Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

That's exactly why they should make one. Psyren's popularity could use a boost.

I believe it's very similar to the idea of wanting to give underappreciated series colour pages. They use the series to hype the magazine due to the series' popularity, not the other way around.

I know, but it just seems silly that Psyren is hardly hyped at all. I know it's not that popular but how would you ever expect it to be when it does not receive any attention? If WSJ wants it to be a profitable series, you have to give it decent exposure. Otherwise, why even bother to keep it around at all? I'm not saying it should get color pages every week or anything but would a cover or vomic do so much damage?

well, all new series are in the same situation, and its the manga's job to attract more readers.
WSJ can't really give special treatments to Psyren when they are lots of other new series out there. its just competition..
i was surprised Psyren even lasted this long, with such lack of popularity.

Akaboshi is back down though I kinda saw this coming since the chapter getting ranked wasn't very good. Kagijin and Medaka are still the lowest...bad news for them. Ane Doki is in the bottom while Wajima is out...WTF!!? And Psyren.....well it should go back up next week because once again, the chapter getting ranked wasn't very good.

And Mago cover!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not good news for Ane Doki. And I guess Strangerataru was right about OP.

Nurarihyon no Mago hasn't gotten a cover in... ever. So good for it.
It does just say "opening color" so whether or not it won't get replaced on the cover by Naruto or something, we'll see.

Inumaru and Beelzebub get their million color pages of the year...

Also it says that it's gonna use "dog" as the abbreviation for Lithanel... or whatever that manga's called.

Front color for Mago? Maybe a cover? Cool! Would this be the first cover it's had since chapter one?

The confusion over what ends next just grows! Akaboshi, as predicted, slid right back into the bottom five. It, Medaka, and Kagijin are all clustered together as the last three. Like Medaka, it hardly surprises me that Ane Doki is in the bottom five. I can't imagine a 14 year old action fan voting for it. I mean come on; no bankai, no devil fruit, no jutsu. I'm more "worried" about Akaboshi and Kagijin, both of which have clearly failed to connect to their target audience. But, I also doubt there will be cuts till issue 52, so both could be safe for a while and one of the two new series could do worse.

Oh shit a Mago cover. Definitely didn't see that coming. However, I'm not surprised by more Beelzebub color. :nerve

I'll have to look back and see which Ane Doki chapter that was. I know one of the early ones wasn't that great.

Akaboshi returns to its spot in the bottom 5. Although it managed to be above Medaka and Kagijin this time. If only Wajimania and Kuroko would get back down there too.

Kagijin looks to be doomed and Medaka's positions in recent weeks doesn't bode well for it either.

I'm not even worried about Psyren with Akaboshi, Kagijin, and the new series being possible padding for it.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Medaka and Kagijin are showing no improvements.
Wajimania starts ranking from this week right? i guess its not as horrible as we thought.
Anne reaches bottom 5 huh, well, i don't think it matters that much. (with TLR gone)
Akaboshi comes back down, but its still better than Medaka.
this one is pretty sad. my dear Psyren is too low :(

Kagijin is officially dead at the next cut..(unless some miracle happens). dead bottom two weeks in a row, its brand new, and its also just an average action manga..

Inumaru and Beelzebub get their million color pages of the year...

Also it says that it's gonna use "dog" as the abbreviation for Lithanel... or whatever that manga's called.
u are right.
so that means its Lilienthal with the color page, not Inumaru. (its going to be so confusing with both series being related to dogs)
a bit surprised that Lilienthal is not getting a cover. but since Nurai is getting it, its fine :)

Well, even though Akaboshi is back near the bottom, it's doing better than it was before, since there are two series below it. It could well be spared once again when the next cuts come around by Kagijin.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

It's no surprise that Akaboshi went back to the bottom. I did like chapter 10, but some things in it seemed like they could be a major turnoff for the readers. In chapter 9, Chougai and his group talked about what seemed to be the beginning of a new arc, but in 10 it's made clear that the next arc was going to be in Ryouzanpaku and Chougai's group wouldn't take part in it. Not to mention Kousanjou, who had just been introduced, left the group in the very first page of chapter 10.

I'm pretty sure Akaboshi wil be back in the middle in the next few weeks, since the ryouzanpaku arc chapters are to be ranked and Kousanjou appears again in chapter 11. If anything, last week has shown not everything is lost for Akaboshi - the author just needs to make some quality chapters to get the readers' attention and make his series last longer, and if the recent chapters aren't quality I don't know what else is. :P

Lilienthal is getting the cover for issue 42. Mago gets the cover for issue 43.

Plus, Inumaru isn't even about dogs is it? I thought it was about a baby or something.

Inu translates to dog. I think there was some confusion (rightfully) as Lilienthal was labeled "inu" (meaning dog) which could reasonably be taken as a nickname for Inumaru.

Ah well that makes sense. I see where the confusion would come in. And this will probably mean more of this same kind of confusion in the future...lol

Incidently, the first kanji in Inumaru's name is the Inu from dog. 犬丸. But The title is a pun so it's all in hiragana.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

bad news for Ane Doki this week.

Kagijin is pretty much a given to be cut. I really don't understand all the hate it gets on this thread. It's entertaining enough for me to keep reading every week.

I really hope Medaka Doesn't get cut. I would much rather have Kagijin go rather than Medaka.

If a series isn't popular, it gets axed. And the wsj sorts the series according to the results of popularity polls 8 chapters ago (read Bakuman for more info). So the series at the back of the mag are the least voted, and thus the most likely to be axed.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Basically as it stood in the last round, To-Love was put out of it's misery after all the crap tied to it and D.Gray left for JumpSQ. Therefore, at this point the blandness that is Kagijin is easily open to be chopped off.

Oh and while Naruto claimed that it's 10th anniversary was a few issues back, issue 43 is the exact 10th...and somehow I sort of hope that Mago gets it instead if not the next issue considering that...well, Naruto for once deserves it's anniversary on the exact issue like OP did. (that's strange, I'm actually wanting a Naruto cover for once)
