Could be temporary for ES21. I know I'm not the less biased person on the matter, but objectively, this rating is if I'm not mistaken for chapter 305, and a transitional chapter between the Christmas Bowl and the youth cup. It was badly handled and felt a bit rushed, so I'm not surprised at all it's down there in the ToC. We'll see how the chapters of the actual arc fare. (I love them, but I'm not expecting much from them in the ToC. But if anything, it should still be at least better than this place here)

Somehow while the World arc has been more interesting than the Teikoku game, it really shows the series probably should have ended with the original idea. Sure it wouldn't have lead to the final showdown with Panther (which this seems to be building to...though if it collapses it could be rushed) but it would have gotten the original concept of Deimon's final battle out of the way. Sneak in a couple other mysteries (Hiruma's father) being solved...instant ending, hold the mayo.

I sort of feel sorry for Mago but unfortunately that's the nature of the magazine at this time. It's sort of going through the same motions as Psyren had for the moment...but I can't really say if this is enough to end it without a collapse of one (or all) of the three newbies. (though somehow with the way a couple are hyping, I think one of the sports series may just be our ES/PoT replacement and the state of sports isn't as bad as we thought)

And as for Psyren...well, it made it to a year so a small celebration is at least better than none at all. The next real milestone: trying to last longer than Mieru Hito (the mangaka's last series...though somehow with Sket's sudden surge, I wouldn't be surprised if this caught a wind in a bit either, even if it won't make Toriko or Bakuman waves)

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand Bakuman is another hit. I like it but not as top tier.

At least we can be sure it won't get sliced ;)

It still baffles me how TLR can be selling good, considering its rating in the ToC. Seems like 13-year-old japanese kids are rushing to the bookstores just to get an uncensored version of those drawings with tits. It's the closest they'll ever come to a pair of a real one, except their mother's. 'Tis true.

Yeah, low Table of Contents ranking or not, Nurarihyon seems to do well enough in volume sales to justify its existence. Remember, D. Gray-man (back when Hoshino could be considered a fully functional manga-ka) was always below Kochikame, and people would always worry about it, and yet the volumes always sold well, and it was never really in any danger. At least, not from Shueisha. From her own work habits, on the other hand...

Good for Bakuman. Since it's by a famous mangaka it shouldn't be that much of a surprise it's a hit. I don't expect a Ral Grad situation either; Ral Grad was garbage that sold off name alone. Bakuman is an actual quality manga. Hopefully Mago's sales really are enough to keep it going. It seems to be selling as well as Neuro and that's lasted four years and got an anime. And of course after only three volumes it could continue to build an audience.

Mago's first print may have been a tad too hopeful if you look at how much is still unsold in that period

though if one series is lookign at larger quantitys being printed in the future, Sket Dance is looking prominent, considering how much of the first edition sold

heck, i'm amazed i understood that information :|

and fxu, keep in mind that its all demographics. tanks might sell well with the older teens or young adults or pervy old men, or fans of ur....uru...that thing love trouble kinda ripped off a bit.. UY.... whilst the voters that matter to shueisha are the young teens area and such.... this thought train can also be applied to neuro...... man you're hateful towards.... a general age group population in a country....

i.... like.... elipses.....

......

on a random note i think i'll get around to ordering sket (and taizo...and yushagaku....and tsukai godago... and zan... and M&Y) sometime soon. sket 6 is really vitalising my want for more manga, that i can't read this time

Urusei Yatsura? I don't know if it'd have the same fans. From what I've read of both of them, Urusei Yatsura is much more of pure comedy - there's not a heck of a lot of fanservice. I don't think they appeal to the same audience.

I think that Psyren is safe. They did that bonus thing for it in Akumaru. They didn't do this for Asklepios, which is presumed dead....so I assume they don't plan on ending it soon. On a negative note though, this means they don't plan on ending Inumaru too...

Damn...

But yeah, I don't think Mago will end. I have a feeling either Meister or Basket will end. Both are okay but neither really have much redeeming quality to them. Yes Noodle, I am dissing Meister. =p

Or maybe I just don't like both sports. o________o

well we've established that we are two opposing sides on a lot of things on here... makes for interesting debates....

but yeah sports and gag manga just sit better with me, whilst youre more the action type... or suspense/cult i guess with the enjoyment of stuff like death note

Yo, when is the akamaru jump going to be released?
I heard it was gonna be released 1/10/09 but, I called every one of the Japanese bookstores around me but, they all said they don't have it.
Which is funny, one of them had the summer akamaru jump last year...

Anyways, can anyone confirm the date?

Don't forget all people buying the magazine doesn't mean they also buy the volume and vice versa. There are probably people who don't even care about the magazine and just wait till a volume is released

Akamaru should have been released last week, irrc

I think that some of early To-Love made it more like a low-brown UY: brilliant, buxom alien girl falls for human male and all sorts of weird things she brought with and the relations they hold end up screwing up everything. It's not our fault that fanservice has multiplied since the more safe era of the late 70s/early 80s in Sunday...and that Yabuki just loves drawing the girls.

We need to have fans of every series so we can get the whole picture around here. But just curious, Why don't you like Bokke-san? I find it seems like it knows a lot more about where the plot will go than Muhyo did.

it knows where its going with the plot, but it sure as hell isnt keen on letting anyone else in unless they like walls of text or boring exposition. muhyo was relatively fast paced for the supernatural genre without being as generic as some can be, and through that it worked wonderfully. not to mention that the direction and plot was much more certain for muhyo after just a few chapters of pondering with the enchu hints and by the end of the second volume it had a cemented and well built plot, not a messy clusterfuck like bokke-san.

but then i'm more of a instant gratification type i suppose

I see your point. I had no idea what happened in chapter 3.

Somehow the biggest thing this week is that weird little Gintama has made 5 years...I highly doubt Sorachi even expected to last one when he first started so it's something to celebrate. Good week for Sket, Mago continues with it's recent growing pains, and next week...well yeah, ES21 has the cover but Psyren gets to celebrate making a year!

I wonder if Mago will get a boost when the new series are rated. I know one of them will die right away.
