No. Could you try elaborating on why you would think it would end so soon? It's already a 20 chapter manga. :s Every sign points to a long series; it's a fixture in the top six, has had a lot of color, and has a hyped first volume coming out.
the reason i think it would end so soon, is if you think about it, Oga goes to a delinquent school, all the strongest rebel kids are, Oga has destroyed 2 of them and he is allied with one of them and he most likely could kick Toujou's ass. What else is there to do? There's not much concepts that the author can add, that hasn't been added in past manga.

Out of all the genres where this could be an obstacle, I'd place shounen very, very low on the list.

why? people are already saying Beelzebub is like Yu Yu Hakusho, what else can there be? Ninja, Pirates, Hunters, Shinigami, Football, Basketball, Teachers, Lovers, Martial Artist, Time travellers, Akuma, Demons, Deciples, Sword fighters, mangaka, every single thing has been done. Except a manga with heaven being the evil people (to my knowledge), maybe Beelzebub will do tht.

Well just because everything has been done before doesn't mean the author can't try to put his own original twist on it. Most of those types u listed have been done tons of times but the successful ones are the ones that had their own original twist to an old idea.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

You don't need to make the bottommost thing the manga's about be its "main idea". Like Toriko, it's about humans. But the thing with food and capturing and stuff is where its originality comes in. Beelzebub is about delinquents, and there have been plenty of those, but it has the other stuff mixed into it with devils and such.

PS. Since nobody's discussing "individual series" and "Shonen Series in General" there's no reason to say it's not in the right thread.

Estimating its life span will at least be 4 years.

It won't reach Naruto's levels but it may possibly reach Bleach, DGM, and Reborn realm of fame/sales years later depending on how things play out.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

I sort of don't get what people are saying about why Beezle will be so short. There are some shonen out there that have a similarly "short" concept that last for years. I still remember reading that Nube was essentially going to last one year with the main themes being "the seven horrors of Doumori Elementary"...but it was so successful that six were done in the first year and a half...and the seventh over five years into the run near the very end! Not to mention the other factors out there: variation on old concepts, advancing the enemies to the next level, some sort of bizarre revelation. Lest we forget Ichigo was merely fighting normal hollows without his "true power" in the first year of Bleach or that DB was to end once the first wish was made and Pilaf was defeated...I say that if Beezle were to continue, they'll find a way to make it so. (unless...it's actually meant to be contained and short like Hatsukoi...or maybe Death Note)

Besides, fighting delinquents with supernatural abilities...with what I've heard Beezle has so far, it at least isn't a direct clone of a YYH or a BOY...and obviously not Reborn or Bleach. Just let it grow a while.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

I'd say generally, only established manga-ka go the route of the contained, concise series. Probably because they get published and stay in the magazine on name recognition alone, and are more often than not, high sellers.

A new manga-ka like Tamura (like most manga-ka) is looking to establish themselves and would try to, for lack of a better term, stretch out a series for the long haul. Now if Beelzebub becomes popular enough, Tamura can probably do whatever he wants (if he can resist any pressuring from the editors) if he has a natural ending in mind.

Some manga-ka would prefer to latch onto a long-running series just for the sake of the security, while others like to have some variety and try different things.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

You can see the results of a clear-cut long-story-right-from-the-start manga by a newbie-mangaka in WSJ when you look at Double Arts:

It died fast, because the introductions were done as part of a slowly developing plot instead of the fast-paced 1-3 chapter arcs that are inherent to most WSJ manga's beginnings. Double Arts set an environment and a long-off goal within the first 2-3 chapters while also defining a long way for the story to go. This would be less problematic in more forgiving Magazines (like Weekly Shounen Magazine and Weekly Shounen Sunday) but is a death-sentence for series in WSJ with its fast-cut policy.

A mangaka of which the people just don't know what to expect can't jump into long arcs without the risk of being cut being raised 100% higher than it was before. It might work once in a while but those are real exceptions.

Just a little curious, from all the battle manga in Jump, what is your top 5 most violent manga. Mine would be?
1.Bleach
2.Mago (recently, it features a lot of spattered blood)
3.Reborn
4.D.gray-man
5.One Piece

1.D.gray man

3.Gintama
4.Beelzebub
5.Toriko

I was gonna put Akaboshi in my list until the recent chapters dissappoint me. Is it possible that Akaboshi will be cut very soon?

Its position at the moment is very dangerous; it's obviously the closest to being canceled of all the current series. BUT we have a cushion coming next week - Kagijin, unless japanese readers are retarded enough to like it - and who knows how bad the other two will be received. So... I'd say any fans of Akaboshi (myself included) should be prepared to seeing it go after two months, yet it's to soon to lose all the hope.

To Love Ru actually rose? That much? I can't think of a chapter that was good enough to do that. :lmao

Bakuman yo-yos again.

Damn, well this doesn't bode well for Akaboshi or Kuroko. Consecutive weeks in the basement at this point. Although I did believe that they would be the next cushions. If Medaka continues to dwell in the basement that won't be good for it either.

Although this does make me wonder about(And give hope for) Sket, Mago, and Psyren's position in the ToC.

Urgh. Reborn color. I was in denial that series was still in the mag. So wow, Kuroko, what the hell!!?? Weren't you constantly in the top ten all spring? Now last place. Better you down there then Psyren or Mago. I am disappointed with Medaka, I really like it and hoped you'd stick around. Maybe next week. Akaboshi is d.o.a. I expect it to be part of the next cuts. It may be to early to say it, but I think Kuroko will as well.

Sket and Mago have both been really high lately, I expect good things this week. Psyren gets center color, so is exempt.

Ah damn, how could I forget the Psyren color when I was anticipating it? XD

And yeah, I'm wondering if both of them will be in the top 5 at this point. Or like last week in the top 6.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

Shows how much confidence they have in Wajima... Doesn't even freaking get the cover. My prediction is it lasts 8 weeks.

Cassius, you left out Bakuman on your list. Finestela's is right.

And you didn't mention about how OP is absent, but I guess it's well known at this point.
So everyone gets a +1, because number one is absent.

And now Akaboshi and Medaka are those cushions and such. Akaboshi really could've been a good series but it just gets confusing. Well, maybe it can still pull back. Kuroko I guess the premise doesn't work well in the long term? Maybe it getting boring after a while. I've read it, and it's sort of episodic in each match. And it's never too exciting even though it goes in with a lot of depth.

And Bakuman sells over 200,000 so it doesn't really need to worry about the TOC. ToLoveRu does well if I remember, over 100,000. It's like how HXH tends to be low because of the hiatuses.
HXH people are saying it'll continue around September or October.
