Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

This is entirely too premature, but I'm really looking forward to Asou's new series. Just think about this for a moment...Asou is returning to WSJ on the heels of a mildly successful run with YuushaGaku, and the first impression he gives us of his new series is a boy brushing his teeth.

That kind of absurdity is oddly appealing to me.
I've been looking forward to Asou's return as well. After the disappointment of Rilienthal (how can a talking dog not be weird?) I need something like this. Whenever Jump premiers a new series that doesn't fit the Dragonball mold it's a big event.

Ane Dokii is very low this week. Plus, I'm surprised that Hokenshitsu didn't drop bottom 5, yet. Maybe, it'll bit sticking around for a while, also I think Hokenshitsu deserve to get another colour page.

Hokenshitsu is doing quite well and I'm sad to see ane doki in the botom. Lilienthal and Medaka seem hopeless to me they must be the next ones to be axed althoug it will probably take a litle time before that.

Ugh. Anedoki is last? The editors must be pulling their hairs out. At this point it's obvious that Lilienthal is destined to be the next permanent bottom dweller... or maybe it's going to be like Akaboshi: never gets last place, but rarely leaves the bottom either. Either way, it's screwed.

Kagijin's end was anything but a surprise. What does surprise me is that Medaka managed to improve a little... can't say it makes me happy.

Lilienthal will be the next cut and the other will be medaka or anedoki.

Kagijin is gone as expected.
Lilienthal is pretty much done i guess, unless something happens.
Medaka is higher than normal. thats a bit of a surprise.
Ane is last but it doesn't really mean much does it? its still pretty safe unless it does this next week too.
and hokenshitsu is still not in the bottom. good job!

Rilienthal will certainly be the next cut, possibly Medaka too. A lot depends on when the next cuts are. They chose an odd time to add new series, the last few years new series came in December, so I'm not sure if they will wait as long as usual between debuts. It would not surprise me to see two more new series added by early January this year. Shinigami could wtill drop but it is an encouraging start. Shame that I have no desire whatsoever to read it.

Don't expect Ane to be axed unless a highly successful ecchi/romantic series debuts in the meantime. If it keeps bottoming out, a CP-fest is much more likely than a cut.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Oh yeah...forgot to say this:
It seems that this year there'll be once again 53 issues in JUMP's year 2009. Usually there are just 52 issues a year but sometimes (I think only 2 times or so in the last 20 years) there had been 53 issues.

The reason I know this is due to some preview from JUMP #49, it was One Piece related and said that in JUMP #53 there'll be a special chapter of One Piece called "Chapter 0" which will be linked to the current events of 10th movie "Strong World"... [Don't wanna go into too much detail here, but yeah. That's about it]

Edit:
Here's the preview pic

2004 had 53 issues too. Muhyo debuted in that issue. I hope a new series started in this years extra issue as well.

Oda's really trying hard to promote this movie isn't he?
the volume 0, chapter 0 (they are both different ones right? unless chapter 0 is going to be part of volume 0)

also with the olympic gold medalist starring as a seiyu, I wonder how much money they spent on this.

Medaka was close to escaping again. Maybe next week. I wonder if Hokenshitsu is hovering above the bottom 5 just like last week. It really could end up living longer if it manages to sit in the middle.

Sket Dance falls back down after a good week. I really wish someone could translate the recent chapters.

Ane Doki seems to have come crashing down after some good weeks in the middle.

2 straight weeks in the bottom for Lilienthal. Its debut chapters have more or less bombed. It will be interesting if it manages to pick up or not but I'm having my doubts.

Kagijin...well we all knew that was coming. No surprises there.

*Doesn't care about new series*

Is Chapter 0 the same thing as Volume 0 that is going to be given in the cinemas?

Probably, though it may just be a whole different release that is connected to the movie

the volume 0, chapter 0 (they are both different ones right? unless chapter 0 is going to be part of volume 0
The anime is also going to have a series of upcoming "filler" (sorta?) episodes that will be connected to the movie, so you're right, they are really spending a lot of effort on this movie.

As for the TOC, it seems Medaka is progressing and it doesn't look like it will end soon so there probably won't be a new series for a while, probably near Decemeber or leading into the new year like Kaiten said.

The way it looks is if there is if only one other series has to go it will be Rilienthal. I feel like there will be one more new series this year, probably in issue 53 or issue 1. After that it will be later in the winter, after the double issues but earlier then last year. Late January, early February instead of early March.

Like Kaiten said earlier, chapter 2 of Rilienthal was a big improvement of the first. As it continues to drop my hope dwindles for this series. Maybe this series was better for a more girl audience magazine. Ane-Doki will be just fine, I see this as a bad week and not as a trend for future results. Medaka could have been worse and it will be depending of how people react to the last arc, which I think they will frown upon.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

oh yeah, i just remembered.
What's going to happen to Waji?
everyone believes its ToC is a hoax by the editors, yet its still going on and doing better than most new series. i guess its actually doing well?
if it really is doing bad, I wonder which is doing better, Rilienthal or Waji?

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

I have not seen anything that leads me to believe Waji is being "pimped" or a "hoax". It's not like Poseidon and Penguin which were top five every week. Unless it suddenly drops to the bottom five I see no reason to continue that conversation. That conversation was just some people hoping Waji was secretly doing poorly so that it would be canceled instead of Akaboshi.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Well, Rilinethal is screwed and probably Ane Doki too....Medaka isn't in great shape either. 53 issues sounds cool. Hopefully a new series that doesn't sound halfway retarded will debut. (Yes, I'm judging Nekowappa before even reading it or its oneshot, just sounds stupid)

I would prefer a oneshot that was actually good (like Monsters) or one that looks interesting (like Crimson King). Maybe the second series will be decent or maybe Mekowappa will surprise me but I won't hold my breath.
