madara himself said that the older son of the rikkudo sennin inherited his father's "eyes" which i take to mean he inherited the rinningan, then through thinning of the bloodline the sharingan mutated from it.
but then when later talking about the jubi a picture of it was shown with a large sharingan with 9 tomoe. this would mean that the jubi had it first but that doesn't fit into with what he said ealier. if it was from the jubi why did the elder son apear to have a rinningan dojutsu instead of a sharingan.
then there's kakashi's explanation which can be disregarded.
i was wondering if anyone had thought of any clearer theories about its origin.
