Question What is your favorite flashback?

Big Mom 's flashback started today and I saw many people saying that they don't like how Oda show us the past.

So I decided to create a thread about all the flashbacks that had more than one chapter and which one is considered the best.

Share with us which flashback do you like the most, and yor reasons (a character, a quote or a moment)

My favorite is Franky's flashback. Tom is so awesome, and he is the kind of character that I like: one that stands by his principles and is proud of his deeds. My favorite scene is when he punches Franky, telling him to be proud of his creation, even if it turned to be used fro bad puroposes.

My fav is the childhood flash back. It gives depth to the story and really develops the manga into a more adult setting. It also prepares the reader for the transition into the new world. Foreshadowed Garp the Hero marine getting beaten by Dandan. Also showed how much love and emotion was inside of Luffy. Explained Luffys fighting style and his over all durability. Gives depth to his sence of humor and his commradery amoungst his crew. That day he followed ace into the jungle/woods was how we all knew as readers he was going to go get Sanji. Plus seeing the FPK be treated like a lil Bro was priceless. Let's not forget the cup exchange....epic!

The best part of this flashback was when ACE told Luffy to stop crying and he held it. PRICELESS PANEL!!!!!

I agree with TrueRaiKage that the childhood flashback was the best, and it was the foundation for the Dadan/Garp scene which is one of the most emotional parts in the series imo.

I also like the small flashbacks during Whitebeards death in ch 576. I don't know if it's fair to consider these compared to the others in the poll... but in terms of impact WB's were heavy.

About the flashback, yes, this is one of the most important flashback to date, as it show much more than the yourger versions of Luffy and Ace, and the introduction of Sabo, bit shows also how heavy is the burden of been relate to Pirate King.

I like many of the small flasbacks, included the chapter zero. I think they are important to the plot, even if only to say how Luffy is so like Roger. I will include it (ch.0), the new Sanji escape and the a "other" option in the pool.

I would honestly say OP has generally good flashbacks. My favorite one myself is the Robin/Ohara flashback. Not only did it help show why Robin turned out the way she did (Not trusting and such), but it also gave us major hints at one of OP's biggest mysteries in the Void Century. Overall, I just felt this flashback was the most memorable to me, but like I said almost all the flashbacks have been pretty solid. My favorite moment in a flashback would probably be the Rumbar Pirates last song, just had crazy feels (though they all do lol).

I thibk that the flashbacks tgat we saw on the Water Seven/Ennies Loby arc were the most important plotwise to this moment, as they introduced/developed conceipts about ancient weapons, poneglyph, and Roger related people.

Aftee the time skip, I would say that the one about Fisher Tiger and Queen Otohime were the most important and tge best. Their paralels with MLK and Malcom X, the introduction of Shirahoshi as a Ancient Weapon and the Otohime's liat will have a huge impact.

It might just be because I caught up with the manga at punk hazard but the doflamingo flashback within a flashback was my favorite. There was so much mystery built up around his character especially after the marine ford arc. Oda kept giving us hints about doffy and was revealing so many important plot points in those chapters even though dressrosa seemed like a detour at first. I really wanted to know what made doffy the man he was, and the truth seemed way too heavy for a shonen. I loved the art in those chapters, the design of young doflamingo and his crew. The timing was perfect, young doffy sleeping with nightmares of his past and waking up to down a bottle of alcohol. Oda did a double fake, we thought doffy was irredeemable, then suddenly you feel for bad him, and then Cora reveals his true nature and you see even as kid he was menacing and fearless. Of course I loved the law and corazon story, and after he kills his brother I lost all respect but that was my personal favorite

Chopper's flashback.

I don't know if i like it that much because Drum was so tiresome to raise above anything or just because it is so good, but the most important message to me here is how humans behave against something that they do not know, and how a human full of dreams despite being on the corner of society, took that little creature to keep his vow and dream to himself and ended accepting the creature as a son; plus the wonderful character that is Kureha, passed to be an observer and messenger in order for Chopper to realize in what world the Hito Hito no Mi put it into.

Drum was made for keep alive that dream, boring in plenty of times, but still worth reading when you realize that sentiment.

Pretty much agree with Aizen. Robin's flashback was pretty darn incredible story-telling, and overall felt like the most important one in terms of story, history world-building (with the introduction of Poneglyphs, the Void Century etc). It gave great depth to Robin's character, not to mention was all kinds of emotional (that Jaguar D. Saul scene, it gives me goosebumps just to think about it). So objectively, overall I'd say it's the best one.

