2nd anniversary with important announcement in the horizon?

Man, if my wildest prediction of 2021 about Yozakura getting a anime before Mashle and Undead become reality...
UU and MASHLE got their trademarks in october of 2020
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

I'm curious how an anime of Yozakura would even be done, the series struggled at the bottom for much of its first year but I feel like the shift also wouldn't have as much of an impact if it didn't have lots of episodic gag stuff first. Plus the most recent chapter would be a really good place to end on.

What I think might work best is a 2 cour anime bringing it up to this week's chapter, and have it just skip 10 or so of the most unpopular/unnecessary episodic chapters so it could comfortably go at ~3 ch per episode. Essentially making it so the first cour would be the pre-shift, and second cour would be post-shift, since skipping around 10 chapters would make pre and post genre shift roughly equal in length.

Heck, it could even put back in the skipped chapters for s2 (if it got one) like how Reborn's anime split the early gag arc in half.
i mean I also have a guess if it were not to skip anything other than chapter 54 and chapter 51.
Cour 1:
Episode 1: Chapter 1
Episode 2: Chapter 2,3
Episode 3: Chapter 4,5
Episode 4: Chapter 6,7,8
Episode 5: Chapter 9,10
Episode 6: Chapter 11,12
Episode 7: Chapter 13,14
Episode 8: Chapter 15,16
Episode 9: Chapter 17,18
Episode 10: Chapter 19,20
Episode 11: Chapter 21,22,23
Episode 12: Chapter 24,25,26

Cour 2:
Episode 13: Chapter 27,28
Episode 14: Chapter 29,30
Episode 15: Chapter 31,32
Episode 16: Chapter 33,34
Episode 17: Chapter 35,36
Episode 18: Chapter 37,38
Episode 19: Chapter 39,40
Episode 20: Chapter 41,42
Episode 21: Chapter 43,44
Episode 22: Chapter 45,46
Episode 23: Chapter 47,48
Episode 24: Chapter 49,50
and if there's a 25th episode then chapters 52,53

Cour 3 (Season 2) :
If there isnt a 25th episode on season 1 then Chapter 52,53 would be episode 1
Episode 26: Chapter 55,56
Episode 27: Chapter 57,58,59
Episode 28: Chapter 60,61
Episode 29: Chapter 62,63,64
Episode 30: Chapter 65,66
Episode 31: Chapter 67,68,69
Episode 32: Chapter 70,71,72
Episode 33: Chapter 73,74,75
Episode 34: Chapter 76,77,78
Episode 35: Chapter 79,80,81
Episode 36: Chapter 82,83
Episode 37: Chapter 84,85

When DB ended it was at ~100 million copies in japan at 42 million volumes, how did it nearly double its per volume since? I can't imagine kanzenbans alone doing that
Dragon Ball is an ever-green title, it's not only been reprinted in Kanzenbans, but also in other editions like Jump Remixes, Soushuuhens, and even had a reprint of its original Tankobon with a different spine.

Also, there are other titles which we had way lower circulation numbers reported and after a couple of years we have new information, e.g. Shaman King was recently revealed back when it was re-released by Kodansha it was revealed that it had 38 million copies.

Back in 2007 it had 22million.

So in the span of 14 years it had sold/printed an extra 16 million copies, which is a lot, is almost as much as it had sold in its original run.

You can also take a look at some numbers from this video, and compare them with the comipress article (though some are likely wrong)

COBRA for example had sold 20million according to the 2007 comipress article, and in the video, I linked it has 30million reported in 2008...
Does that maen COBRA sold 10 million between 2007 and 2008? Nope, just means that probably the article from 2007 had very old information.

And the same can be said about every Jump title, most will continue selling even after they finish. BUT other titles just don't sell as much anymore, for example IIRC Kinnikuman was just revealed to have sold 77 million, and the last time there were circulation numbers for the series it was in 2016, with 75 million copies sold. So an extra 2million copies in 5 years, but keep in mind Kinnikuman is an ongoing manga.

Other good example I just found, Rokudenashi BLUES reportedly with 43.7 million in the comipress article, and now with 60million (reported in August 2013) that's impressive growth, almost on par, if not better than the % growth of Dragon Ball (and they are pretty much the same, 42 volumes, same era -DB ended what in 1995 iirc, Rokudenashi in 1997-) so yeah Rokudenashi is another good example of an ever green title contiuing selling.

I'm not sure how it is usually done, but shouldn't securing a trademark like that be standard procedure for any series that Jump serializes? Even if they are not going to do anything with it, securing the trademarks in case they want to should be a no-brainer for a company making bank in providing source material for multimedia franchises.

Considering it seems like they do it just for the bigger series at least is a sign they see Yozakura as a potential franchise

I could see it working well as a long running anime. Shouldn’t Toei’s Schedule be freeing up within the next year or so with Dragon Quest and Digimon probably ending? Then again there’s the DB and potential One Piece films next year. Or Pierrot. Plus it’s a series that lends itself well with fillers. Better than the typical Shonen series like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, DB etc.
I actually think I would like Toei to get it(even if unlikely), with their recent series looking pretty solid and staying consistent. And I think fillers revolving around different siblings could really help the series.

But I also could see them doing what you mentioned. I don’t think they’d adapt every single gag chapter in the series. I could see them adapting some of the early gag chapters, and some of the more important ones that introduce reoccurring characters, and then moving on quickly to the action stuff.

