Meh, I would really have loved to see Naruto color pages but after checking out both chapters, I'm fine with Bleach as well.

Both series have a blast coming next week and probably going on like this for at least a handful of chapters, so I hope for Naruto colors on the week after Bleach :shakefist

(And after that I want DGM color spreads! :yelling)

Naruto, One Piece and Bleach are always deserving of color. But I wish manga like Psyren got more- alot more...

Hahaha Mago and Beezlebub were mentioned in the last chapter of Bakuman. That is totally a manga for people who watch the toc. XD

Beezlebub mentioned Inumaru dashi on the last page...kind of. There was a joke about it.

Forgive my ignorance, but how do some series end up not ranked at all?

Forgive my ignorance, but how do some series end up not ranked at all?
Three reasons:

1. The series is to new. It takes the editors eight issues to count/compile postcards so each TOC is actually ranking eight or so chapters back. So new series aren't ranked until they've appeared in eight issues.

2. Color pages. Color spreads have predetermined slots in the magazine. One is always the first series in the magazine. The highest ranking series in the magazine follows behind front color. The second spread is generally in the middle of the magazine. Some weeks, especially when a third series gets color, the second color spread will be closer to the front while the third is close to the back.

3. Pyu to Fuku! Jaguar. The long running gag manga is always the last series. This is due to high sales and short chapters. It was given a fixed position to symbolize it's permanence. It comes last so the magazine always ends on a happy note.

lol no kidding, I noticed that as well. XD

Not only that, they also mentioned a few manga that tanked really bad in the ToC like K.O. Sen and Muddy. :lmao

then how about Kochikame??? it's unranked too right??
but kochikame isn't fix in one place, so does it's position still rank based???

beelzebub mentioned inudashi? that musta completely passed me by

and kochikame floats about, like many a gag series in manga anthologies. and cause its over 30 years old

Kochikame will end when Akimoto wants it to...so it's rating doesn't mean anything, even if it is based on the poll.

I imagine that some older fans keep up with the series from when they were kids because, like Noodles said, it's over 30 years old and has over 1400 chapters.

It looks episodic, too, so anyone can pick it up and enjoy a chapter. There's that scene in Bakuman in which Shujin mentions how much he liked that week's chapter of Kochikame; I imagine most people who read it doing so leisurely, enjoying it for what it is, but not really being passionate about it.

The Muddy and Kiri-houshi shoutouts in Bakuman made me very happy! Two of my favorite tanked series. I'm sure it wasn't very encouraging to Ashirogi Muto to hear about only one mildly successful series named in the same breath as three failures, though.

it is episodic. i mean there ARE multi-parters, but no massive ongoing storyline, simply because akimoto's whole schtick is keeping up with whats popular in the world (usually goods or attractions) and involve them (cars appeared a lot early on, there was some whole monorail thing a few years ago, etc)

yeah a big bronze one outside of where the police would be if it existed. it's awesome, and inspired don patch to try and steal it, and hopefully one day get his own. the gag super 5 stopped him though...

ah...... the 30th anniversary... i still need to push for that to get translated in any shape or form

1600 next issue. Akimoto is really a churning horse. (Sorachi mentioned that too this week: he does it cause he likes it, compared to a lot of mangaka who just get burned out quickly or after one series or so)

Things are getting ugly for Bokke and Kuroko. Still, one of the best imaginable bottom fives. DGM is the only series I care about and it's never been effected by bad polls. Psyren and Sket finally rising out of the abyss is very good news. Sket color next week is also a good thing.

wow, so instead of leaving me to despise the choices of colour pages this week (excluding kochikame of course) the powers that be have rewarded me with a bottom 5 i can just plain ignore.

though grays not ranked, so.... it's not the full bottom 5... meaning sket isn't out of the water yet. though honestly i care more about whether inudash has recovered (sket's colour means it's far safer than it y'see)

also kuroko low then colour... continuing to learn to promote or a reward for performing well recently AGAIN... eh i'd prefer another series to get the colour, but then that's just because i'm kinda bored of kuroko now and it's had too many colours

lol wait, bleach is getting another colour? Didn't it just get one last week? I know it's been said that it gets pimped mercilessly, but this is ridiculous. Anyways, Sket Dance getting a colour page just made my week.

Kuroko looks like the next Double Arts; readers liked it at first but seem to have rejected it quickly there after. It's dropped a bit with every TOC. Kuroko and Bokke seem well on their way to being the next cuts. What a pathetic set of December debuts.

Bleach had color two weeks ago but your point remains valid. Chapter 349 sucked; color is hardly deserved.
