Kakuriyo Monogatari is normal series, not mini-series.

It is confirmed that Terra Formars has surpassed printing 3,940,000 copies.

Yeah, but it is currently a second best selling series in Young Jump (I think). So, the popularity wise, Terra Formars can be considered the pinnacle for Young Jump.

Aren't Terra Formars and Real the pinnacle for Young Jump?

Well, this really depends on priorities of different people. If you mean by sales, then yes, I think Terra ForMars and REAL are actually selling the most now.

When I take all ongoing manga from Young Jump which I read then for me REAL and Innocent are very good story-wise, character wise and they offer very solidly structured psychological and philosophical take on various themes and since I enjoy manga like these the most, I consider these two to be best out of current Young Jump line-up. Terra ForMars is a special case where something is completely aware of its own silliness and it plays with it cleverly creating situations which are both silly and manly or epic at the same time. It uses basics of pseudo-science and it plays them straight while being completely aware how ridiculous that is. Highly octane story with nice action which throws little jokes even in very dire situations. Terra ForMars is not something I would call a masterpiece but it definitely is something I can say I consider it to be very well made. It's a nice enjoyable breather between reading REAL and Innocent (for an example). Just fast, gory, manly fun. Actually, it does look like Gantz done right. Gantz had interesting premise and passable mystery building at its start but was gradually buried in its own clumsiness. Its attempts at psychological analyses of a person and a society were very weak, pace was killed by vast amounts of reaction faces or characters just moping or pitying themselves and action was kind of ruined to some extent by huge breasts… I'm not saying trying to achieve some social commentary is bad, quite opposite, I enjoy psychological and/or philosophical stories the most but these very approaches to create a "mature" story just didn't work in Gantz (for me, needless to say). Where Gantz tried to be serious, Terra ForMars offers the right amount of self-irony. And it works.

I was speaking purely of quality with my idea of the pinnacle, seeing as that's... well, it's how I judge things, innit. Terra Formars doesn't appeal to me(EDIT: Though yes, it is SUPER well made), so I don't hold it up with Kingdom, Beshari and 81 Diver. Real is a weird area because I haven't actually gotten around to reading it yet. Must correct that. I can see that being as good as those three just on the creator's strength.

81 Diver is fun because of how absurdly not serious yet completely serious it is. Half the time it's like... Characters that are astounded at how absurd things have gotten and other times when it's like-or-death serious, often orienting around a very absurd situation.

Once I finish a couple other things I'm gonna get back to translating that. I can do it at a pretty fast rate because there's not all that much text.

Man how I've dreamed of reading more than the first two chapters of Gurashi! The stuff that's been scanlated was so good.
