Either way could turn out well, depending on the mangaka. As long as it's well written and entertaining I'll be happy. Sometimes the strict re - telling is the least interesting.

SAO is a great example of this. One of if not the best manga I've ever read. If only it had had more time.

I am excited. I would be pleasantly surprised to have another series like Hoshin engi!

FFS. When is HxH finally coming back? It's been well over half a year since the last release. It's release slate is pathetic.

I thought Togashi would improve after the pressure from the last few month and yearlong hiatusses, but he doesn't seem to have even tried to step his game up. If only HxH wasn't good enough to be my favourite manga, I would've dropped it ages ago. How is it's popularity in Japan?

What I don't get is how he hasn't finished the Chimera Ant arc yet. A lot actually happened in each individual chapter, but at the same time not that much happened.

I think he should just get off his ass and finish the series already!

I just hope Togashi is working hard out on the series right now. So when it does eventually come back, it can have a long run or better still finish up.

I'm reading the viz releases as they come but they have pretty much caught up with Japan now as far as tanks go. So he has the whole english reading audience waiting too. Surly he is under a bit of pressure to get things moving?

Aren't the massive breaks part of the deal when you start Hunter x Hunter? There should be a no whining contract to sign before reading chapter one. He's been doing this for four years now, it's hard not to know it's coming before even starting.

Togashi is having a competition with Hagiwara on who can be a bigger slacker... :p:p

HxH will finish the same time as Bastard... (lol)

I'm really starting to wonder just how big Beelze currently is...they're praising it as if there were no tomorrow in that preview.

it's no more excessive than the way they preview any series getting the cover the next week...

Though I've never read Berserk (it just seems too much like a "Heavy Metal" comic to me, rather have something with weirder designs and lighter materials tell me the same concepts), some have said that he's only a third done after 20 years...so to have Togashi match him in length must mean you long-suffering fans will have...oh, little content for the next 40 in comparison.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

lol, I'm not talking about Berserk, but Bastard. They're two different series ;)

Bastard used to be in WSJ as well, but switched over to Akamaru (well, what later became Akamaru I should say) after Hagiwara hurt his back (or something...)

It was later moved to Ultra Jump, but then started his on and off serialization there.

Oh, and Hagiwara is actually a friend of Togashi, and he's the one who introduced Togashi to his wife, Takeuchi Naoko.

Just read Akaboshi... here are a few thoughts:

1. LOL! I'm surprised at the choice the author picked as the protagonist. Taisou was one of the more dickish character in the novel to be honest... but then that might be the reason why he was picked.

2. Art is nice, flow of the first chapter is decent, the humor is good (though not THAT good since it's mostly just Taisou being a dick).

3. From the story, it seems that the author is skipping the "formation" part of the group of 108 man. This is both good and bad. The good is that it means it'll mainly be original materials and stories. The bad is... it'll be mainly original materials instead of being able to borrow more heavily from the novel (it's hard to come up with ideas all on your own if you ask me). In short, this is a double edge sword.

Akaboshi's first chapter looks really nice. Still gotta wait to see how the writing holds out but my initial impression is good.

Well, I was referring to some lines from the preview where it said stuff like "This combo conquers JUMP", "Popularity at its peak" and so on...but I guess you're right.
Shouldn't read too much into that.

I also glanced over AKABOSHI and thought it was really nice. Especially the art was nice, the color spread's quite something.

Meh, I was tired this morning and Bastard/Berserk have similar names starting with B and having 7 letters.

Besides, all I know of Bastard (aside from a few old members on my other frequented board hyping it and it's time in Jump) is that the author has a Oda/Mashima-like bust growth obsession and it gets really weird when they start fighting gods.

i'm surprised that no-one's brought up the confounding and pleasing decision of viz media to catch up with one piece (hint: doesn't really make sense AT ALL)

I am pleased to see that they will serialize new chapters this fall. I am a bit stumped in regards to what they plan to do about the 33 untranslated volumes.

Oh it doesn't matter. It's not like one piece has an ongoing plot or anything. [/sarcasm]
