Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

It's a shame as I really like Kagijin. Not very original but a lot of personality. Like they said in Bakuman: with so many action series it's hard for new ones to get noticed. In the last five years only Toriko and Mago seem to have established themselves as hits, or hits to be. Beelzebub hardly counts as "action" in the same sense as those two, fighting/yanki supernatural comedy seems more fitting.

At least Jump has developed into a more varied anthology over the last two years as a result. With Bakuman, Beelzebub, Inumaru, and Sket Dance established as long term non - action staples, and Ane Doki hopefully joining them, along with older series like Gintama, Jaguar, and Kochikame it feels like the tyranny of tournament manga has loosened it's grip on the magazine. Hopefully Medaka can escape enough cuts for a nice three or four year run. It gives more to the magazine then it takes away.

how about Psyren?
although its a bit weak to be considered a "hit" but its still surviving!

and i think there is quite a chance for Beelzebub becoming a action manga like Reborn did.

but i think we do need some action mangas coming out right now, since lot of the long ones are pretty close to finishing. (D.Gray gone, Naruto almost over, Bleach will hopefully end after this arc, HxH will probably have more hiatus, Reborn can go either way i think........ and OP is OP:))

Psyren is surviving, definitely not a hit. Naruto and Bleach are the only action series that will end within the next two years IMO. Naruto will end sometime in 2010, Bleach in 2011, I think. That will leave OP, Reborn, Toriko, Mago, and Psyren, five action series. HxH will keep doing it's thing, so lets not count it. There will always be new tournament series debuting, something else will catch on by the time Naruto and Bleach end.

whoa that was sudden, i wasn't the biggest to-love-ru fan but at least it was funny hopefully medaka and kagijin will follow suit.

I know i'm being bias, but i already thought of psyren as a hit even though it sales are not as good as toriko and Nurarihyon.

I still dont see what's so good about toriko, it worser than chagecha

We still don't know whether Akaboshi is out of bottom 5, or not. But if it did, I would be happy because I like Akaboshi little bit more than Medaka. But, if not I hope Medaka don't get axed.

I think we would be lucky if Bleach actually ended by 2011. But considering Kubo's pacing I'm not sure about that. Especially when he technically does still have more room to drag out the series. Sadly.

Agreed on Psyren not being a hit. We can hardly call it that when the majority of its life span so far has been fearing cancellation of it.

Also Akaboshi escaping now would be a miracle imo.

Original concept, interesting world, unique art, the main character is a breath of fresh air compared to some of the other leads in the mag etc. But if you don't like it you don't like it.

hopefully both gets out of it,

i just recently started reading toc [ so sry if this question got asked before lol ]
does all newer series usually start on the bottom 5 n make it out
i wonder if other series made it out of the bottom 5 before that was in the same position as medaka n akaboshi

Psyren seems to have become the new Muhyo, popular enough to last two years, probably won't make it past four. There is no hope for Akaboshi :p With how poorly Kagijin is doing and some strong hints that Wajimania will debut at the bottom, there could be three more more cancellations soon.

While there is absolutely no basis to believe he will return, I'm crossing my fingers that Komi Naoshi will replace ToRa. I'd die if he does. Kano should be ready to return soon too.

Did he make some One-Shot recently, except by Apple?
I hope so; Apple wasn't so good for long serialization IMO. But it's a very good OS.

Not since Apple, no. He did Personat in SQ (magnificent) last November and Apple (not so good) last winter.

I hope Komi will return, too. I'm still feeling pitty about Double Arts being axed. If he comes back, I hope he returns with Apple, I really enjoyed it.

I liked double arts a lot but I think both one shots he did afterwards weren't really good to be serialised. I'd rather wait some months and have a good, succesfull manga of him then some serialisation of apple or persona

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

I loved both Apple and Personant. :amuse I wouldn't say they're not good enough for serialization - but they're not the kind of series that I can see being adapted into a long-running one. They were the perfect length already. (Komi Naoshi coming back would be AMAZING.)

Psyren probably isn't in much danger right now, at least, since Jump has quite a few series doing much, much worse than it is.

I can probably say that all of 2008 series are now safe from cancellation. They have serialized for one year, and I think they already formed their own fanbase, now.

Apple was not worth serializing. Personat probably won't be as it was in SQ. It's been a year and a half since DA ended, anytime between now and March would be good for a comeback.

I've never been a big Kano fan but Loop was fantastic! With how dark it was I wouldn't mind seeing him make his comeback in Young Jump but I do hope to see him return soon.

Psyren isn't a hit yet, your sales are low compared to Mago and Toriko, but these three titles are the future of jump, the magazine will pimp them to suceed Naruto/Bleach soon.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Well nice to see Toriko has the cover, but sorry about ToLoveRu. It was everyone's favorite bottom-five cushion.
Toriko is likely getting the cover because the Jump Anime Tour is starting, so it's for the anime "premier".

Naruto is ending soon, the author cover flap for V47 or whatever we're on... Kishimoto says "we're at the plot heading for the end". So... just so you know... It's around its last "big" arc. If that wasn't clear already...

And uhh... since there's no bottom five till tomorrow I'll hold out on that, whwever Akaboshi and Kagijin are. Just being in the bottom five once in your opening doesn't necessarily mean you won't do okay, sometimes it takes time for it to gather readers and catch on.