Honestly I see Mashle being the most likely/fitting of the current series to go to Toei, doesn't even need to be long running but I think the talent currently there would fit the series, could even be late night like World Trigger or put in a more primetime spot.

My tinfoil hat theory has always been that the reason Yozakura stuck around so long, and was allowed time to grow, is because Shuiesha sees big franchise potential in it. Has a ton of colorful and quirky designs that would make for appealing figurines, pins, stickers, etc.
The concept and art lends itself to things thing Games, Mobile gacha Games, cards, etc.
Even if the manga doesn’t end up being super long, it feels like something that could endlessly create episodic episodes, filler arcs, and one off films.

Don’t know if it’ll actually work. It could completely flop and fail. But if promoted right I could see it becoming a solid bankable franchise; even if it’s just big on merchandising and other media and the manga doesn’t grow a huge amount.

That Magu decline: oof
The HSF stagnation: ooooof
Kowloon DOA: OOF

WW start & Sakamoto growth: hey that's pretty good

It's interesting to note that WW is almost identical to Mashle vol 1 and Sakamoto's growth on par with UU vol 1 to vol 2. I don't know what the days for those first weeks were, though, so they might both be doing better.

Magu and HSF are definitely next once Dolphin, i tell c and Kowloon make their exit. Candy Flurry would have to bomb reeeeeeealy hard for that not to be the case I think. Numbers for Witch Watch and Sakamoto aren't terrible but can't help but feel they underperformed a bit, but let's see what their week 2 and beyond looks like.

This video should updated for WSJ Top 125 for 2021 or people will make this video based on this.

They tried baseball manga and soccer manga really hard.
Are there any list of all sports manga on Shonen Jump? Failed and Succeeded series?

Not the best issue for me, wasn't feeling most of the series as they are right now apart from a few exceptions.

Great:
1. (+1) One Piece - This feels like a pivotal moment, like Act 3 is going to end in the coming weeks. Lots of developments (and even deaths) across the board, I'm super hyped right now.
2. (-1) Jujutsu Kaisen - Another epic battle chapter with fantastic fight choreography, what more can we ask for at this point?
3. ( = ) Blue Box - Everything worked out wonderfully. Still very happy how even the split between sports and romance is in the series.
4. (-1) Sakamoto Days - Some great action panels this week, and some actual beheadings? Every time the characters talk more about the order/organisation I get higher hopes for the long-term future of this series.

Good:
5. (-1) My Hero Academia - I'm glad this fight seems to be coming to its end - it's been visually exciting but any longer and it would have gone on for a bit too long.
6. ( = ) Me & Roboco - Three of the four gag series went for tender and sweet rather than comedy this week - all of them paid off but this was my favourite. I've been craving some chapters with the mother and I'm happy with the outcome of this one, just really heartwarming stuff.
7. (+7) WITCH WATCH - Another highlight for the series, this time with the two main characters! Much appreciated as I haven't been sold on their dynamic, but this helped a lot. Some really nice scenes from the past (I like how Kenta Shinohara fades the panel outline for flashbacks) and a cute ending.
8. (-3) Undead Unluck - Still good stuff, though this chapter felt more like a bridge between all the drama we've gone through and the big battle with Summer now about to take place.
9. (+2) High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku - If this were getting cancelled this would feel like a nice chapter to end off on. Didn't really laugh at all but I appreciated checking in on all the family as summer kicks in.

Fine:
10. (+2) Mashle - A mixture of the only fight I really care about being teased, hints of background lore, and Mashle being... Mashle.
11. (-1) Hard-Boiled Cop and Dolphin - Even though things have felt like they've been wrapping up for 10 or so chapters, this one did feel quite sudden in how it concluded. Even so, some really impressive pages this week in capturing the dread of the tsunami.
12. (-4) Black Clover - This fight feels like typical Black Clover again. Not as sold on this power as the last one, but I enjoy the character so I'm not mad about it.
13. (+3) Mission: Yozakura Family - So... it's probably not going to end anytime soon? (sigh) Well... at least this chapter wrapped things up neatly, we got some action panels that weren't overly messy, and ended on a touching moment between Taiyo and Mutsumi.
14. (+1) The Elusive Samurai - I'm glad most of the main crew got a spotlight this week. That final page was nicely drawn as well.
15. (-8) Dr. Stone - Back to the science mumbo-jumbo, so down it goes into the bottom of my enjoyment list. The past two months have been stellar so I'm not mad, just going to temper my expectations and wait for the plot to kick in again.
16. (-3) Nine Dragons' Ball Parade - Only reason I don't put it in 'bad' is because the artwork is still delivering when it needs to. Everything else is such a shame. Feels like we covered about 190 chapters worth of content in about 14 pages. RIP.

Bad:
17. ( = ) Candy Flurry - Still on the same vibe: it's all so cliche that none of it even feels real. It's like a plethora of anime/manga tropes thrown in a blender, paired with rather middling art.
18. (+1) Ayakashi Triangle - Kentaro Yabuki really will take any opportunity to sexualise an armpit, won't he?
19. (+1) I tell c - Uh... that flashback was... lol. Every chapter of this series feels like a carriage of a train falling behind, exploding on the tracks, and we're just picking up the mess it leaves behind. At least we're going to run out of carriages before too long (hopefully in this upcoming round).
20. (-2) Magu-chan: God of Destruction - Izuma is maybe the most insufferable character to me in the entire roster right now mainly down to my own dislike of the chuunibyou trope. Every panel he's in is pure cringe for me, so having him be the focus is not a fun time.
