That was dumb. But it also gave Mavis what she believes to be the way to defeat Zeref.
Well, now that Mavis is on her way back to the guild, it seems her plan will soon be discovered, and I for one am curious as hell to find out what inspiration Mavis could have possibly taken from that scene. Until then, does anyone have any idea what her strategy could be?
