Ah well he entered Garyokin Fire contest. well there you already have a storyboard and the japanese text from Jump, so he had just to draw it. No translation or anything then. Still great job for getting the 4th place and its cool to know that you will get an e-mail by shueisha if you did won something.

Well i will enter the Tezuka contest myself next month. I hope I will do beter then i think XD

I have finished my storyboard for quite a while now and i am currently drawing on my 13th page. but its not for treasure, but for Tezuka.

Just 18 more to go! HURRAY! XD Luckily i have the next week off and i can spend my time working on my oneshot^^. I already have orderd new paper, liners, ink and tones XD and i stocked up my fridge with delicious drink and snacks for that time XDD

Heh,same here.I guess it's because i haven't practised this much with ps,but i just preffer having it in front of me.It's like...i have more control over it,if you know what i mean.

And about that Stokin Fire & Garyokin Fire contest.Do you really have to draw 3 pages only?

yeah at that contest. Jump gives you a rough storyboard of 3 pages and you have to draw them in a fine manuscript. its a contest to find good artists or so i think.

Guys... Shonen Jump only accepts works in Japanese and sent from Japan!

If you send them a package with your manuscript and they see its a foreign one they won't even open it to see the content.

The reason is that this is not only a contest. It's a way to find new talents to work for them. In their system, you NEED to live in Japan to work for them.

So, if you are not in Japan, please, don't waste your money sending your manuscript for them. They are not going to consider it as an entry.

How do you know? Did you already enter the contest or what? Sorry but i dont believe anyone without proof. Even so why should they translate the contest in english and put it on the english website, when they only search people living in japan. if they live in japan they should be able to read and write Japanese. So its useless to translate the whole contest into english in my eyes.

A friend of mine went to Japan to live there for almost 10 years. He writes and draws comics and he tried to submit names and manuscripts to Shonen Jump.

When I saw this threat I asked him about this infos to help you guys. To my surprise, what he said was exactly what I wrote on my post.

I'm not trying to be a tr00l or nothing, I'm just trying to help you guys.

The reason they translate the page I don't know... my friend neither. But what I know is that they don't accept foreign submissions.

Sounds reasonable and i don't want to say you are wrong,but they accept forgeign submissions.An example would be that boy from Vietnam.Maybe it's limited to Asia so to people who know japanese and are close enough to move to Japan.Sending something from Europe or from the US(even though it's fairly close) is futile then.

I think we should wait and see what really happens untill this is proven to be honest. and the same as what google-kun said i dont want to say your wrong but I think its best to at least try it and see what comes of it I mean honestly, I don't think it should be a problem anymore seeing as everything can be pretty much done over the internet, I mean right now I'm working with a writer for a zombie comic thats getting published in the summer and I haven't meet the dude or anything yet, I have only spoken to him over the internet through emails.

Personally I think it would be kool for someone outside of japan to make a manga for them, to bring something fresh and new to the medium.

That's my wish,too,but it's easier said than done.They would have to translate it into japanese,which takes a fair amount of time,so you would need to finish the manuscript even earlier than normal manga-ka.Furthermore,you could not use english puns or idioms that fit into the manga,as they would be awkward in the japanese version.Another thing would be that you have to meet with your editor regularly and talk to him in japanese.The meetings might work over the internet,but as long as you don't speak japanese fluently,you can forget becoming a manga artist.Sorry for those harsh words guys,but that is the way i see it.

Guys, this was really recent. He came back last year and he tried to submit some things during his last years there.

The problem is that Shonen Jump doesn't work with the internet. You need to do it in paper. You need to meet your editor regularly, you need to give your manuscripts to them and that's the reality.

This guy from Vietnam was probably in Japan by the time he send the manuscript. At any moment he said that he wasn't in Japan.

My friend is back in Brazil now, but I have some Skype credits to spend and I'll try to ask him to call them someday to clear this doubt.

Hmm well im planning to send somthing into Jump treasure in the forseen future and im sure if its translated to Japanese then sent in they should accept it, as i have a friend i can get to write it all in japanese for me or just use Google Translater Lol. I just wish Ohba Tsugumi would judge soon.

To complete a project is something you guys should be proud of, for sure.
But please, do it in japanese at least. This way there is a very small chance that they'll read your manuscript.

And if you are going to send it, send it using a carrier like UPS or Fedex. They have experience with documents so they'll take care of your packages.
