General question here about manwah... and maybe there’s no answer. Why are things like Shinwonryu translated in ToG (and it seems other manwah also translate techniques too) but in Shonen manga usually it’s not translated (jutsu, Rasengan, Senbon Zakura).

I’m not complaining... as awesome as Rasengan sounds, I often wondered if it sounded as special to a Japanese. While I was reading Naruto I felt like it added some culture to it. Now in ToG everything is translated, except for names... well at least when it’s translated from the Kanji (I don’t know the Korean term) everything but proper names seems to be completely translated into English. Names are somewhat phonetically left intact.

I’m pretty new to manwah so I don’t know if this is the norm.

Ultimately you'd have to ask the translators but I have this theory as to why they do this:

Ha Jinsung Style Piercing Technique: Crimson Flame =Ha Jinsung-lyu Gongpahsool: Jeoghwa
Dragon's Breath =Samryong Yugryong
Karaka Style Shinsoo Manipulation Technique: World of Darkness - Black Goral's Horn Whip =Geom-eun San-Yang-ui Ppul Ghaejjig
Fifth Shadow: September Shadow=Daseos-buhnjjae Geu'rimja: Goo'wol'young

Notice the difference with Japanase? English speakers can pronounce Japanese while only kinda butchering it. Korean in turn I have trouble believing can be spoken by humans and reading that makes me wonder if they 3 tongues and a couple potatoes between them. Korean does not have the benefit of sounding awesome like japanese. With few exceptions to non korean speakers the english translations will be pronounceable and we can remember. If someone wrote in a post that says "geon-eun san-yang- ui ppul ghaejjig" I'd be inclined to thinking they had a seizure mid post rather than coming even somewhat close to remembering it's a karaka technique. A few techniques like redan or shinwonryu survive BUT I would argue that is because they kinda sound like japanese and also writing redan or shinwonryu is easier and faster than lightning pill or shinso black hole sphere. Shinwonryu also makes sense because SIU remains ambiguous as to what that actually means or translates to so that way we avoid a wrong translation. The wikia lists five other plausible translations...

Nice that’s exactly what I wanted to know. Seems like Korean is closer to Chinese, which can also be hard to write phonetically. I definitely agree with translating it completely
