Theory Why did'nt Itachi kill Orochimaru?

After reading the latest chapter about itachi wanting to protect his brother and the village i started to wonder why itachi did'nt kill Orochimaru when he had the chance? Orochimaru goal was to get revenge on konoha and to get the sharingan,so why did'nt itachi kill him when he had the chance?Would'nt killing Orochimaru prevent some of the threats konoha has to deal with and at the same time saving sasuke?
