Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

both series should bounce back up soon, moreso sket.

also it might be safe to say that people aren't including love trouble anymore due to it's oft-bottom-but-really-popular status

Wouldn't Akaboshi be getting a color page too?

Nah, the spoiler poster, ko-neta, just decided to do a bottom 6 instead of bottom 5 for this issue.
Didn't know his name is ko-neta.

ko-neta (小ネタ) is what people calls him in the thread. It's because he calls his posts ko-neta, or minor spoiler.

Ah.
In fact this is not his name, it's just reffers to information he provides, 小ネタ (バレ), "small material (exposed)" which means for us "small spoiler".

Ah, so you read it "koneta"...I always thought it was "shouneta". Learned a new thing. : )

Psyren and Sket most likely will linger near the bottom until one or both of the new series bomb. Three series consistently in the bottom five have left in two weeks, Psyren and Sket were the mostly likely replacements. There's not to much to worry about so long as one of the new series does poorly.

1. Psyren isn't really bottom five so it really shouldn't even be there.
2. I think the Tegami Bachi anime was known to be coming for a while...any comment on who's animating it?
3. At least To-Love's anniversary isn't forgotten.

Studio Pierrot, since they did the OVA, but that's simply going off of that.

To be honest with you... it's just how I would pronounce it... Also, quite a few spoiler beggars used "ko" when begging... :p

However, I'm not 100% sure this is indeed the way to pronounce it, or how it makes more sense than "shou" from linguistic point of view... ;)

I mean even now, I'm not so sure the correct pronunciation for the legendary raw scanner "一筒神"... (lol) (I'm personally leaning toward "Ittou-kami" :eyeroll)

Ah.

Like I said, this is how everyone in the thread refers him to. Notice how they all call him "小ネタさん" or "小ネタ氏"? ;)

Densha Otoko wasn't called Densha Otoko untill someone referred to him as that.

I hope Sket gets an anime in the fall too. It deserves it. It's not surprising that series are a little low, because it always happens when new series start.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

Not that I'm dissing Sket... but I wouldn't say that it deserves to be animated for fall... I mean for one, Gintama didn't get animated until almost 2.5 year into serialization, with a 6~8 average ranking at the time... Sket isn't even 2 years old at the moment, with a 10~15 average this year thus far...

I can see it getting one next year, late winter or early spring, but fall this year? It's a bit of stretch if you ask me...

You bring up a good point, as I was researching into other WSJ series that were animated, it took at the very least 2 years.

Hoop's now bottomed out. It's last, besides Jaguar.
And ToLoveRu is getting a color page, proving Jump hasn't forgotten about it.
Kuroko's gotten a ton of color pages. I've read it, it's kinda interesting. We'll see if it's able to maintain any longevity.
Plus Bleach has a color page, which it has every other week.

Hunter x Hunter only took one year, but that's the only exception that I can think of. Even series like Dragon Ball and One Piece took 2 years.

Hm...yeah, HXH is the only exception, but let's not consider it since it's the exception for a lot of things...and Neuro was about 2 years.

Well, Bobobo was about 2.5 years. Neuro was 2.5 years as well.

I personally think the 2 year mark is when a (WSJ) series will start getting offers for possible animation... With 2.5 years being the usual broadcast date.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

I do think people shouldn't forget that it's TV channels who prolly decide about what's getting aired and what's not. It doesn't go along with manga popularity - though years can be indeed taken into consideration.

look at hatsukoi eg. That series wasn't popular in jump, getting a cut but in contrast to mx0, or even better, muhyo; hatsukoi is animated because TV-channels can work something out with the concept whereas some other like muhyo aren't appealing
