I just finished reading the latest Naruto manga release and then I shifted over here to check out the latest postings (and of course to see if the new chapter was out). And what struck me once again was the overload of people examining the boards over there every minute of every day when this D. Gray Man forum is lucky to see ten people checking it out at any given time. Why is that? This isn't meant to be a gripe post, as my enjoyment of a manga isn't based on how many other people read it. I'm legitimately confused over what factor prevents D. Gray Man from working its way to the notoriety of the current top three most widely recognized shonen manga (One Piece, Naruto and Bleach).
Is it the art? Is it that the plot or the characters personalities are too mature for a shonen manga? Is the imagery too dark for most people? Is it because the manga volumes have only just started showing up in the US and most people havent caught wind of it yet? Not enough ninjas, well-endowed women or combinations of both?
Anyway, I just wanted to get some feedback on what other people might think. One of the few benefits of less crowded forums is that there is less chance of running into aggressive fans and forums trolls. To date, I have yet to see one here. So please feel free to make a comment or argue otherwise.