However, as I've said in many other threads (like the OP awards), Brook's flashback is probably my favorite. Mostly because of that final performance scene which is one of my (if not the) favorite scene in the whole manga. But I also really enjoyed the short but sweet retelling of his and his old crew's adventures and how they met Laboon, etc. Maybe it's just the musician in me, but it totally struck all the right chords to me. Also, from his first entrance Brook has been one of my constant favorite characters, so there's that.

It's worth mentioning that I truly think flashbacks are one of the things Oda does best. Many people in the discussion threads seem to get a bit ticked off as soon as we see the beginning of a flashback, but personally I can't think of a single one I didn't find good. It's where Oda really gets to add the emotional values and impact to current events, and he does it flawlessly every time.

So really, picking one flashback out of all the incredible ones... it can change from day to day. But I'll have to be honest with myself in the end and vote for Robin/Ohara.

Chopper has my favorite flashback, just him being a reindeer with a blue nose & looked down upon. Only to find Dr. Hiruluk & learning alot, pouring his self into studies, all diseases can be cured & the beautiful cherry blossoms make me tear up often. How Hiruluk pushed him away & how Chopper couldn't understand gets me too, but he had the courage to risk his life to save Dr. Hiruluk. Also, how Dr. Kureha took him in after Hiruluk's passing, & once again those cherry blossoms that I believe weren't in season. Beautiful

I also really like Law's flashback because of him & Rocinante, it's very sad though (Franky's is nice too). Chopper's is my favorite though & the flashback I don't mind rewatching a bunch of times

Oh, actually I do like Brook's flashback as well. It went from fun to sad and tragic, with a happy ending in him meeting the Straw Hats.

Robin's was good, but it felt too long.

There are some great options too chose from. I think we should try ranking them rather than picking just 1. Seems like a waste of really good flashback materials.
1. Luffys childhood ...just damn good writing. You cry luffy cries Dandan cries...I bet Oda cried.
2. LABOON....still gets you teary eyed...HE IS STILL COMING LABOON
3. Ohara.....i hope robin uses her df n some haki n chokes each viceadmiral from that day in their sleep
4. The death of red leg zeff.....a true mf pirate....grow a pair sanji n fast
5. Law....great writing great character development great laughs.

I like all Flashbacks simply because they seem to give very important pieces of information. More so than the OP in the present, but I may be wrong. Flashbacks allow us to understand characters a lot better than we otherwise may not. Current flashback has given insight into the WG, CPO, Big Mom's character. Flashbacks are always exciting.

Luffy, Sabo and Ace... This to me was the best flashback. Just thinking about it makes me want to cry.

I am a firm believer of brotherhood, and their expression of it makes me extremely invested in their stories.

All flashbacks are good... Oda goes through a lot of effort in building a history for a character even if he's a minor one... My favorite would be Robin's flashback followed by Ace's during the war...

Chopper flashback is the only time one piece has ever made me cry. The Sakura ending was beautiful. Rest weren't as emotionally powerful imho.

Hmm, theres so many flashback in op.. but my favourite will be brook. How he meet laboon, going adventure with rumbar pirates, his captain die, be the stand in captain of rumbar, and meet their end at florian triangle.. Spend 1 year looking for his body in the thick fog to find his body only to be revived in his afro skeleton lol. And how he spent those lonely years for freaking 50 years!! at the florian triangle. Only to meet with more trouble when his shadow was stolen by moria. His fight with ryuma zombie just to be defeat and run clingling to his life while protecting his afro. Its all so tragic.... oda really have talent to do tragic story lol..

and the best i think law and doflamingo flashback.. the only survivor of white city, barely survive crossing the border under pile of corpes.. wtf, i cant imagine that scene if it will be make into live action!! and doflamingo the exile tenryubito, make him the sadist killer and swear to destroy the tenryubito after that.

And robin flashback is really good too. the only survivor of ohara. Spent her live running from people,bounty hunter, marine and pirates for 20 years on the run! i cant imagine that man.. such a harsh life. Most of op character have really bad, tragic, harsh life.. still zorro flashback is pretty short considering he is the first mate of the crew maybe we will learn more of his live before his training swordmanship at east blue..

but my favourite will always be brook. The story.. is really nice and well executed.
