CP, but otherwise it looked nice. The chapter itself was alright, better than last week's, but still nothing amazing. Weren't they blatantly talking about that secret right in front of her though at the end? I'm still not really a fan of that new Tengu guy.
11. Undead Unluck - It pains me that Undead has been ranking so low for the last few months, but sidelining Andy and Fuuko has zapped a lot of my interest in the series. I hope they become the primary focus again soon.
12. Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin - More odd backstory, and it looks like it'll continue some more next week.

I like how, UxU used different method of storytelling on this arc. Differ from others arc before.
since the beginning of arc every chapter open up with flashback, with few page enough to tell own story with end in cliffhanger, so that we want to see more of what will happen (what happen to his s*****, etc). This back and forth with present story made it blast of hell of experience. with interchange connection and loose between (FB had his senior, Present his senior appear again. FB had shen master focus, so the present)

And with this kind of method we slowly learn more and more about Shen., He become so much interesting and with so much depth.
Before this arc, Andy and fuuko always appear on screen and become pov. thats hold back a lot.. With Andy and Fuuko being sideline, its open more room to others. Thats quite a lot of sitback. 2 chapters back to back. grateful for that, because i thought the author is stubborn with, Undead and Unluck always be center and pov of every arc.

-----------
From others newseries:
-Still love kowloon's paradise, we got a game. like to see simple tactic being implemented. like new character, memorable not annoying yet.
-Sakamoto days : for me, after UU they had the fastest pacing in the magz. And i dont know where comparasion with gintama come from. Gintama every chapter (pre 500 chapter) is consist of 80%-90% is comedy with action, even their action mostly slapstick rather serious one. Even when there is mid-long arc its still had 50-50 comedy:action.. while sakamoto is action dominant with comedy bits set up. close to mashle early.
Still, i had a blast every week. The characterization is also strong and easy to like even with minimal chapter.
-witch watch. Boring. i dont like the character at all. Romcom always live and die on their character. and also didnt like romcom genre very much to begin with (ex kaguya, the only manga that i read every weak). , theirs gimmick (premise, lore) is not interesting either. or not much deep. so maybe will drop it..
-i tell c. yeah, we know where this is will be going. next!

There are a few aspects in common with Gintama.
1) The main team of characters: the boss does not appear as such, but he is actually one of the strongest people in the manga, his right-hand man is the "voice" of the reader and a girl (Chinese style) with her head in the clouds.
2) There is a combination of comedy and action which is over the top. Sure, there is a different balance,
3) The boss was a fighter in his previous life which he abandoned, although his past periodically returns in his daily life.

Then there are multiple differences. Personally, I would like SD to stay more action-oriented, although some characters need to be developed a bit more, especially the girl.

I agree, I don't see where the Gintama comparisons are coming from
to add to your point Gintama was pretty text-heavy manga, while Sakamoto have very little dialogue in it
also Gintama's bread and butter was doing parodies and reference jokes, Sakamoto have zero reference joke in it and lives on actions set pieces and rule of cool

to me Witch Watch read more like Gintama than Sakamoto ever did
1-Shinohara is a former Sorachi assistant
2-similar use of heavy text and panels lay out
3-a lot of parodies and reference jokes
4-similar art, character designs, facial expressions, aesthetic

Something I forgot to comment about I tell c is that, again, I've got the feeling it's trying to settle some controversy we may not be aware with all the talk about the girl not being an underage.

Like Midak said, my own comparison was mainly down to the vibe of the main trio and their similar dynamics. The balance of comedy/action is different as is so much else about how the series operate, but this chapter was the first where I got the same vibe between the main characters which is obviously a good thing. For what it's worth, I prefer the balance Sakamoto Days has right now so I don't want it to change or anything.

To go back to Blue Box, Twitter is alight with praise for the first chapter and apparently it's been received well in Japan as well. Not surprising in the least if true - this definitely feels like a 'moment' that few new series manage to get so early on.

The only similarity that Sakamoto has with Gintama, is the old MC, interacting with young characters. And that's just it.

I don't even know if you can say that Sakamoto is comedy, the manga gives much more prominence to the action.

Comedy and action are not exclusive, look at Mashle.

Mashle has a lot more comedy than Sakamoto.

Besides, she can take Sakamoto much more seriously than Mashle.

