Movies Who Watches the Watchmen

[Coup]

As some of you may know by now the highly praised graphic novel Watchmen is being made into a movie to be directed by Zack Synder(300, Dawn of Dead). For those of you that have read the book, what are your feelings/thoughts on how the movie will be portrayed/received?

So far I'm very interested to see how loyal Zack Snyder is going to be to the graphic novel, as many of the situations that Watchmen cover are very controversial and may be unable to be adapted into movie form. We'll just have to see, but so far I'm very hopeful.

I'm very interested in it since I've read it, I really hope they do it perfect or at least great. I heard they're trying for it to be a 3 hour movie and I hope so, so they don't leave stuff out that I definitely want to see. And ugh, I don't want to wait almost a year for it to come out! March 2009!

shouldn't this thread be in the comics section?

i'm a little concerned about the fact that he won't be able to include a lot of the back story and the black freighter parallels. he intends to release that stuff on another dvd, but i don't think a lot of the people who see it in theaters will bother with that release. plus, it would be difficult for viewers of that material to draw it together with specific scenes of a movie that will not be easily accessible to them since it will still be in theaters at that point. if he adds all that together into a director's cut on the dvd box set, i'm sure that version will be incredibly faithful to moore's vision. of course, moore will always be right to say that the story is best expressed in its original form. at the same time that a lot of viewers will limit their exposure to the movie, i know a lot of people who had never heard of the comic and are reintroducing themselves to graphic novels. this is because of an interest in moore's work thanks to watchmen and the heavy amount of influence the killing joke had on the joker's personality in the dark knight. that alone is enough to make me happy about this movie being made. that being said, i can't wait to see the incredible visuals brought to life.

p.s. i hardly recognized crudup in the trailer.

Well I figured the black freighter part wouldn't be put in just because it'd make the movie at least like an hour longer. Though I didn't know before that he'd release it on another dvd, that'll be cool at least if true.

Well I finished reading the novel awhile ago, but I still went on to proof read certain things throughout it and will continue too till the movie comes. As for my thoughts on it, what I can say, its great material, glad I was exposed to it. I had to keep reminding myself that it was 1985.

As for the movie, though details are a bit sketchy and only judging by one trailer, I still have the same excitement for it as I did when I first saw it. Visuals look like they will not to be the let down of the movie, for sure. Since its being made into a movie I would think they would exclude the Black Freighter, to appeal more to general audiences(for those who haven't read/know of the novel). Also, I am not concerned by the slow-mo 'action' scenes at all since the dialog is what depicts the novel most.

If I was addressing the comic only, yeah it would have been.

I just hope that they don't destroy this movie like they did with the rest of the comic adaptations of Moore's work. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was awful, and V for Vendetta, well, it wasn't a travesty but it could've been better.

Well this movie mite never come out

A Los Angeles federal judge has set a Jan. 6, 2009, trial date for 20th Century Fox's lawsuit over Warner Brothers' right to make a film based on the graphic novel Watchmen, Variety reported.

Judge Gary Allen Feess set the date during a meeting between attorneys, setting the stage for discovery and deposition proceedings during the rest of this year.

Warner has not backed off March 6 as the opening for Watchmen, directed by Zack Snyder and starring Patrick Wilson and Jackie Earle Haley.

Two weeks ago, Feess denied Warner's motion to dismiss the suit, which alleges that Fox retained distribution rights to the graphic novel through a 1991 claim.

Warner Bros. and Twentieth Century Fox have resolved their dispute regarding the rights to the upcoming motion picture Watchmen in a confidential settlement. Warner Bros acknowledges that Fox acted in good faith in bringing its claims, which were asserted prior to the start of principal photography. Fox acknowledges that Warner Bros. acted in good faith in defending against those claims Warner Bros. and Fox, like all Watchmen fans, look forward with great anticipation to this film's March 6 release in theatres.
