He's not that old, Akimoto is only 57 :)
57? wow, he must have started Kochi pretty early. is it like his first manga or something? (like Oda)
well, he might retire once he become 60 to 65.

He started it on 1976 when he was 24 years old and yes, it was his first manga. Although, he also made a one shot on 1976. I don't know which came first.

lol. Life expectancy for Japanese men is 78, third highest in the world! U.S. is 75. Kochikame could go on another 21 years :p
Dang, that's what I get for listening to my retarded high school teachers.

But I still think i'll live to see the end....I hope :s

If you meet some sort of horrific accident or contract some sort of rare disease in the next 25 years, you might miss out ;) Otherwise expect to see the end before your 40.

There are some mangas that seem to make progress like crazy and yet others that seem to make no progress at all...

D.Gray-man seemed like it was making progress but then in the last chapter it turns out everyone can just be brought back to life. When one Noah dies the memories are reborn in someone else.

Berserk... goes without saying. In 20 years it still doesn't look like it's closing in on anything. The last chapter gave some hint that maybe now it's POSSIBLE to fight the God Hands and maybe they're getting close to the elf place they were heading toward. And the current hiatus ends in I think 2 weeks.

One Piece on the other hand DOES make progress since now they're finally at the half way point, there are certain people who have been talked about that show up over time, mysteries are uncovered, etc.

Naruto it's been stated is almost done. The progress with that is more or less just when more enemies are defeated.

Kochikame started in 1976. The next oldest manga in Jump is One Piece which started in 1997... And it's been said he doesn't ever plan to end it...

FMA is ending soon. That, too didn't seem to make "clear progress" for a while. Though they did start to uncover mysteries and just recently started to defeat the Homunculi.

Gantz is in the "Final Phase" when it restarts in a month or so. So... It's what... 2/3 done... I forget which was the previous phase. I checked, it's 2. So 1/3, which could be longer, shorter... or whatever. So far it's been about 300 chapters so at least another 2 years.

Bleach, who knows. It could end with Aizen or it could keep going after that somehow or other.

A few more that will run forever:

JoJo's is still running, Steel Ball Run in Ultra Jump is the latest incarnation. Technically it is a separate series but it's still officially part of the JoJo's franchise. The Fist of the North Star and St. Seiya franchises are still going. Cooking Papa has been running uninterrupted in Weekly Morning since 1984. Oishinbo began in Big Comic Spirits the same year. Hajime no Ippo has been in Magazine since 1989. Conan started in 1994. Major, also in Shonen Sunday, started earlier the same year. Aa! Megami-sama has been running in Afternoon since 1988. Baki has been in Champion, in one incarnation or another, since 1991. Every magazine seems to have that one series that will never end. Some series that never end switch to other publishers to survive. Nothing can touch Kochikame for longevity or popularity, of course.

but he also said he plan to continue the series a "little" longer.

Didn't read Inuyasha or Eyeshield 21? To Love Ru or Neuro? Nothing that had ended before you even started it? Personally I ended up dropping Inuyasha and Eyeshield right before they ended, I was so frustrated by the final arcs.

D.gray man - Its really hard to tell until I read ch.187 coz I saw a big change in its plot. Probably its trying to catch up a bit to please the readers owning to its hiatus. Seeing its moving on to next stage which seems to be another half of whole story plus Hoshino has already stated she "had" no intention to end it atm, I guess it would have at least 3 years to go with a monthly issue.

Gintama - It has a wide diversity of elements n it can develop what the mangaka wants. I guess as long as the mangaka is still keen to draw,Gintama can still go on for another 5 years, especially its selling per volume is quite high.

Fullmetalchemist - The big arc has started n it seems it will be ending within one year.

Claymore - I guess it still has lots of things to tell

Really? Cause to me it looks like it's nearing the end.

I mean the Homunculi are being killed off and the battle with Father is drawing near.
:o i no and it's sad. i don't want it to end. tell her to pull a kubo and stretch the series. may heart cannot handle such a dilemma.

Well its about damn time. I like Conan and all but its too episodic for its length imo.

You should be glad Arakawa sensei didn't pull of a Kubo. I don't want a great series, successful and acclaimed turn into successful but pretty much shitty.

Hopefully BLEACH will not last ten years. Unless kubo slow down the pace even more, wich gives me nigthmares.

Most likely Bleach will last 10+ years. Kubo has stated that he hasn't thought about the whole plot yet, so there's a high chance it will last even longer.

------------------------- (went to wikipedia)----------------------------------------
It started in 2001, so it has 8 years already. Now that I know that I'm almost certain that will last more than 10 years.

There's always hope though, Kubo may actually come up with something as good as Soul Ssociety arc. He actually added some comedy in the last chapter, it's nice he's trying old, good stuff again.

EDIT: I'm looking forward for Amano Akira (Reborn's Mangaka) to draw Naruto. Will they be drawing him in color? or black and white? I'd love to see them in color lol. I also look forward for Oda and Tite's.
He has not tougth of the whole plot because Bleach was going to end after the Soul Society arc bu due to it's huge popularity the editors conviced kubo to continue Bleach. (Can't remeber the source of info but will give as soon as I remember)

Wich explains why Ichigo became so strong in a short time and then this whole mistake about power levels. And also how the pace changed after that. Kubo is probably draging this until he thinks of a good ending for all the unsolved issues.

It would be pretty amazing if One Piece had a 20th anniversary, probably won't happen, but imagine if it did, then again, we'll be old and lose interest by then.

lols, why woudn't it have a 20th year Aniversery? It will probably go for another 10+ years, i don't want it to, i would prefer 4-6 years but it'll probably get a 20th Aniversery.

Exactly. We don't know how long that dragging will be, and it's not like he doesn't enjoy being serialized, plus there are tons of unsolved stuff in the manga. I can see 2 more years of Bleach in the future.

About One Piece, lol. They were halfway of Big Blue (is that how the ocean is called?) BEFORE the current arc started, lmao. So yeah, I can see at the very least 4 more years of One Piece.