1. Dr. Stone: It's on a "chapter of the week" streak! The recent chapters transformed this arc from boring to awesome. All that build-up paid at the end! I wonder now if the next chapter will be the start of a new era.
2. Undead Unluck: Many have commented on how good the direction of this chapter was. The story of Shen per se was nothing particularly noteworthing, but the way it was told made us really hyped for the upcoming fight. I wonder if future mangakas are taking notes.
3. One Piece: Best chapter since quite a while. It's all about the big fight, and we have the most badass Luffy I have seen in a very long time. Great fight for now.
4. Hard-boiled Cop and Dolphin: Sometimes I think about putting this lower because I know it's not the average opinion on this series, but I can't lie to myself. I am loving the flashback that is full of twists and turns, and I think many mangakas have to learn from Tamura about how to cover all the remaining plot threads when your series is doomed. I will always remember HBC&D in the same way I remember my first crush.
5. My Hero Academia: Another chapter from a veteran that wants to show you how badass his MC has become. Luckily, Horikoshi succeeds as well as Oda, with a textbook application of the Worf Effect trope on the poor opponent.
6. Nine Dragons'Ball Parade: I am reading the Mangaplus re-editions of Kuroko and Haikyuu (first time for both). Them and Nine Dragons are at more or less the same number of chapters and...for now this is my favourite of all three. Luckily, even the baseball chapter was good so I can now say that this is a very good baseball series. Hope it will survive.
7. Blue Box: I liked the one-shot more. I expecially liked the idea that they could become an estabilished couple from the get-go and tell the story of their relationship instead of the usual "will they or won't they?". That being said, it was a solid first chapter although I have an unpopular opinion: the twist at the end kinda ruined it for me, I have seen this happening too many times (last of them in Witch Watch just two debuts ago).
8. Mission: Yozakura Family: I liked the sad story that put light on the hypocrisy governing the villain organization. Now it's time for the main duo, I am very interested about them.
9. Magu-chan: God of Destruction: Nice chapter where our characters have grown up a bit and we are reminded that there is the sub-plot of Magu trying to gather new followers. The new class should provide the opportunity to make new friends and add new characters, let's see.
10. Sakamoto Days: Nice and funny chapter, loved the Sakamoto team going for a bike hostage chase. About the discussion of it being similar to Gintama, I am with those that say that there are similarities (mostly on the main trio dynamic) but the atmosphere is different, which is good: Suzuki may (or may not) have been influenced but still included personality into his work.
11. Mashle: It seems that Macaron is going to live to his hype as a worthy opponent for Mash. Not only in terms of power, but in terms of attitude: he way be the first that is not a straight-forward bully but actually respects him. Now to see if the evil dudes are going to spoil the best fun I've had in a while with this manga.
12. The Elusive Samurai: This series is improving and the thief is a really nice addition! This formula of little arcs where the MC is provided with accomplishable tasks is paying off.
13. Jujutsu Kaisen: We are going full expositional here so this chapter is very important yet very transitional. Nothing much to say until we return to action.
14. Me & Roboco: First chapter in a while that was legit funny! Roboco really needed this. Many prefer the side characters to Roboco, and while this is true most of the times, peak Roboco is the best character of the series after the mom. Speaking of which...where is the mom? She needs her dedicated chapters now!
15. Witch Watch: Ok, at entry #15 I'm done with the good chapters of the week, now for the average-to-bad ones. This wasn't bad per se, and I kinda liked the wholesomess of the final pages. Still, the umbrella is the more charismatic character of the group, and that speaks a lot.
16. i tell c: What? We were still in the prologue? And the actual first chapter will be set many years later? If not for this "first chapter" thing, I would say this is an early axed series starting to prepare for the rushed conclusion. Kind of curious about how this new part will unfold, somehow.
17. Ayakashi Triangle: I plead guilty for having had the best laugh of the week at the bowhead whale joke. Apart from that, it's just your average filler Ayakashi chapter.
18. Highschool Family: After a good streak, we're back with a chapter that didn't make me laugh even once. I think the balance has shifted though, and this will be more the exception than the norm from now on.
19. Black Clover: In an issue full of very good chapters, an average Black Clover chapter sticks out for being too...average, I guess. Maybe the people revealed at the end will add more spice in the upcoming weeks.
20. Build King: Well, the final chapter had actually intrigued me, since the focus was finally on the main duo (and their house). Sadly, it was the last, so it really recovered too late. Goodbye Build King, you will be remembered as the series that resembled Toriko so much that at a certain point I had to force myself to not point it out every week.

pretty low number of tweets though so I dont think one can read to much into it.
I mean, I don’t recall many, if any, new serializations trending before. Unless maybe something from a famous mangaka like Samurai 8, Elusive Samurai, and Build King. Blue Box trending at in chapter one at all is still pretty impressive. Especially given that the mangaka isn’t at all famous

Kowloon's Ball Parade little speculation (PLEASE, LIVE)

Catcher: Tamao
Pitcher: Ryudo
Shortstop: Tsubaki
Third base: Tsurugi

Now we have twins who potentially could join the team. One of them is shortstop, the other one is second base. The older twin said Tsubaki is not shortstop.

Could Tsubaki be more fit for outfielder role? Or first base? That way only the 3 outfielders would be left. But according to Wikipedia, a professional first baseman is often a slow runner and tall. This looks more like the definition of Tsurugi's physique. But the cleanup hitters tend to be third bases.

Off the top of my head, the last Shueisha manga to trend on Chapter 1 was Kaiju No 8.

Im just confused on the team thing, can the twins really just up and leave the team? (is this some community team?)

Excellent issue this weak. Loved pretty much everything, especially Nine Dragon, I haven't wished for something to become a hit in a long time, even if it might not be in the league of all the spokon greats so far.

Jujutsu Kaisen had an important chapter full of interesting lore, but the execution felt very amateurish and awkward to me, at least the rest of the casts' remarks made the infodump less dry. Several pages were just like that recent (lol) HxH chapter that's been memed to hell (at least that had the excuse of explaining powers and mind games to dumb kids). You can only get away with this once you have made it to the top.

But man, im so sad about Build King, not because it ended (nosedived after arriving at the continent) but because of all the wasted potential of a much needed adventure manga. Just an all around terrible transition from the one shot into this confused battle manga. What the hell happened?

Yozakura has me disappointed too. I could not wait for this arc, but now I'm so bored with every chapter, very repetitive. I don't feel invested in any of this.

I was pleasantly surprised how natural and un-jump like Blue Box was, but then the ending came and that setup just stinks of repetitive, generic ass shonen romcom hijinks. Hope it proves me wrong.
