Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2

Is Koneta will release tomorrow or one week after? Because of double issue, I'm not really sure when bottom 5 and TOC for issue 39 will be release.
I'm pretty sure they won't be showing up till next week.

They might come out this weekend anyway. Issue 39 may go to press this week even though it comes out the week after. That happens a lot after double issues.

I got a question.
Do you think that Beelzebub is the next big thing? I mean it shows the most promise out of most of the other new manga, so what do you think?

No. Psyren is the up-and-coming star of Jump. ;) Each time it ranks higher and the volume sales increase.

Beelzebub is certainly a part of Jump's next generation. Bakuman is already a big hit. Toriko and Mago will be soon too. Beelzebub volume 1 sold comparably to Toriko and Mago number one. Sket Dance and Psyren could still develop into hits, they're place in the magazine is secure, an expanded fanbase is not out of the question. Even Kuroko, much as I hate to admit, has shown some sales potential.

That of course assumes you are only thinking about Jump. Only three series that have debuted since 2007 have established themselves as massive hits; St. Young Men, Sangatsu no Lion, and, of course, Bakuman. The first crossed the 600,000 copy threshold with it's volume three. Sangatsu sold more then 400,000 with volume two. If it hasn't already, Bakuman volume 2 has also passed the 400,000 copy mark. None of the other 2007 - 2009 Jump series are at that level yet.

Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]48460[/split]

Download all the latest WSJ chapters here!
(Note: The above list is automatically generated based on latest releases and availability of chapters on MH.)

What is this thread about?
This thread started in 2006 as a scan archive for Weekly Shounen Jump (WSJ) manga. It was essentially a place for all raws from WSJ that didn't have their own R/T/S threads here at MangaHelpers. Over the years, many members (including The Touch, xi0, Kylara, Asakura, Sai_the_Shaman, Waeyen, and Heiji, to name a few) have been helping out in this thread by scanning covers, ToC pages, previews, and sharing the raws they found or scanned.

With MH's upgrade to v2.3, there's no longer a need for a separate scan archive. This all new 2009 thread will be for you, the fans, to discuss whatever you like about WSJ! Predominantly, discussions will be centered around the ToC ranking that's posted weekly. You can also post the magazine covers and preview pages in this thread.

What is the ToC ranking?
ToC stands for Table of Contents. It's found on the last page of every issue of WSJ, but more importantly, the order the series appear in on the ToC is closely related to the popularity of the series. This is determined by polling the readers; there is a polling postcard in every issue of WSJ.

Each week, a certain guy from 2ch writes out TOC for the following week's Jump. TOC order is usually based on polling result of readers, thus you will know how your favorite series are doing based on the order.

Some exceptions etc:
- Pyu to fuku Jaguar is always at the last.
- Kochi Kame is usually at the last, too.
- For the 2nd-8th chapters, TOC is already decided, though it could change depends on readers' ranking.
- The TOC is affected by the popularity of 8 chapter ago.
- Shuei-sha's aiming their main target as elementary and junior high school students, thus, their votes weigh probably more than others (fangirls).
How can I find out what series runs in WSJ?
Click HERE for a list of all the current series running in WSJ. Each link will lead you to more details about the manga, and where you can find raws, translations and Edited Mangas for all your favourite series! You can also find past series in WSJ by changing the Status filters on that page.

Where are the past WSJ threads?

- Weekly Shounen Jump (Shounen Mag by Shueisha) [Archive 2008 and older]

Have fun!

Early Magazines F.A.Q.

Who are the people who post spoilers at 2ch?

First of all they are Japanese.
They live in Japan and most of them are normal people.
By normal, i mean Junior highschooler, university students, salary men etc

Are they Jump insiders?

No, would you do that if you were one? Risking to be fired for that? I guess no.
But, from time a time, some of them post "spoilers" concerning Toc's (Rankings, New Series ...) before anyone can get the jump.
But i still can't clearly define "ko-neta" (named like that by Finestela)
He provides information on Sundays but he seems not to have the jump in his hands (i can prove it but it would too long), some hints can be found
Here

How come they can get the jump one week before the release date, for some of them?

They get their copy earlier than they should.
Most of the industries in japan work in "just-in-time distribution" which mean that they immediately ship merchandises after they were produced, to not pay stock taxes.
So they ship the fixes quickly that's how bookstores etc get them on monday/tuesday etc ( i don't how they manage the priority between stores) and are supposed to sell them only the next Monday.
But some of them don't respect that and sell them to people they trust.

See here how one of them had problems by doing so in this article (Japanese)

But How American/Chinese (Taiwanese) and citizens of others countries get them early too (on Friday)?

Because magazines are sent to foreign stores at the same time it's sent to Japanese but they have shipping delay.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.2 - Part 2

Psyren's still a long way from being called a star. Please differentiate a hit series with a series that you like. Even Mago and Toriko which were serialized after Psyren has more support from Jump than Psyren. Toriko will be getting an anime on Jump festa and probably will get an anime series in 2010. Mago is getting a Drama CD on December with a high profile seiyu attached, meaning it's no slouch either.
As Kaiten said, Psyren and Sket Dance can still be hits, but I think right now Beelzebub has higher chance of being the next big thing.

Sometimes though hits aren't made until something big happens that helps them along somehow or another. I sort of was hoping that there would probably be an anime (or even a drama at this point) for Sket to maybe boost it along and help it get a bit more of a base or trust from Shueisha...but at this point it probably looks like it won't be coming this year and there are no indications yet for 2010. (aside from the audio drama...but even that doesn't mean anime if you look at Muhyo) I also sort of fear for Psyren and Mago...but more because they may want to push Toriko and Bakuman first and possibly forget these two and the potential they have.

Did Muhyo ever got a drama CD? Because the last time I checked it didn't. Drama CD almost always leads to an anime. Neuro and Tora both got drama CD before being an anime. Mago is getting a drama CD with a famous seiyu, meaning Jump is not forgetting it. Speaking of which, anyone who want to pre-order Mago Drama CD it's available in Amazon and HMV

Well I think Psyren is a very good series and it has been doing well but yeah I agree with you. Also you know a series is popular when it is brought over to the U.S., at SDCC this year, Viz anounced it has plans to seairalize Bakuman and Toriko in its English version of Shonen Jump. I think its big news because both series are relatively new and are becoming popular. I dont know much about Toriko but Bakuman was done by the creators of Death Note after all so you knew it would be a hit.
Mega EDIT: Tokyo Japan was just hit by a major Earthquake

Does anyone think Shueisha might not release this week's issue of Weekly Shonen Jump because of this event?

There's no issue next week anyways. This week's issue has already shipped, that's why we get early raws.

No, the reason was because this week's was a double issue. They count it for two weeks. Usually because of holiday

The Akamaru issue with D. Gray Man comes out next Monday, if that fills the void.

Hard to say. I've never seen Akamaru spoilers, then again I've never seen a series as popular as DGM in Akamaru. Weekly Jump spoilers usually come on Tuesday when the magazine goes to press. Hypothetically, Akamaru spoilers could come out then, it's street date is the same as Weekly Jump's would have been.
