You know, I was thinking with Candy Flurry starting and Cop and Dolphin probably not having very long left to live, recently battle shounen by newbies have all either had quick cancellations or became hits. Phantom Seer came close but only managed to survive one batch in the end.

The late cancelled battle series which survived multiple batches first have all been by veterans in recent years. I don't think we've had a late axe of one by a newbie since Magico way back in 2011?

Which is a good sign for Sakamoto Days I suppose. If it lives past ch 30, it's probably going to stick around for the long term.

Magico's still an interesting series to look back on. With most series that find early success but fail later on it's a matter of not gaining enough traction beyond the initial hype, or stagnating or running out of fun ideas so people slowly lose interest, gradual stuff like that.

But with Magico, there's one specific story development which instantly destroyed its popularity. It's not often you see a series where you can easily pick out a certain moment and say that's what killed it.

I'll put a spoiler on it just in case but what happened was it introduced a rival love interest trying to steal away the main girl. This development caused the series to plummet to the very bottom of the ToC where it stayed until it got axed soon after.

Before that moment, the series saw occasional low placements but generally hung around the middle of the magazine. It shows that sometimes, one bad plot point can kill off a promising series.

But it wouldn’t be surprising in the slightest if it would be revealed that way down the line. The way it was set up, it feels like a pretty blatant foreshadowing for the eventual reveal.
Jesus. Not everything has to be Mexican telenovelas.

What do you think about the possibility that the only reason why there were 2 new manga and not 4 as usual is because of the mandatory double issue and there will be 2 new manga again in issues 23, 24?

1. There have been new serializations starting in double issues in the past, so that's not a problem.
2. There have been plenty of 2 new manga serialization rounds in the past. Sakmoto Days & Build King, Zipman & Agravity Boys, Yozakura & Mitama, Last Sayuki & Yui Kamio, just to name the ones that happened in the last two years alone.

Heck, the most successful Jump serialization round of the last 20 years was a serialization round that started only two new manga – Yuuna-san & Kimetsu, which started in #10/2016 & #11/2016 respectively.

Yeah but Jump has a tradition of starting news series right after the #21/22 or #22/23 double issues, maybe 1 or 2 issues after but they do almost every year, so he has a point, is possible

I would bet the new serialization round will start on WSJ #27 after the spring one-shot round

The number of new manga in a serialization round generally ranges from 2 to 4. Although it's rare, it's even possible for just 1 new series to appear (Hinomaru Sumou is an example of this). Same thing with 6 new series (We Never Learn, U19, Demon Prince Poro's Diaries, Hungry Marie, Dr. Stone, & Robot x Laserbeam in 2017).

It isn't too unusual to go a full year without a single batch of four (2013, 2016, 2018), either.

Many series begin on double-issues as well, as Serinox already mentioned. A good example is one of last year's batches, which included Moriking on Issue 20, Bone Collection on Issue 21-22, and Time Paradox Ghostwriter on Issue 24. In this case, all three series were announced at once.

Basically, this batch is probably just Blue Box and Candy Flurry. But we'll probably get a new batch within a few weeks of the double-issue, so you won't have to wait that long.

Jump has also skipped issues before (with the full round being announced at once) if they really wanted to not have something in double issue. This exact thing happened in 2016 The Promised Neverland was issue 35, Live Rush was issue 38 and Red Sprite 39 skipping the 36/37 double issue

Love Rush
I was like what...truly forgettable manga...though the plot sounds cool

"
Reiji Hakuba carries the ubermale gene, an unusual gene that causes women to see him as a super stud. It even attracts supernatural girls from other realms who hope to make Reiji their betrothed. But Reiji doesn’t want a harem. He wants the heart of his childhood friend Shizuku, the only girl unaffected by his gene.

Enter Kokoro Roko Rokoko, cupid princess from the Celestial Realm, who makes it her mission to protect Reiji from the otherworldly cuties out to snag his heart—so she can win it for herself. Will Reiji be able to dodge the unearthly advances of Kokoro and the others long enough to confess his feelings to Shizuku?

What I remember of Love Rush is that it managed to have a fairly decent complete romance arc for one of the girls, it ended about as satisfyingly as a U19 series probably can. The weakest part of it was actually the supernatural stuff, it would've been better as a regular romcom without all that.

At least the creator's having nice success now with Saotome Shimai. Unfortunately we can't say the say for the Red Sprite creator, but perhaps he'll find something that works eventually.

Random question to everybody:

Do you think that in next few weeks of Jump there will be an anime announcement for Yozakura Family? I believe strongly so.... Maybe in the #23

I don't think so... Yozakura is still far away for an anime announcement. The next one having an anime adaptation will probably be Mashle.

It still early if you're talking now but by the time it reaches 2 years (100 chapters) is perfectly plausible to get a anime announcement, it's doing well and constantly growing, Jump is actively pushing it, which means they already see as part of the safe line up, so no reason to not announce during the second half of 2021, but being more "realistic" i guess it would be announced at Jump Festa.

Most of Jump manga have anime announcement between 70-90/100 chapters, and Yozakura has already 80 chapters

The way I see it Act-age hadn't had an anime announcement by the time it was cancelled, and it was selling over 100k a volume, no way Yozakura is getting an anime announcement before Act-age would've.
