Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

What's the big deal though? Do people want To-Love to end to free up space in the magazine or "just because it's To-Love?" Look, the series has been nothing but fluff for a long time and has squandered it's potential, but it still has lasted a while and got an anime out of it all. We can't say the same thing about anything else, whether in the magazine now or coming up in the next newbies. Amidst it all, the series is a success for Jump and, while probably won't be remembered, it probably could at least make a case for Yabuki's importance to "Jump in the '00s". (considering he had this and Black Cat in the same decade...that's a good record)

I think people view ToRa ending as protection for struggling new series like Medaka Box.

In change of subject, according to this site, Hatsukoi and Blue Dragon is considered as axed series.

http://jump.heavy.jp/jb.htm

Also, it shows ranking of Jump series since 1967 (look under ジャンプ連載順位).

http://jump.heavy.jp/

Does each head chiefs has different views on which series going to be axed or not?

thats a great site! looking at some of the old ones make me wonder why some series had to get axed (especially Double Arts)
they weren't doing that bad.....
and its also amazing how some series manage to live on with not-so-great rankings.
i guess Tank sales are really a major issue....

but i would love TLR to get axed, just to make room for better manga....
i mean the plot is really going no where, and nothing happened at all for the past few months. ifs time to move on.

And for those who want an easier time to see older Jump for oldheads like me (who as of late seems more interested in his projects of Otokojuku and KochiKame than in AneDoki, Medaka and Kagijin)...there's this page:

http://www.biwa.ne.jp/~starman/index.htm (pretty much easier to see everything from '68-'00)

if ToLoveRU ends, i will start respecting WSJ again.
if they cut Medaka instead of TLR, i will hate WSJ even more...
interesting how Nurai managed to get itself out of the bottom spot before they cut series.... if it was few months ago, Nurai would have been long gone.
Well Ill start respecting Weekly Shonen Jump again If they stop putting Naruto on the cover every week
To Love-Ru needs to end because in all honesty it seems way out of place for Shonen Jump or any Shonen magazine for that matter.
I would love to see WSJ have another Bleach cover, seriously they have no love for it. In contrast, the English version of SJ has a Bleach cover again for the October issue which I am fine with.

Are you kidding? Last year WSJ was 'pimping' Bleach with covers and color pages all the time.
It was rather annoying.

I read TLR and really, I don't think it's that interesting. I won't care if it ends. But, Ane-Doki, I find it to be fun to read and I'm curious about it's first ranking on the TOC.

There may probably still be a couple coming up but once we get to issue 43, the big anniversary for Naruto will be finally upon and then anything after that will be overdone. And...seriously, do we really need any more Bleach covers after last year?

There is one way that Shueisha can make it up to us...but that involves 2010 being "the year of Usuta" before the potential inevitability (if it's still going...which knowing us it will) of 2011 being "the year of Kubo".

Harem manga out of place in shonen? Really? Really? -_-;

ToRa most certainly has a place in Jump; selling 500,000 copies per volume and attracting a demographic Jump doesn't cater to more then earned it a spot. And yes, harem is one of the great, traditional manga genres, confined almost exclusively to shonen. Every other shonen magazine has one or two, some magazines feature harem the way Jump does action.

Don't forget, the original ecchi manga ran in Jump; Harenchi Gakuen, the debut by one of the greatest mangaka ever: Go Nagai.

I think he meant for just To Love-Ru, itself, not a harem genre. Shonen magazines do need harem/ecchi genre because it is one of famous genre in manga.

To Love-Ru needs to be end because I think about an year that ToRa's plot is going nowhere. And I think harem/ecchi manga is hard to pass 20 volumes because I think readers can become tired easily if it goes same routine, and it showed that To Love-Ru's sales aren't much high as compared to past volumes. So, in order to seralize longer than 20 volumes, I think harem/ecchi manga should combine with battle manga, too, like Negima.

But TLR is the only harem echhi manga in jump. Medeka isn't really that echhi and its not harem aswell. Unless a new harem echhi manga comes i don't think TLR will be going anywhere.

I think Ane Dokii going to replace ToRa. But, we have to wait and see how Ane Dokii will do on its first official ranking.

To Love Ru doesn't feel out of place in Jump to me. It just squandered any potential it had after the first year and degenerated into using the same plot devices to deliver fan service.

I'd say the universe/idea itself is fine.

Wtf? Of course they do. WSJ pimps the hell out of that awful series. It got loads of covers last year and they have a shit ton of color pages for it this year.

So much color that it still has the highest color count compared to the other series in the magazine barring Kuroko no Basket which they were pimping hard in attempts to promote/save it and Beelzebub right after those two.

I'll be fine with no more Bleach or Naruto covers for the rest of the year though that is probably asking for too much. -___-

Only if they have better storytelling skills and a better usage of girls than Akamatsu. I just finished explaining why he's doing that wrong in another thread.

Never happen: Bleach and Naruto sells so we're stuck. Maybe it could be somehow they have little imagination in the minds of those idiots.

Ok first off I just started watching/reading Bleach last year and at the time I knew very little about WSJ. I just said that because Im tired of the Naruto covers. Secondly I was only stating my personal oppinion about To Love Ru, I completely understand it has a special place in the magazine and I respect that.

I found this info. from 2ch.

ネタが揃わんかったので小小ネタ

・41から新連載
・とらoutらしい
・鍵ドベ5入り
・40ドベめだか
・41姉C

詳しくは明日
・New series start on issue 41
・ToRa looks like out
・Kagijin is in bottom 5
・Medaka is in bottom 5 on issue 40
・Ane Dokii getting colour on issue 41

I'm not sure that this news is true or not, but it seems people in 2ch same it is true. Also, it looks like Akaboshi escapes from bottom 5.
